Vsphere & VSAN 8, enjoy snapshot speed for backup

Hello,For those who missed the information, there is a new snapshot mode for VSAN in vsphere 8. It looks promising for speed specially on large scale infra with vsan, it will obvisously reduce the time needed for snapshot processing on the backup jobs.Scalable, High-Performance Native Snapshots in the vSAN Express Storage Architecture | VMwareCan’t wait to test it in production to compare real number from the field!If anyone already tested it, i will curious to have a feedback.

Seeking expert advise: about Veeam

Greetings everyone!I am very new to Veeam, did a few installs & backup/restore already with the software but still I’m way too far from understanding the full structure of the tool.Is Veeam a viable solution to backup vCenter Server Appliance? Currently the organization I joined recently has a nightly backup of the appliance. (doing a research about how Veeam can be a viable solution in long term, so I would greatly appreciate if someone can share their expertise on the matter, thank you!)

Error: Failed to perform authentication with the secondary password: the token is invalid

env:1、vbr11a、vspc6、backup server（win2022） with backup agent success。2、upgrade to vbr12、vspc7。3、backup server（2022） with bakcup agent failed。4、no Capacity/Archive tier，just back up to vbr local disk.5、Only two Servers（vbr + vspc）。

GFS by multiple jobs?

I studied about Veeam’s GFS, as I understand, it’ll consume a lot of disk space to work?  If I want to keep 31 daily, 4 weekly, 12 monthly, I’ll end up with 1+4+12 = 17 full copies disk space + 30 daily incrementials ?  What if I create 3 different jobs on the same VM, daily (30days), weekly (4 weeks), monthly (12 months)I’ll end up with:one daily full + 29 daily incrementalsone weekly full + 3 weekly incrementalsone monthly full + 11 monthly incrementals Total 3 full + 43 increments, should use much less space than build-in GFS?

Hard disk "incorrect function"

Friends,I have a backup scheduled to automatically run daily to a network shared folder on a windows 2019 server, which I access through a share as the local admin of that server.After executing this backup, the hd where this folder is located becomes available, showing the error stating that the folder is not accessible with the warning of "incorrect function".That server is a virtual machine and runs on hyper-v.This hd that is unavailable is mounted on this virtual machine (hyper-v).For me to solve this problem I need to turn off the virtual machine and also the host, when it starts it goes back to normal.Thanks,JJ

Hi ,1. How many WAN accelerators are needed for 4PB of data with 500Mbps bandwidth ? I have gone through the best practices as well.Didnt got a clear understanding.2. Can we use WAN accelerators during backup and recovery 1DC or just for replication purpose ? Thanks.

Got caught back up on community recaps last night (I was a couple weeks behind) but over the course of the past 8ish months, I’ve noticed that @Rick Vanover mentions breaking the rule, or not breaking the rule, or sorta breaking the rule but it’s okay. My question is, for those of us who haven’t been around since the community inception…What is “the rule”?

Failed to index guest file system. VSSControl - window server 2016 backup job

I have backup job on one of my VM windows server 2016 . I set up backup job and it show this warning and completed with an warning, 6/7/2023 2:04:27 AM :: Failed to index guest file system. VSSControl: Index failed Details: vss::CVeeamIndexingProvider::NetTryCompleteIndex. Failed to complete guest file system indexing in network mode. checked the  have the Enable Guest File System Indexing in the backup job configuration setting. can you help me solve this problem with suggstionthanks​​​​​​​

Morning Rant Linkedin "Hi Goff we noticed you are a Veeam Professional.... blah blah blah.."

Hi Folks,(I don’t want to be mean but… sales people can quite seriously perturb me. I don’t know if it is because I assume immediately that they think I am some kind of spaced out idiot, or perhaps that as Don Corleone said “nothing personal just business” i.e. they are mass sending messages using AS (Artificial Stupidity) to change the name etc. I am getting more and more of the following on Linkedin like this today  “Hi Goff (so much for AI.. at least it won’t be taking my job in the near future), we noticed that you are a Veeam Professional (what in the name of the Salisbury soccer team is a Veeam Professional?, is that some kind of new certification? have I overdosed on Veeam swag and now been permanently branded a VP (alas not Vice President). Then follows the ingenious sales pitch. “you might be interested in…...” The minute I see “you might be” there is macro in my amygdala that furiously injects the word NOT into the sentence. I have long since gotten used to everyone in North

Linux Helper Host

Hi Everyone,I need help with a trip down memory lane. When was the linux helper host introduced. If I am not completely confused I remember that you used to have to use a helper appliance that Veeam would install on Esx but then later introduced the Helper Host where you could simply use a Veeam host in your managed servers to help mount the linux file system. It has been a while and I could be off target with this  Was it one of the V11 updates? I will dig and see maybe between 10 and 11.

