Hi all,

Relatively new to the community; been working with Veeam a while now, though!

After finally sorting some bits out, I’ve built out a home lab to play with Veeam, but also use my own data as a way to gather experience about day-to-day use of Veeam (I am an architect, so naturally, I never touch the product in anger 🙄 - hoping to fixing that!)

I’m loosely aware that the Veeam for Mac agent is relatively new, so while I understand there will be bugs, my current experience has been fairly frustrating (I don't want to treat this as a support-request post, so wont go into specifics). What is your experience of using the Mac agent so far?

Hi @jsb00227 -

Welcome to the Community! I personally haven’t used it and, to my recollection, haven’t seen many, if any, posts on the MAC Agent. Hopefully someone can chime in with their experiences using it.

Best.

Oh no, will I now be known as the weird new guy who uses the Mac agent!? 😂

I mean...I’m sure those people exist more quantities more than one…..  😉

Have used Veeam off / on over the last 12-15 years. I’ve used commercial licensed versions for Windows servers and desktops. I’ve also used Windows community edition for home / personal backups. I installed the Mac Agent on my personal laptop to do backups and in 5 months, it has yet to capture a single backup successfully. It’s basically useless as far as I can tell.

I have tried to exclude all kinds of directories in order to avoid collisions with Apple protections. But I can’t figure anything out on the Mac to actually capture a backup. It runs for anywhere from 90 minutes to over 3 hours and then just fails. Not exactly a thing that can be corrected quickly since it takes hours between iterations.

I get lots of warnings of certain files that may or may not be in use at the time. But I would expect it to back up things that weren’t locked. I don’t get any other specifics other than lists of files that it couldn’t back up for one reason or another. Then it just fails. So it’s pretty frustrating to say the least. TimeMachine seems pretty inconsistent in backing up also so I was hoping Veeam would be more consistent. But it doesn’t work at all. Since I don’t get any specific messages about why it failed, I have no idea where to even look for solutions. The tail of the logs in in the /Users directory but other warnings prior to that point are in other directories so it’s not just something with a single directory.
