When creating SureBackup jobs there are often VMs which need additional care before their first successful run/test; like tweaking startup times of OS/applications or changing firewall rules. Also if you’re adding custom test scripts & roles then it might require multiple tries before they work like expected. On the other hand there could be a VM where the SureBackup job discovered an existing problem and you need to debug the system to find the root cause. This is where SureBackup troubleshooting mode (KB1216) comes into play. Instead of restarting the whole SureBackup job with all included VMs, you can just select a single VM and start it via right-click.After clicking start the SureBackup job will only run the selected VM and keeps it running regardless of its state (as opposed to the normal mode where an error will stop/abort the job).So with troubleshooting mode you can save some time when configuring or debugging SureBackup because you don’t need to wait for all VMs inside your

This issue I’ve seen with larger SOBRs having many ReFS extents. Having a backup-copy job (pruning) with GFS there were sudden unintended switches of backup chains to other extents. Thus loosing all space efficiency for the GFS points. We used scripts here to detect chains spanning more than a single extent. It turned out to be a bug solved in V10 paired with a very conservative process in VBR to detect extents near space exhaustion. There is some estimation here due not being able to estimate the space savings due to block recloning. This could be tweaked with two regkeys:Pfad: HKLM\Software\Veeam\Veeam Backup and ReplicationName: SOBRSyntheticFullCompressRate Value: 35, DWORDDescription: override the estimated space VM would take on SOBR in a full backup. % of previous full backup size. Name: SobrForceExtentSpaceUpdateValue: 1, DWORDDescription: enables advanced SOBR extents free space update logic. With this set to 1 (enabled) service updates cached extent free space every time tas
Dear all, is it possible to create backups (full, incremantal etc.) for MaxDB 7.9 with veeam and backint? The OS is SLES 12 SP5. Kind regardsSmiddy
I am curious what languages are used by the community for reporting, monitoring and/or automation. I personally do a lot of scripting with PowerShell. What language is worth learning it?I wish, Veeam will replace their PowerShell Plug-In by a PowerShell module in www.powershellgallery.com.@Kseniya Just a little thing: when embedding code here in the community, PowerShell is no language-option. Maybe this can be added in the future?
Happy Friday! In this episode, I and @Rick Vanover discussed community activities, highlights of the week, and also weather in Saint-Petersbourg and Columbus (spoiler - it’s getting colder in both places )Check it out now!
Here is the text from the e-mail received from the server:Failed to preprocess target Error: Failed to call RPC function 'FcWriteFileEx': Incorrect function. Failed to open fileDoes this look familiar to anyone? If so.. how did you resolve it??Thank you for any Help,
Just a question really simple… What do you like most about Veeam Backup & Replication? What is the main feature on Veeam that completely drive you crazy?
As @eprieto did already post an excellent 3-part series of new v11 tape features. I want to highlight 3 small other features here.Tape Consolidation As Esteban already explained, it is possible to copy tapes in v11. But Veeam put wood behind the arrow. You can use this feature to copy more old-generation-tapes to a few new-generation-tapes. In my example I used LTO2 as source and LTO6 as target.Select tapes you want to consolidate. You can also select tapes by media pool in wizard.Select the target device and target media pool.Choose your options and run the job. After that - in my demo - I copied two LTO2 tapes to one LTO6 tape. Full Tape Restore With v11 you are able to restore the entire Tape to a Folder. In wizard you choose the folder. Veeam knows how much space is needed and don't let you continue, when too less is left. When tape includes file backup, there are a few more options then. After the restore, all files are there like on the tape New column in Tape viewThe column shows w

Hi everyone!I recently had the honor of presenting at the Veeam User Group for CZ/SK and think the topic will be of interest to the general Veeam community. The presentation does cover some VMCE related topics, but will provide great advice for anyone studying for any IT certification exam.Hope you enjoy the presentation and any feedback would be very welcome

I took the time to put together this table in Draw.io and was impressed when I finished it, in v11 it will come with this great improvement in Hyper-V.

Many times we wonder what happens with encrypted VMs , here is this great explanation of Veeam Backup of Encrypted VMs Veeam Backup & Replication lets you back up encrypted VMs. The backup infrastructure must meet the following requirements:VM encryption instances must be preconfigured in the virtual infrastructure: you must set up the key management server, create the VM encryption policy and assign it to VMs in advance. The backup proxy used for backup must be working in the Virtual appliance transport mode or Network transport mode with SSL encryption enabled. The backup proxy working in the Virtual appliance transport mode must be deployed on an encrypted VM. Ensure either that you use a common Key Management Server (KMS) or that the Key Management Server clusters at both sites use common encryption keys. Replication of Encrypted VMsVeeam Backup & Replication lets you replicate encrypted VMs. The backup infrastructure must meet the following requirements:VM encryption in

When I thought the tape was forgotten ... Veeam brings us these improvements that I think are excellents! Tape 📼 Improvements TAPE CLONING !!! Allows us to Migrate from old LTO to newer tapes generations Additional copy for security reasons You can Copy from one drive to other drive via tape server You can Modify database and link old backups with new tapes You can Preserve link for old tapes File parts are detected and prompt for additional tape Note:Veeam can clone all Veeam tapes (B2T, F2T, NDMP), Veeam Can't do it for 3rd party tapes. What you need to know Requires at least two drives Restore selects automatically the needed tape if several copies exist No scheduler (use PowerShell) One media pool still does only allow one LTO generation What do you think of this improvement?
