Remember this is being done outside of their daily job activities so a big effort and all for the community. What annoys you most in IT?

My biggest annoyance nowadays is the sentence:“If it works, don`t touch it”The last years, this sentece has always track and target me at some point,Windows Server versions, SQL instances, ESXi Servers, also Veeam B&R Servers…I would say, keep it up to day, and, if it breaks cause of an update, follow best practices and keep everything at the highest level, just for patching and lifecycle proposes.Its a hard task, but has became a must in my daily operations!cheers.Luis.

You are also able now in vSphere 7 and higher to add a vmkernel port for backups that Veeam will use to send traffic instead of the default port for mgmt. Something to look in to. Check this post on the community - https://community.veeam.com/blogs-and-podcasts-57/how-to-isolate-nbd-backup-traffic-in-vsphere-977 I did not know this was a thing….amazing and I’ll have to dive down this one. Thanks for the link on this Chris! No problem. I am testing in my lab now. 😎 Ohhh, such a thing”I normally add a secondary virtual nic to my veeam server, wich is connected to a vnic dedicated for the 10gb network, also added the proxy servers, the storage destiny and the preferred network at the Veeam B&R Configuration.VeeamB&R will use management to talk to vcenter, but then the backups will be moved / copy through the dedicated network.cheers.

Backup VMs Windows Server with File Share

Totaly agree with the “IT DEPENDS”Nevertheless, I normally like to have a Full VM Backup, due to normally OS is not that heavy, easily deduplicated, and in worst case scenario you have a way to restore it entorely, not only data.Please add some more info, as @dips and @MatzeB asked for, for better understanding.cheers.

2 backup jobs of same servers to Repo and Cloud

Hi Peter, the questions is very “tricky”, and it depends…since V12 you can send backups directly to cloud🙃, so an independent job for each locations works.The thing I don’t really like at all, it that both tasks running at the same time.if the bandwidth is good, I would say independent job, directly to cloud, after Local one.if the bandwidth isn’t that good, what about a backup copy job?also not to impact the production with snapshots and full/ active/ whatever backups and so on.https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/cloud/cc_backup_copy.htmlim assuming the environment is holding virtual machines.is that cloud repo immutable?I would also love to read what the guys may say, this is just my little personal opinion here.cheers.

Sizing Nas / file share backup for 5 years

wow, looking at this topic, we use the word “guesstimation” a lot.try your best, add some extra space just in case, and ensure you have the ability to grow in case of need, extra disks, another expansion box for disks, archiving, etc.cheers.

optimise the backup performance in SMB shares

I would suggest to keep it “as simple as possible”If the workstations are located in the same network as the Synology NAS, The backup timing / schedule is setup to avoid overlapping, I will try to upgrade the Synology for better performance (SSD, Caché, Network if doable, etc.optimize the Veeam Agent backup (guessing) to daily incremental + weekly Full, and protect those SMB shares to not be visible over the network, no mapped anywhere, just dedicated for the backup.Sometimes the simplest, the better, they are only 5 machines.If the time comes that you need extra performace, grow the number of workstations, etc,investing in a Veeam B&R Server will be worth it!(fully my personal opinion based on what I read from your posts).cheers.

HiI can give you some personal advice here, just guessing and as ideas.From the agent perspective:Run the Backup task when the PC is not heavily used.Schedule the tasks not running all 5 at the same time.SSD and a Gigabit Ethernet. From the Synology:SSD Disks, even destiny or CACHE.Gigabit connectivity, if bonded, better.Don’t schedule other tasks in the backup window, like other shares, copies, etc.Depending on your Synology Model, the Memory and CPU will be also a bottleneck.cheers.

Hialso, have you tried to login over the local console? Or just rdp?if you have the server with fixed up address, ensure that the new host where you restored has the same network / vlan available.you should be able to login to a .\administrator ( or other account) and the rejoin the domain. cheers

New Vulnerability in Intel Processors – Downfall

dang it!it will never stops!I do remeber we had a “situation” with a processor, after upgrading, it just died and we had to call customer support to get it replaced, losing one ESXi Server for a couple of days.thanks for sharing.cheers.
