While creating backups in a Hyper-V environment, what are the permissions are not necessary for on-host backups, if used?

While creating backups in a Hyper-V environment, you need several permissions to be able to properly snapshot and process a VM. What are the permissions are not necessary for on-host backups, if used?Full Access permission on the targetfolder and share access given.

Immutability flag for copy to S3-compatible (Wasabi) is much longer than what is set in the Repository

I’ve come across this twice now, and I’m curious if any of you have seen it. I have a relatively new client that we setup backups for with a copy job to run to a Wasabi bucket. I have set the repo for 30 days of immutability. I’m having issues with one of the VM’s being backed up and decided to just blow it away. Backups are fine, but the copy job has failed on this VM for a couple of months (the newest restore point is from the end of November) due to an odd error when Application Aware Processing is enabled. Since AAP isn’t really needed for this VM, my plan was to work around this error and move this VM to a separate backup and copy job where AAP is not enabled but moving to the new job failed. So I tried to delete the data, and that also failed. I get the error that the data is immutable until October. What am I missing here?

Protect Veeam AUdit Logs with NetApp ONTAP Snaplock WORM Technology

Protecting your Veeam Data Platform Audit Logs is another way keep your security sensitive logs safe. Using NetApp ONTAP SnapLock Write One Read Many (WORM) technology can protect you from bad actors attempting to delete your audit logs. Please make sure the NetApp ONTAP controller has a SnapLock license. The first thing you have to do is create a NetApp FlexVol (volume). I logged into NetApp ONTAP System Manager and from the main menu navigated to “Storage=>Volumes=>+Add” to get to the volume screen below (Figure 1). I filled in the fields and clicked on “More Options”(Figure 2) to display more volume options. If you enable the SnapLock option for the first time, you will be instructed to “Initialize the SnapLock compliance clock” which is required (Figure 3). Deployment Scenario - Simple and Advanced

Hello, I would like to know what is the best design for Simple and Advanced.For Simple, I have 1 server with the veeam backup, proxy and storage. For Advanced, I have compute as veeam backup and a third party storage. if customer have 16tb source backup, (1) what will be the best design to position, have a Simple to lower the cost or position a Advanced Deploy since date is 16tb?(2) For Simple, what will be the basis to position the Simple Deployment? atleast 5tb and 10 jobs? or how many jobs or source data, so we can consider that as Simple?(3)For Advanced as well, how many jobs or source data? Error: Failed to call RPC function 'FclsExists': The user name or password is incorrect, Hyper-V

Veeam 12.1 Community Edition running on Windows Server 2022 Standard.The host is Hyper-V. The repository is on a QNap. This is a new installation. I’m getting the following error when backing up a VM:Error: Failed to call RPC function 'FclsExists': The user name or password is incorrect The passwords for the repository and Hyper-V host are both confirmed good, as I was able to add, remove, and add them, again, to Veeam. Fun Friday: What made you fall in love with tech?

Afternoon everyone! Happy Friday, going for a valentines day theme today as it’s only a few days away now (REMINDER IF YOU NEED TO BUY A CARD OR PRESENT STILL!!!). So, you’re working in the technology world, you may hate it at times, but there’s a fine line between love and hate. (Except for you printers, I hate you). What was the first moment of pure joy/love you had working with tech? Or worded another way, what was your first memorable moment in tech that you found impressive/amazing? However you word it, tech has had a profound impact on our lives globally, what ignited the spark? I was writing in BASIC at a young age, and I remember the first time I started working with 3D objects/models. I think I was using DirectX 7 or 8, and I remember having some stock assets, making a terrain, creating a camera that would follow an object and programming in movement controls to the object. How to Backup Server from Hetzner via VBR

Hello,I have a problem with configuring the Backup Job.We have one server hosted on Hetzner and I need to backup it just once and restore it.I don’t know what could be the prerequisites for this, do I need to expose our VBR ports to the Hetzner?Currently I manage to create protection group, added Hetzner server without any problems, rescaning is working, but when I try to create a backup job using Veeam agent it fails with the following error message:3/4/2024 14:03:40 :: Failed to send backup job configuration to X Error: Failed to update backup job Managed by agent job name: Agent Backup Policy 3.Invalid job configuration.Connection problems.Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.Failed to establish connection: no valid IP addresses were found.A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond VBR IP Addres:10005

MUTEX!!!

Hi folks,Can someone explain to me “the programming dummy” this word mutex? Is it just a log shock and awe term, i.e. someone like Geoff sees something “mutex” in the logs and thinks back to Grade 10 Math and makes a quick retreat? 😁Recently I have seen this word in different logs and wanted to double check with the pros before I press the terrifying search button on google. (I say that because I had a red mark on my face and thought I should google, it basically told me all the horrible things that it could be, until the unsponsored answer way at the bottom had a nothing to worry about explanation)!!

Perform full restoration test from Object storage (assume total loss)

Hi Team,I have a site that uses Wasabi object storage for both archiving and have “copy backups to object storage as soon as they are created” checked in the SOBR. This has been ticking away for some months now doing what I’d expect it to be doing. Now I need to test a full scale recovery from this environment, assuming we have a total loss of all on premises infrastructure, including the VBR server. I have spun up a new VM in our DR environment and installed VBR. My next step was to connect to the object storage bucket and attempt to recover VMs from this. But when I attempt to connect I get a warning “Selected object storage repository is already managed by another backup server. If you continue, all jobs currently using this repository will fail. Proceed?” I don't want the current jobs to fail, as this is only a test. Can I still connect to this repository and only read the objects without modifying it? Or can it be mounted in read only? Or is there another way I should be doing thi

Restoring SharePoint Folder Permissions

Are SharePoint permissions backed up using Veeam for Microsoft 365? Scenario: A group with inherited permissions is removed from a SharePoint folder but later found to be required.If we restore the folder, will it restore the security groups/permissions associated with that folder at the time of backup?

Question about exit strategy from immutable backup

Hi all, I’m working to understand more about question in object. In specific I start from @regnor blog using StoreOnce. If I set an immutability ends in 3 years but a customer want to exit from this service after 2 years what are the correct ways to remove all backup data after export? I know good start is to have xx days (30?) for immutability but if customer wants GFS policy up to 3 years immutable how can I operate? I know this is a MSP based question for this I hope someone can help me.Thanks.