PostgreSQL Configuration Database on a Linux Host

Hi dear Veeam community, i’m wondering if it’s possible to migrate the configuration database to a PostgreSQL DB on a Ubuntu host?Can’t find anything about that.I’ve setup the db but i’m facing an error:  The port on the ubuntu is listening, credentials are correct.Does someone have a clue?Best regards :-)

Oracle ACFS

We can well backup Oracle databases sitting on ASM clusters using the RMAN plugin:Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN - Veeam Plug-ins for Enterprise Applications But there is more to ASM clusters. You might also have ACFS as an Oracle-homed cluster FS. It is not used for the database files themselves as these are located in the ASM itself. ACFS is rather meant to host supporting files around the databases throughout the cluster (general purpose files, shared database homes, administrative files, log files, trace and audit files, scripts, etc.).It appears to be necessary to backup those files in conjunction with an ASM/RAC clusters next to the pure DB using RMAN and the Veeam plugin as well. Dead-end #1:Most Oracle systems run on physical systems for the “unconventional” license requirements Oracle tries to apply. Therefore first idea to grab those files would be the Veeam Agent.Unfortunately, Veeam Agent does not support ASM clusters. At least not from an Oracle perspective: Oracle Backup -

Strange Warning "Failed to index guest file system. VSS Control: Index failed"

Hi there,Veeam B&R 12 is installed on a Windows 2022 Server, which is installed on VMWare ESXi 6.5 U3. From there I backup our produtvie Server, which is a VMWare ESXi 6.7 with a Windows Server 2016 and a Windows Server 2012 R2 (Exchange Server) installed on it. Everything works fine, exept the backup of the Windows 2012 R2 Server. It does backup, but I receive the Warning “Failed to index guest file system. VSS Control: Index failed". Is there any way to fix this, except disabling the file indexing?

Hi everyone,I want to share a little story with all of you, and also invite you to share yours!! I picked up my Alfred at VeeamOn 2023 in Miami, knowing that he will belong to my daughter.Sha fall in love since the instant moment she saw him (bye bye Mikey 🐭 )Now she always carry him around the house , an if allowed, goes with her to some activities out.For her is her new baby, and as a baby….yes! Backup across separate networks/domains

The company I work for has recently taken over another, with each having its own network, domain & Veeam B&R setup.  One side (A) is mostly broken from the backup side with B&R installed on an ancient server and the repository using the same storage as VMs which has quickly filled up.  A & B live in the same data center, connected through their own firewalls.  My first thought to fix this mess is to remove the broken B&R completely from A (remove from hosts etc) and use the working sides (B) B&R, utilising a Veeam proxy installed in A.  Any thoughts or suggestions?  Would the firewall only need to be opened between B&R in B and proxy in A?

Can a hardened Linux repository be used by more than on VEEAM server?

I’ve looked for an answer and can’t seem to find one … Can a hardened Linux repository be used by more than on VEEAM server? I’ve tried it an it is working I wondered if there are any limitations or concerns to be worried about? For example both servers running backups at the same time? I can see based on directory naming I will need to be careful with job names that they are unique. Thanks for your time …

Homelab: ESXi with Realtek card

SSL certificate authentication error due to mismatch in Veeam client versions

Dear Community,I’m running Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition 9.5 and replicating offsite to a Cloud vendor. I upgraded it to Version 12 to get bug & security fixed. Upon reaching version 12 I came to know that the Cloud vendor does not support version 12, they only support 11a.Now the I have tried to downgrade it to 11a but the Database is locked to Version 12 and is not usable.I’m looking to rebuild on Version 11a and archiving backups. is this possible? Adding Azure Blob Folder

Hello, I’m trying to set up an external repository in CE12.  I was able to create the container ‘backups’ and I can see it when I go through the repository wizard in Veeam BUT the wizard requires a folder as well as a container.  For the life of me I can’t figure out how to create a folder in the container.  Any help?

Pre-freeze and post-that scripts throwing error

Hi all,I have a VM running on Hyper-V 2016, its a Ubuntu 20.04.6 with MariaDB installed.So I defined a (cold) pre-freeze.sh and and post-thaw.sh and tested both in /tmp directory, it will work as expected when done with sudo, under the specified user. However when the backup job does that, it throws an error.
