I wanted to solicite the community as I am working on an outline to see if there were a few topics that people feel strongly about should be something covered for v13?If you have some topics you would like to see please post them in this thread as it is easier than a DM to me and they may get lost in the shuffle.I am working on the outline this week to get it submitted for approval so will probably give this until Wednesday before I stop taking ideas. I will have a chapter on VONE too in this book.Let me know what you want to see covered and I will do my best to get it in this book. 😁
I’m new using veeam, and our company just decided to use veeam as our backup solution. The 3rd party that setup the backup, is using application oracle agent, so it’s a managed mode as agent was deployed from the VBR.Backup job is running fine, and I saw that it’s using RMAN to backup the database. However, I don’t see a way to modify the RMAN script veeam is using. I have couple of questions:If I want to use recovery catalog, how can I put it in the backup script for the job with veeam managed mode. How to enable GFS, if I have to retain data for longer term (our requirement is for ex 7 years to retain data) Is it actually possible to restore from the specific veeam backup files (.vab,.vsm) from RMAN command? I tried to test this to restore specific control file not from the autobackup, as backup information has been deleted from the current control file, but it doesnot able to find it. thank you.
I’m backing up about 30TB of data in my homelab to LTO tape using Veeam 11 CE. Looking at the licensing if I upgrade to Veeam 12 CE then I will be restricted to 5TB of backup, and my jobs will fail. Am I understanding this correctly?ThanksDerek
ICYMI Today, we had our September episode of the Veeam 100 Show. This episode is the final special edition highlighting projects from the 2024 Veeam Community Hackathon.I was joined by my co-host @mkevenaar and team members, @coolsport00 @jorge.delacruz and Mykhailo Kolenko. We discussed their 2024 hackathon project, the Hexagon Protection Dashboard - a honeycomb-style view that polls the VeeamONE API in real time and instantly tells you which workloads are safely backed up, which are protected but require review, and which need attention now as are unprotected. If you missed the episode, catch the replay here! 🐝 Don’t forget to sign up for 2025’s Veeam Community Hackathon! Was previously working as intended, just tried to login. On the login screen there is a popup “Application update error. Try cleaning the browser cache“ Cleaned browser cache but did not change. When logged in there is no organization showing, and as such no backup/restore jobs are showing. Under Settings>Companies I get a popup error: could not prepare statement; SQL [with t as (SELECT c.id as id, cast(c.external_id as text) as externalId, c.name as name, SUM(CASE WHEN s.org_name='production' THEN s.sf_sfdc_used_licenses ELSE 0 END) as users, SUM(CASE WHEN s.org_name='production' THEN (cast(jsonb_extract_path(s.sf_storage, 'data', 'max') as float) - cast(jsonb_extract_path(s.sf_storage, 'data', 'remaining') as float)) ELSE 0 END) as dataSize, SUM(coalesce(s.storage_used, 0)) as storageSize, SUM(coalesce(d.db_size_bytes, 0)) as dbSizeBytes, COUNT(s) as sfOrg FROM vsf_configuration.company c LEFT JOIN vsf_configuration.sf_instance as s on c.id = s.company_id LEFT JOIN vsf_configuration
Hello, I recently installed B&R 12 Community Edition to backup a large file server to tape (about 36TB in one server). The disk backup is done to a QNAP NAS connected via iSCSI to the HyperV Server that hosts the VM (needed to use iSCSI as the QNAP NAS does not support files larger than 16TB).The backup to disk results in a 32TB VBK file. The tape drive is connected to another server running the Veeam Installation.Running a Backup to Tape job on the (VSS snapshotted) backup folder however behaves weirdly: right now after 48 hours the job progress is 99% with 88,9 TB of 88,9 TB transferred to tape but that number keeps on growing to 89 TB of 89 TB and so on. Yesterday it was at 99% with 50 TB of 50 TB transferred. The iSCSI target hosting the backup only has 50 TB in total disk space so reading 88 TB from that drive is rather unlikely. The job states "Continuing task for <VBK-File>" and the task.<Hostname>.performer_1.log gives me the line after the last tape swap on the au
I’ve been googling and am about to open a support case, but I’m checking here first. I have just built my first linux proxy servers using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Super easy, works great. Except I have two more that I’m trying to build as CDP proxy’s. I can setup as regular VMware Proxy’s, but when I attempt to install the CDP Proxy, I get the below errors.Error Failed to save Veeam CDP proxy: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it <IP Address>:6182Error Infrastructure item save failed Error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it <IP Address>:6182 This is my first time using Linux CDP proxy’s. I did have Windows Proxy’s in place but was having an issue with starting the CDP service on those machines after upgrading to 12.1 and decided to just remove those VM’s because they were 2012 R2 and are being replaced/retired anyway. Unfortunately, I’m not super well-versed in Linux so I’m learning here. T
