Requirement with Deduplication in windows where if you restore OS files it will not work and throws the error “The revision level is unknown”. Seems to be with the mount server OS versus the backed up VM OS along with having the deduplication turned on.Check this article for more information - KB2776: Guest OS File restore fails with ‘The revision level is unknown’ (veeam.com)
I performed a backup with exchange workload, but the job returned with a “nothing to process” error.what could be the reason for this?
Hello folks, I got a question for you.I inherited an ESXi-based structure with vCenter and backupped via Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5.4.2866.Without deleting the job and redoing a new one (the size of the vm is very consistent), is there a way to understand if when the job was created choosing vcenter and not directly VMs?My fear is that if the job was created by choosing the vcenter, if it goes down I can't restore the structure. And I have no experience about it.
Hello,as management finally has approved the founds we will upgrade our fileserver and backup structure both in hardware and software. Delivery and configuration is foreseen in ~ 2 weeks. The main server to be backed up will hold our fileserver with ~ 8TB and several smaller VMs (linux and windows). The B&R server will be on a seperate machine and inside a VM. The Hyper-V core is planned with Server 2022. Is there a risk of using Server 2022 for the B&R VM (after v11a release of course)? Is ReFS the best choice for the filesystem? BRFrank
Hey guys, I have another query. If I create a backup let’s say full backup on Monday, retention policy is 7 days and synthetic backup on saturday. On saturday once the full backup is created, will the previous backups merge to this full backup and get deleted once retention policy is expired ?Another question: consider the 1st question scenario in the backup settings, now if a customer deletes a backup on tuesday and reports this 20 days later, can he use the synthetic backups to recover the data?
Hey guys, I have a query. If you can see the attached screenshot, if I want to store the backup in secondary destination, will the backup run on both the primary and secondary destination simultaneously on the scheduled time?
If there is anyone that uses the Nutanix AHV Proxy appliance there is a known issue where it may not update to v3. Check the following KB for more information - KB4237: Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV Proxy Appliance failure to update to v3
Hey community, I want to use VBR 11a and VeeamPluginforSAPHANA to backup my SAP HANA database.Howerver, the test result is not ideal, Processing rate is only 1M/s.In my environment, the bandwidth between the VBR server and the HANA server is 10Gbps, and I have tested it with iperf3, everything is OK. and when I use VBR to backup VMs and NAS, everything is OK too. I also tried to set up different repositories using SapBackintConfigTool, but it doesn't work. What could be the reason? tks.
Anton Gostev has just announced the official support for vSphere 7.0 U3 in his weekly R&D Forums Digest. The only requirement is to run the latest VBR release v11a. And don't forget to update to 7.0 U3a because of the bug with thin-provisioned disks (link at the bottom).Onto the Veeam news next! Our QC has just completed the full testing cycle of VMware vSphere 7.0 Update 3 and we're now ready to declare its official support with the current version of Veeam Backup & Replication 11a. However, be aware that the original U3 build has a regression which can consistently cause PSOD on multiple hosts in cluster. This issue really plagued one of our labs to the point where we had to stop using it for testing completely. Luckily, right when we finally finished our testing on Friday, VMware dropped the new Update 3a build which supposedly addresses this issue. So be sure to download and use this newer vSphere build instead of the original one! As someone just told me, it always pays to
Veeam updated this KB that explains how to protect the VBR server using the Configuration backup and restore process.KB2645: Protecting the Veeam Backup & Replication server
If you are reducing your disks on your VMs be careful as it can cause an error with running Replication. The following KB discusses this and includes a solution -KB4232: Replication job fails with "Cannot replicate disk because its capacity was reduced" (veeam.com)
If the source VMs have virus/infected, technically Veeam can backup that but can Veeam knows that the source is infected with virus/ransomware?
Hey everyone. Can anyone give a reason on why immutability is setup for linux and amazon cloud storage and not for windows and other cloud storage like azure, GCP?
I've just discovered this tweet from Nutanix. As we also have community members who work with Nutanix I thought it was worth to be shared here. So if you were targeting for a Nutanix certification, then why not write it this weekend.
