I’d like to first thank Rick Vanover, Madalina Cristil, Nikola Pejková, Aubrey Galen, and everyone at Veeam for their efforts and support leading into the Veeam 100 Summit. It’s a HUGE undertaking that requires many levels of coordination. This was my first time attending the event in person. It was an honour to attend such a prestigious event and meet many fellow Vanguards, Legends and MVPs in person. It is amazing how being at an event and being able to speak to others of the same mindset makes you feel great. As for the host city of Prague, it never fails.Day 1 included a Welcome Reception.A big thanks to Jim Jones and 11:11 Systems for sponsoring our Go Kart event earlier in the day! It’s safe to assume everyone thoroughly enjoyed this experience!Day 2 was the official kickoff for the Veeam 100 Summit. Rick, Madalina, and Hannes Kasparick started the day with a presentation in which we learned more about the various Community groups managed by each. If you’re not familiar with e
Hi! In this post, I describe some aspects of the analysis of entropy analysis associated with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques aimed at detecting Ransomware. This is an exciting topic. As announced in VeeamON 2023, Veeam is working to improve the VDP´s ransomware detection capabilities with AI/ML to perform an in-line entropy analysis of the data stream on backup proxies to detect previously unencrypted data becoming encrypted. It can undoubtedly be another powerful tool in the battle against ransomware.Ransomware Detection: Entropy with Machine Learning and AI – Cloud and Roll (cloudnroll.com)

Veeam 100 Show - Second episode -Veeam community leverages AI for next gen support and content experiencesVeeam 100 Show #2
If you missed out on the second episode of the Veeam 100 Show with @anthonyspiteri79 , @benyoung and @kristofpoppe , fret not! You can still watch the replay and gain valuable insights, tips, and knowledge that were shared during the event. With the participation of the two #VeeamVanguards alongside #Veeam's Regional CTO for APJ, Anthony Spiteri, this session offers an exciting journey into how the #Veeam Community is delving into the dynamic AI landscape, forging a path and laying the groundwork for a significant transformation in support and content experiences. Design question, how to not overload the firewall.Customer has a physical B&R server on LAN1, and a physical Linux Hardened Repo on LAN1.They also have like 100 Physical servers on LAN2, 3 and 4.Traffic goes through the firewall obviously, and the fear is that it will overload it, affecting production.Since we can’t use Proxy Servers for Agent backups (no such thing apparently), how can I avoid pulling the traffic through the Firewall? The B&R Server and LHR are 10Gbit and use tagged VLANs, so I can quite simply add VLAN2,3,4 to the VLAN trunk and give them a link into the Agent VLANs. Will that work? Do I need to add both the B&R server and the LHR, or just the LHR? Can an LHR have several IP’s like that and still work? Will the traffic go from the agent directly to the LHR or via the B&R server?Other ideas welcome...Thanks!
Hi allI often use a DELL PowerEdge R740XD2 as a Veeam Repository. This with a bunch of SAS HDD disks in RAID-60.Great as being a repository. But to make the disks even faster, I want to use 2x SSD disks to configure as a write cache so the backups can be written even faster.NICs are 10Gbit.As a RAID controller a PERC H730P is being used.Windows Server 2022 and REFS 64K is being used on the repo. This is a setup often being used in combination with Veeam.Cachecade is not possible anymore on the RAID controller. What options are there?Using 3rd party software to use the SSD disks as write cache. What software is recommended by Veeam and are you guys familiar with? Or just stay away from it because the extra performance is just limited? Thx for your feedback! regardsNico
I had to do a quick backup of a VM today.OK, no problem I thought and hit the Quick backup menue topic for this VM in the inventory tabThe job started and I saw some disk exclusion in the job log.Mhh… I wanted a quick backup of the whole machine. Then I saw that another job than I had expected was started for the quick backup.OK, this job backups indeed on disk of the VM only….Then I recognized that this VM is associated to several backup jobs. One which backups the whole VM, one to backup one VMDK with DB Backups and on job to backup one VMDK with log backups. It’s an older setup with a database without application aware backup. So, it seems that the quick backup executes the backup job which was executed last for the VM before the quick backup is started….And you have no choice to tell the quick backup which job you want to use… Am I missing something here? Is it a bug or a feature???? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to select the job which is used for that?Or am I the only one finding
What is the most challenging thing you have done using Veeam, or solved with Veeam? For me it was the Veeam Lab as I have some very odd networking requirements and trying to solve why it would work but I couldn’t get the machines to talk was a challenge. Some others were wrapping my head around retention policies when I first started and Tape. Now it’s all just day to day :) As for something challenging I have solved, it’s mostly internal stuff at my company such as our insane retention requirements and large data. With Object storage I'll be able to archive to the cloud and also to tape (as per policy), delete data from production and retrieve it in 20 years if I am required. This saves having to restore a full VM from Tape to get one file.
If there is anyone that uses the Nutanix AHV Proxy appliance there is a known issue where it may not update to v3. Check the following KB for more information - KB4237: Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV Proxy Appliance failure to update to v3
It’s the year of Linux!!! Well, at least for me it is. 😉 I’ve used a decent amount of Linux CLI over the years in managing vSphere environments, but not learned near as much as I wanted to. I always felt a void in my depth of knowledge & expertise about Linux. So I started this year going all in with LFCSA (Linux Foundation Certified Systems Administration) video courses on Pluralsight, learning about Linux Storage, Operations, Users & Groups, Service, and Network Management.Because I’m way more comfortable now using Linux, I’m planning on implementing Linux systems as Veeam Backup components in my environment to decrease the heightened security risk Windows systems tend to pose. As such, I’ve been reading up on Linux implementation in Veeam’s User Guides, starting with the Veeam Agent for Linux (VAL) User Guide. I thought I would share my Linux Agent journey from Preparation, to Install/Implementation, to “Hiccups” encountered, to Backup Success with the Community in hopes ot

If you are using Veeam ONE with MS SQL Express you probably either have a small environment or you just didn’t hit the 10 GB database limitation yet But, how much space will the database then consume? The good news is Veeam offers a Veeam ONE database calculator tool right here: https://www.veeam.com/kb2246It is actually a Excel spreadsheet, but is very easy to use: But wait! Don’t forget to select the correct data collection mode you plan to use at the bottom:In case you are wondering what this is, check out the user guide: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/one/deployment/typical_choose_collection_mode.html?ver=100 and the table from https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/one/deployment/data_collection_modes.html?ver=100 (partial screenshot):

Happy Wednesday! I’ll try and post a little pop quiz question each day, hope to hear from many of you. Did you know the answer? Did you look it up in the documentation? Did you try it in a lab? Please share some details along with your answer.Moving backups from the capacity tier to the archive tier, how can one decide which server type will be used? Which network will be used etc. for the temporary appliance that is deployed?
Hello Veeam Community,El Rickatron and I cover this week's activity - but we need your opinion: Did we break the rule and should there be a new section on the community site for VMCE content? Check it out now and let us know what you think! ICYMI: Make sure to take a look at the Veeam Community Guide.

I had created a topic earlier about my book coming out - Mastering Veeam Backup & Replication v10 - Packt/Amazon Today I will be posting on my blog which will then go to LinkedIn and Twitter. I am working with Packt on a book giveaway for 5 people that comment on the LinkedIn post and will put up a review of the book as well. My blog is here - https://just-virtualization.tech So be on the lookout if you want your chance to win a free paperback copy of the book. We are also giving away some of the e-books as well I believe. Best of luck to all.
