Hi everyone,

I’m encountering an issue with an Off-Host backup job in Veeam. The job fails with the following error:

"Selected server HV01 is unavailable."

Here’s what makes this confusing:

  • HV01 is the Veeam Backup Server itself

  • I’m currently logged in to HV01, and it's definitely online

  • The VM being backed up is up and running

  • It’s just one VM in this Off-Host backup job

  • I’ve already checked the Veeam services, DNS resolution, and proxy configuration – all seem fine

Any idea why Veeam thinks the server is unavailable – even though it’s the Veeam server itself?

Thanks in advance for any help or pointers!

Cheers

Have you checked the windows event logs and DB logs. It could be a resource issue or a db issue.

I would also check the job logs as well. These can be found in the below location %ProgramData%\Veeam\Backup\%job name%

In VBR > Backup Infrastructure node > Managed Servers...does HV01 show ‘unavailable’ there? Whether it does or does not, maybe rt-click and go through the Properties again, or do a rescan.

Aside from checking the logs as Mark shared, maybe give Support a try.

Best.

Hey

Versions of a Microsoft Hyper-V host and off-host backup proxy must coincide. For example, if you use a Microsoft Windows Server 2012 machine with the Hyper-V role enabled as a Microsoft Hyper-V host, you must deploy the off-host backup proxy on a Microsoft Windows Server 2012 machine with the Hyper-V role enabled.

is that Ok on your side ?

If this is a backup job using an “Off-Host” backup proxy, then you need to make sure that the proxy server has all the required access to the HV-01.

If the proxy server is HV-01, then you should be using an On-Host backup.

Hi Guys,

it was just simply a storage issue the NFS Storage was not available, now we changed it to SMB and now it works.

Thanks y’all.

Glad to hear you identified the issue. Be sure to select a comment as the best answer, even if it is your own.
