Multi cloud backup

Hi guys One of our customer migrated all his workloads to Azure. For backup compliance he defined all workloads have to be backed up daily to AWS S3 immutable object store.So we have Veeam Backup for Azure for IaaS and NAS Backup for Azure File Share.Now my struggle is real. When I backup the file share with NAS Backup I’m not able to write the data to AWS on daily base, only “Keep previous file version” works. I used a scale-out backup repository with capacity tier the s3 immutable store and the setting “Copy backups to object store as soon as they are created” and “Move backups to object storage as they age out the operational restore window” but nothing happened.Also the Azure IaaS Backup Copy job does not work as expected. As backup repository I need to specify a scale-out repo because directly to object store is not possible. With same scale-out repo as above the local stored elements will not be deleted. Does anyone have any experience and/or suggestions?Kind regardsDaniel

Create least privilege VBO Azure AD applications without using VBO

Here’s a script I wrote to create Azure AD applications for VBO usage aside from creating the app from within VBO itself.I experienced that this is not always easy to do (Global Admin using VBO to create an app, or having the Global Admin read the documentation and create the application with the right permissions, etc… on his own), so I hope my script can help here. Resume of 1st VUG Brazil of 2021

Hello everyone! So, last week we have our first VUG of the year. It was a such good webinar that the principal subject was around the best features about data protection. If it weren't good enough, we still had the presence of none other than @Rick Vanover and @Kseniya. To start the event Rick and Kseniya talk about our Veeam Community Resource Hub and after this, they introduced how Veeam Legends works and what is the benefits to become a Legend. It was so nice listen them and I felt myself so counfortable with their words. Rick and Kseniya look like Batman and Robin of Veeam because they are very much involved one with other about Veeam Community. Seriously both of you are awesome!! Migrate VM from hyper-V to VMware using VEEAM 10 Instant recovery

The VMware Converter has failed to convert correctly the virtual disk.- Convert task success.- hd1 size error (vShepere vCenter : 0 / no disk detected (vSphere ESX, General View) / hd1 8 GB (Edit Settings ESX). When to use Planned Failover 👀

If you know that your primary VMs are about to go offline, you can proactively switch the workload to their replicas. A planned failover is smooth manual switching from a primary VM to its replica with minimum interrupting in operation. You can use the planned failover, for example, if you plan to perform datacenter migration, maintenance or software upgrade of the primary VMs. You can also perform planned failover if you have an advance notice of a disaster approaching that will require taking the primary servers offline.When you start the planned failover, Veeam Backup & Replication performs the following steps:The failover process triggers the replication job to perform an incremental replication run and copy the un-replicated changes to the replica. The guest OS of the VM is shut down or the VM is powered off.If VMware Tools are installed on the VM, Veeam Backup & Replication tries to shut down the VM guest OS. SureBackup Troubleshooting mode

When creating SureBackup jobs there are often VMs which need additional care before their first successful run/test; like tweaking startup times of OS/applications or changing firewall rules. Also if you’re adding custom test scripts & roles then it might require multiple tries before they work like expected.On the other hand there could be a VM where the SureBackup job discovered an existing problem and you need to debug the system to find the root cause.This is where SureBackup troubleshooting mode (KB1216) comes into play. Instead of restarting the whole SureBackup job with all included VMs, you can just select a single VM and start it via right-click.After clicking start the SureBackup job will only run the selected VM and keeps it running regardless of its state (as opposed to the normal mode where an error will stop/abort the job).So with troubleshooting mode you can save some time when configuring or debugging SureBackup because you don’t need to wait for all VMs inside your

SOBR placement policy not adhered to - solution included

This issue I’ve seen with larger SOBRs having many ReFS extents. Having a backup-copy job (pruning) with GFS there were sudden unintended switches of backup chains to other extents. Thus loosing all space efficiency for the GFS points. We used scripts here to detect chains spanning more than a single extent. It turned out to be a bug solved in V10 paired with a very conservative process in VBR to detect extents near space exhaustion. There is some estimation here due not being able to estimate the space savings due to block recloning. This could be tweaked with two regkeys:Pfad: HKLM\Software\Veeam\Veeam Backup and ReplicationName: SOBRSyntheticFullCompressRate Value: 35, DWORDDescription: override the estimated space VM would take on SOBR in a full backup. % of previous full backup size.