Hi all, i’d like to clarify a best practice scenario for SOBR with Azure Blob storage.Environment (short) Veeam B&R v12.x — SOBR: Perf = Data Domain, Capacity = Azure Blob Cool (immutability 25 d + 10 d block generation), Archive = Azure Archive. GFS: Weekly 5 weeks, Monthly 7 months (~210 d). Goal: 30 d in Cool, then ≥ 180 d in Archive (Azure minimum). Candidate options (please advise which is best practice) Option A (simple & compliant, slight extra Cool cost): Keep Monthly = 7 months and Archive-after = 30 d. Keep immutability 25 + 10 = 35 d (Capacity cleanup deferred until D+35; ~5 extra Cool days). Option B (cost-optimized, if security allows): Set immutability = 20 + 10 = 30 d to align with Archive-after = 30 d, keep Monthly = 7 months. Option C (if keeping immutability 35 d and/or Archive-after 35 d): Increase Monthly = 8 months (~240 d) to stay ≥ 180 d in Archive in all cases. Question: Which option would you recommend as best practice (co
Hi,does anybody have experience in backup vms from elastic cloud server (ECS) in the open telekom cloud? My idea would be, installing veeam backup server inside the cloud. Backup the ECS with agents to an external storage provider AWS S3 oder WASABI for example.Greetings Hartmut

I am facing performance speed issues with the agent backup. The server capacity is 8TB, and it takes a very long time to complete the backup. Could you please advise if there are any solutions or recommendations to increase thebackup speed?
Hi All,What is the best resolution to pull Agent backup job reports configured with GFS from VAC integration with REST API or Swagger not using Veeam ONE. Thanks,

A customer uses the copy function for capacity tier to instantly copy on-premises Veeam backups (retention of 30 days) to object storage. They’ve configured object lock on the object storage (60 days) that has a duration longer than the local backup policy. As Veeam cannot delete a backup in object storage at 30 days, will it delete it after the object lock expires (60 days) or does the customer need to manually delete the files on object storage? My thoughts are Veeam will clean up those files once the the 60 day lock has expired, but got me scratching my head for sure
Hello,We have three ESXi servers connected to our Nimble storage using a Brocade Fibre Channel switch, each ESXi server connects to Nimble storage with individual zone as: ESXi1_Nimble, ESXi2_Nimble, ESXi3_Nimbe.A few months after this configuration was done, we added a physical server for Veeam B&R v12 as backup server and repository, which is also a backup proxy server. This is connected to the same FC switch and I created zone between the Veeam B&R server and the Nimble storage as: VeeamBR_NimbleAnd most recently, we added a HPE tape library to this mix for GFS tape backups. Added the library to the FC switch and created a zone between VeeamBR_HPETapeDrive. Each night, the Veeam B&R server runs backup jobs then stores into its local repository (D: drive). Then it runs backup to tape, which writes from the Veeam B&R backup repository into tape drive. I have already configured "Direct storage access" while configuring Backup proxy's Transport mode. The backup jobs do

Hello,i would like to ask, if its possible to set retention period of each database different.Based on Veeam helpcenter there is an option to set - “delete backups older than”, which will delete all backups of all databases due not native SQL backup supported. Is there any option how to achieve that? thank you
Hey Guys, Sorry for the weekend help, I am just too excited to leave VEEAM aloneI have googled and read other forum discussions to this topic but they all point towards a service not being started and in my case, everything is running, and I have rebooted everything also coming here for some helpI am in no rush this weekend, this can wait until MondayError message: Error: Managed session has failed: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it x.x.x.x:10005 Thanks in advance guys,
Not sure if I am missing something obvious but I have been poking around and I can’t find how to increase a CDP Proxy cache, without removing and re-adding. Thats seems a bit drastic and alot more work. Anyone been across this before ? Thanks Phil
Hi,I’m testing out the free Veeam Backup Agent for Windows (or whatever it’s called). I’m using the option to automatically start a backup when I plug in my USB Hard Drive. The option seems to work fine, but I don’t get any notification when the job starts so I always have to expand my tray and then hover over the icon to make sure it says Processing...Is there any way to get a standard Windows 11 pop up notification thing that would tell me when a job starts so I know it’s working? I have the box checked for Enable control panel notifications, but I don’t know what that does because it doesn’t seem to do anything. Thanks!
