Hello,

I try to restore some email for specific user let say user1@mydomain.com but i have error :

When restore using user1@mydomain.com

None of the required roles (Global Administrator, Exchange Administrator) is assigned to the user : user1@mydomain.com

When restore using administrator account

Failed to open mailbox : user1@mydomain.com. Failed to Access mailbox. The specific object was not found in the store. Default folder root not found.

Anyone know why?

Hi @hs08,

please verify if your administrator account has also “application impersonation” role, as described in the official doc:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo365/guide/permissions_exchange.html?ver=70

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo365/explorers/vex_required_permissions.html?ver=70

Hi @marco_s

yes, now i able to restore after adding the account to ‘application impersonation’

Application Impersonation will be deprecated by Microsoft. I’m surprised that you still can use it :)

Looks like they moved the deprecation date to end of June.
After that date, you can’t assign “application impersonation” to new users.
And in 2025, “application impersonation” will be removed entirely.

Future restores must be done by the restore portal or Explorer for Exchange with Modern Authentication with Azure AD Application Certificate. The Explorer for Exchange requires the latest v7a build:
