1st time user of Veeam Backup and Replication, got some questions need to ask

So you created a file backup job in Veeam Backup & Replication? There is no way to tell Veeam to run upon starting up your computer. There are some settings for the Veeam Agent for Windows backup tool though that may suit your needs. See the Backup Schedule info for the Veeam Windows Agent below:

To help check for backup files corruption, Veeam does a ‘health check’ on backup files on your repository and certain days/times you configure in the Job Maintenance settings. See below for Maintenace tab info in the Windows Agent (but is similar for a Backup Job):

This helps assure your backups are recoverable if needed. So, no need for a cloud server. Not sure how to resolve connecting it by the minimal info you provided to be honest.

Thanks. What I mean is backup my NAS file to a cloud object storage. I wonder if Agent for Windows can make the configuration?

Once VBR installed, its act as orchestrator. If VBR lost the connection with the components your jobs will failed. Where do you send your Nas backups ?

For the second point, could you please give us some more info like the error message, are you using a VPN etc…

I want to send the backup files to a cloud object storage. As my NAS device has WebUI that I can make my job request anywhere.

Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR) is a server application that orchestrates backups with multiple components, allowing it to scale up to global enterprises in size, so in essence, some of the points here will seem a bit overkill running it on your own PC.

You’ll need your VBR server running to orchestrate backups that are using VBR components. So, if you want to back up your NAS with VBR, whichever server is running VBR (your PC in this case) must be online to carry this task out.

As for renting a cloud server, if you’ve got some form of VPN to connect your cloud server to your same network as your PC/NAS, then you could move VBR onto this instead. This would typically be a site-to-site VPN, though other methods are also possible.

In essence, I feel you’re going to be making some compromises here by using VBR in this scenario, because your PC will need to remain online whenever a backup of your NAS storage is taking place, if you moved VBR to a cloud server, you’ll still benefit from some form of compute that is ‘local’ to the NAS box, which would most likely end up being your PC again unless you’ve got some spare PCs/Servers kicking about, so the PC would still need to be on for the backup to take place anyway.

I’m not trying to discourage you from using VBR, it will be able to backup any SMB/NFS share you’re planning on throwing at it, but it might be more involved than you expect because of the reasons I’ve mentioned above.

But may be more configuration headache than it’s worth.
