Restore Exchange Mailbox Items from Storage Snapshot

Using Veeam to orchestrate storage snapshots is a fast, reliable way to have frequent restore points and quick restores. Unfortunately, unlike a VMware backup, storage snapshots on databases are not application aware. Restoring application items from a storage snapshot will often give you a blank explorer window. The first thing you will want to do is restore from the storage snapshot, and select a Host to mount the SAN volume on With the explorer up it will look empty, but the volumes will be mounted to your PC.Click Add Store, or right click All Stores and Add a Mailbox Database Next, we will point the explorer to the specific Exchange mailbox database. If you go to C:\VeeamFLR\*VMname* you can see Volumes listed as folders there that are the mount points to the disks. This should mirror the folder structure on your Exchange server. SQL log-shipping, but only on certain days - find out how

In a customer project I just stumbled across the requirement to do SQL log-shipping with VMs. A simple task, I thought at first. But this time the request included a so-called division by zero - at least from a VBR perspective. With VBR (at least until V12), it is not possible to restrict log-shipping to certain days of the week. You can only set the overall frequency of log backups: Microsoft SQL Server Transaction Log Settings - User Guide for VMware vSphere (veeam.com)You can set a schedule for image-level backups of course. But in between, log backups are performed continuously as defined by the above setting.It came in very handy that @SteveHeart recently published another script that can determine which VBR backup job a PS script was started out of. The code in mention to actually determine the process ID of the VBR job above goes back to @tsightler. Moving VeeamBackup.mdf (and ldf) to a different location

My Backup Server’s C: Drive is getting tight and I want to relocate Veeams’s MS SQL Database files from their default location on C:\Program Files\… to a larger Data drive. Now, whilst I can find articles about relocating the whole Veeam config to a different SQL Server, I can find nothing on moving the database mdf/ldf within the same Server. Is it simply a case ofstopping the Veeam services, detaching the databases in SQL Server Management Studio, moving or copying the files to the new location, attaching the database from their new location?Has anyone had any experience of this? How successful was it? Are there any pitfalls to avoid?

Drop DB on a restored test server from SQL Always On Availability Group in production

We are trying to restore a huge DB which is part of a Always On Availability group to a test server. So the test server is up with the DB. However, the DB shows as Restoring after the restore. What is the work around to make the DB Ready? From what I’ve read, we need to drop the DB on this test server from the Availability Group. How can this be done without affecting the production DB. Our DBA is unable to drop the DB so reaching out to the community for alternative solutions.

Veeam v12 and StoreOnce replication issue

working in a client env with veeam v11 and 12….just upgraded to v12.we have issues with replication not working (started all of a sudden 3 weeks ago). Support said that it was a known issue in v11 and we needed to upgrade. Tbh I wasn’t convinced as its been working fine for some time.Anyway we upgraded to v12 but replication is still not working.You can see that the copy is seen as in-progress so Veeam is just trying to send data. You can also see on the storeonce side that Veeam files have landed/created with ZERO bytes. It just sits there for hours and you dont see any data being transmitted for some reason…..We do have a call with support but just wondered if you guys had any ideas. We’ve involved HPE and run scripts on the storeonce appliances which are able to send files between the devices (1G files, 10G files etc).

Troubleshoot Unable to Use-Hot Add with Linux proxy after Veeam v12 upgrade

Hello everyone,I would like to draw your attention to an issue detected following the Veeam upgrade to version 12 at one of my clients. This also applies to new installations.During backup and restoration operational tests, which are crucial to perform during installation/post-upgrade, the following error message appeared when restoring a VM: Unable to use Hot-Add mode.While analyzing the logs of a backup job, the proxies switched from Hot-Add to NBD mode.After analyzing the logs and isolating the issue to a single proxy (Forcing the proxy to use only Hot-Add + creating a test backup job with only this proxy), I was able to obtain a more informative message.There is a Veeam Knowledge Base article available at https://www.veeam.com/kb4460.To resolve the error, it is necessary to disable "multipath" on the Linux proxies, following the procedure outlined in the KB. After applying the fix, backups and restores successfully utilize the Hot-Add mode, resulting in improved performance.I apolo

Another post about my favorite feature in v11: Hardened Repository. This time it is about the ability to change the expiration date of already immutable restore points. Veeam made this possible by using PowerShell. The corresponding command is: Set-VBRImmutabilityLockExpirationDate. This post is about how to use it.Select the restore point you want to change immutability expiration date. Backup of Deleted User but mailbox/OneDrive still exist (for 30 days)

Just a quick question...I was tasked with restoring OneDrive data from an account for a client that apparently left and the user was deleted, but someone else was accessing the OneDrive data while the user account was still in the Deleted Users status/folder, but once the 30 days elapsed, that data was purged. This client is currently being backed up by Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud backup (until I get those folks moved over to Veeam) but I noticed that the last backup of the data was before the user account was deleted. Makes sense, but I hadn’t considered that their OneDrive would even be accessible by the other users during that time period if the user/mailbox had been marked as deleted.So my question is, if a user account is marked deleted, does VB365 still backup the deleted mailbox/OneDrive (or can it even do so - assuming that you had that user explicitly specified or had the job set to backup the entire organization, etc) until Microsoft purges that data? Let's talk storage.

I’m in the market for new storage at 2 sites. I’m hoping to get some input from the community here if any of you have a lot of data, or fast storage. Requirements - You need to be able to hit a minimum of 2GB/s on your Veeam jobs to post your solution. I want you to detail your proxy, repo, and storage setup as well. (This is not a competition though) Currently I have 2 V7000’s. I can hit about 2.2GB/s sending data to 6 LTO8 drives. I am hitting about 6k IOPS but the latency starts to increase at this point. I’ve been happy with this storage, (7200RPM disks) but it’s time to upgrade, and I am looking at a few options. Option 1) Exagrid at 2 sites. 10+ EX84 per site - Does anyone here own Exagrid storage? What is your performance like, how about long term restores? The price is decent, I just have concerns about a large scale instant restore, synthetic operations, merges etc. (Those are my current pain points with my current v7000s It’s fast untill I run too many at once) Option 2)

Restore Tape Veeam backup using new Veeam Installation

Hi, our client just had a ransomware attack and unfortunately veeam server and backup files were affected. Client had to rebuild their servers and We had to reinstall Veeam and recreate backup from start again.We are looking into introducing tape as “offline” backup so we can restore backup files from it in worst case scenarios. My question is, if we reinstall Veeam B&R is it easy to re-introduced the Tape Library and is it easy to scan for it and retrieve/recover the Backup Files from it to Veeam Disk Repository?

Nutanix AVH plugin vs Agent?

Hello, I just recently installed Nutanix AVH for a client; they were previously on VMware (and backing up with Veeam). I setup two backup jobs that use the Nutanix AVH plugin/appliance, but to be honest, I am not “happy” with it, and am wondering if it might be better to use the Windows/Linux agent to backup, but not sure what pros and cons are. What I am not overly-happy with with the Nutanix AVH plugin are: * Even though VMs are in the same job, backups get split per-VM, which I don’t think get any benefit from deduplication (though I think they benefit from compression still). The agent-based backups seem to behave more like the VMware-based backups in that the VMs in the same job get backed up to one file (named for the job), and benefit from deduplication (as well as compression) * The “session report” is very light on details. I had come to like the details provided by the “normal” session report I could see previously (and which I can get with the agent-based backups) What