Hi community, Another question I get a lot regarding object storage is the absence of Synthetic Full backup in the advanced setting: There is no toggle for Synthetic option, but it can be activated via GFS: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/direct_backup_to_object_storage_limitations.html?ver=120Unlike block or file storage type, it is not required to schedule additional fulls in Advanced, when configuring GFS: Generally, object storage doesn’t need periodic Active Full backups due to the structure of the files and there is no notion of .vbk or .vib. I recommend using GFS option and not going to Advanced settings. Synthetic full on object storage works similarly to the one stored on XFS and REFS based repositories. Thanks!
I studied about Veeam’s GFS, as I understand, it’ll consume a lot of disk space to work? If I want to keep 31 daily, 4 weekly, 12 monthly, I’ll end up with 1+4+12 = 17 full copies disk space + 30 daily incrementials ? What if I create 3 different jobs on the same VM, daily (30days), weekly (4 weeks), monthly (12 months)I’ll end up with:one daily full + 29 daily incrementalsone weekly full + 3 weekly incrementalsone monthly full + 11 monthly incrementals Total 3 full + 43 increments, should use much less space than build-in GFS?
Hello, I thought I would give the new BETA2 version of the Veeam Linux deployment a spin. Booting up to the jeOS, I was surprised to see two new options:Veeam Infrastructure Appliance Veeam Infrastructure Appliance (with iSCSI & NVME)Detailed in the screenshot below, with the BETA1 version following:BETA2 BETA1Is this the new name for a Proxy or is this something else? And, the thing I’m probably most excited about….are we finally getting NVMe fabric support on Veeam?
Hi,I’m brand new to Veeam and have a question. Is there any way to get Veeam to work in conjunction with OneDrive’s Free Up Space feature?I have 800 Gigs of files in OneDrive but only a 512 Gig drive. I use the Free Up Space feature so my local drive only has pointers to the files and the OD client downloads them when I need them. I just ran a Backup and it only backed up 2 Gigs of files because I had recently “Freed Up Space” on my whole OneDrive folder. If I download half the OneDrive files, I could run a backup. If I then Freed Up Space and downloaded the other half, what would happen if I ran another backup? Would it treat the first group of files as being Deleted and see the second group as New? I can’t download them all at once as my Drive isn’t big enough so I’m not sure how to proceed.Any suggestions? Thanks.
Hi,Just lately, like over the last 2 weeks only I think, we’ve been getting emailed warnings from our Veeam server. They’re warnings, so do I assume that these eventually complete? Warnings are basically the same theme, as below for example...Background Removal JobFailed to remove checkpoints for the backup <JobName> from the repository <S3RepoName>: Amazon S3 External connection has returned an untrusted certificate..Processing finished with warnings at 21/08/2025 03:00:50Seems to be almost daily now, early hours of the morning after the VCC jobs have run. Quite annoying to keep getting the emails, annoying to not really understand what it’s really saying here also. I normally take warnings as almost ‘soft fails’ typically there is a retry that works and that’s that? Thanks in advance for any steer on this.