Following on from the excellent advice on what kind of storage server (and direct attached storage within) to use for a hardened Linux repository, may I push my luck to ask for some more advise or where to go next. Presuming I can get my hands on a suitable storage server and storage (as recommended) could anyone shed some light on how we’d need to set this up so that Veeam is able to back up the data on our Infortrend SAN. Here’s some further details of our config. We have a Windows server in our (remote) data centre that is running Veeam B&R v11. It is currently just making some physical backups of critical Windows and Linux hosts. These hosts are physically located in our office and there is a decent enough secure connection to make these backups over the line to the Veeam server in the data centre. However, I want to expand our use of Veeam to make regular backups of the TB’s of data on our Infortrend SAN which is also based in our office and this is where my lack of experience/k
If you use vSAN in your environment and have VONE v10/v10a installed the API calls could cause performance degradation in your environment. See the KB - KB4234:Veeam ONE version 10/10a impact on VMware vSAN
Veeam has published an updated list of supported vSphere versions. Check it out here - KB2443: Veeam Backup & Replication support for VMware vSphere
Veeam released a new Cumulative Patch for VBO365 5d.If you are a service provider and you are using VBO365 for doing backups of your customers to an object storage, please install the patch immediately. Without the patch, under specific conditions, there could be a data loss. You can find out more under the following kb article: https://www.veeam.com/kb4222
Hi, We have a lot of backup copy jobs (but far from all) that fails with the error “Failed to dispatch repository file session resource requst. Requested amount of file session (193) is greater than the maximum amount available (192).According to HPE Veeam should know that this StoreOnce has a internal limit of 192 datastreams and should not try to open number 193. Anyone with a idea of how to fix this?
For those that use a NAS for backups if you happen to have the Recycle Bin turned on for the NAS share you might want to read this article just out from Veeam on potential issues.KB4230: NAS Recycle Bin impact on Veeam Backup & Replication Repositories
We have provisioned VBR in production, tecnically with compute and storage. Can we replicate the recovery points from prod VBR to VBR dr? In dr, we will provion as well VBR dr resources. upon checking with veeam, they can replicate in the dr but the source is the vcenter prod as well, meaning 1vbr is enough as long as they vcenter in dr. Thanks
VMware has released an update to fix the thin provisioning issue and PSOD of hosts. See here https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/rn/vsphere-esxi-70u3a-release-notes.html#resolvedissuesThis issue - https://community.veeam.com/discussion-boards-66/heads-up-do-not-update-to-vsphere-7-u3-when-running-thin-provisioned-vmdks-1625
A bad bug was found in VMware vSphere 7 U3. A ESXi host may crashes with a PSOD when running thin-provisioned VMDKs. Currently there is not solution available. There are a few workarounds but no easy ones:Downgrade to older version, Convert all VMs (VMDKs) to Thick-provisioned, Disable TRIM/UNMAP in Guest OS.For more information see official VMware KB: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/86100@jorge.delacruz already posed about the issue: https://jorgedelacruz.uk/2021/10/22/vmware-psod-after-updating-to-vsphere-esxi-7-0-update-3-panic-requested-by-another-pcpu-thin-provisioned-vms/Maybe good news: U3a is already announced: https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2021/10/vsphere-update-3a.html
Hey everyone! Happy Friday! Today I’d like to create a safe space for people to vent, and maybe learn! What’s that one thing you see in your Veeam deployments that you just love to hate? As it’s Cyber Security Awareness Month, mine is definitely Cyber Security themed:For me, it has to be passwords that are so weak, it was barely worth using them! I’m talking the typical dictionary attacks, variations on the word “Password” or “Admin” etc. Fun Side Story:I once worked with a company that decided to have their RDS server pointing out to the internet ( ), they had a domain admin leave and instead of disabling the account, they reset the password to check over the account! And what did they set this key account’s password to? “Password1”. They got ransomware’d in under 20 minutes. Thankfully they had Veeam.
Hi there. Need help with backup Windows machine to Synology via SMB. I create user with password on my Synology, create a shared folder on my Synology.Than i create New backup job in Veeam Agent. After i complete all fields (i passed a check pair user/password), i receive error (on screenshot). I tried connect shared folder on Syno to Windows machine - it's ok. One more thing, when i push the "Apply" button in New backup job, in the shared folder created file and delete after half second. What i do wrong?I translate the error: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007B)"
