Hey community! I was wondering what’s everyone thinking about vTrailMap page, which we designed earlier this year? Would be nice to hear from you whether you liked it or not.https://www.veeam.com/vmware-vtrail-map-2020.html

When I thought the tape was forgotten ... Veeam brings us these improvements that I think are excellents! Tape 📼 Improvements TAPE CLONING !!! Allows us to Migrate from old LTO to newer tapes generations Additional copy for security reasons You can Copy from one drive to other drive via tape server You can Modify database and link old backups with new tapes You can Preserve link for old tapes File parts are detected and prompt for additional tape Note:Veeam can clone all Veeam tapes (B2T, F2T, NDMP), Veeam Can't do it for 3rd party tapes. What you need to know Requires at least two drives Restore selects automatically the needed tape if several copies exist No scheduler (use PowerShell) One media pool still does only allow one LTO generation What do you think of this improvement?
I work pretty heavily with backups in my current role, and we use your product and another product with some of our clients. The other product has a feature that is incredibly helpful and I think would be an amazing feature to add to Veeam. How feasible would it be to add a “Force Retention” feature? I really believe we need this for situations when we run into low disk space. In Veeam’s current state, if I run into an issue where I need to reclaim disk space, I am forced to break my backup chain and delete data. If I could lower retention on my backup and then force retention, that would effectively eliminate the need for me to have to lose data and break a backup chain. For example: if I am in a situation where I am getting failures due to low disk space, and I have retention on said backup job set to 30 days, if I could cut retention down to, say, 20 days, and force retention, I could maintain my current backup chain and then address the disk space issue accordingly (adding more dis
Hey everyone,There were a few discussions at Community Hub around Kasten, Kubernetes and the way to try K10 product (if there are NFR keys available)Well, the good news is that there are two ways to test it!Hands-on Lab: Take a Kasten K10 TestdriveYou can take a live testdrive of K10, Kasten's data management platform for all your Kubernetes-native backup, DR, and application mobility needs. What you have to do to get access: To learn how Kubernetes-native application backup and recovery works, complete the form here and receive an email containing a link to the Kasten K10 testdrive.Install from the Cloud - 50 Nodes for 1 Month, 10 Free ForeverK10 Editions (Starter, Enterprise Trial, and Enterprise)The default Starter edition, provided at no charge, is functionally the same as the Enterprise Trial and Enterprise editions but limited from a support and scale perspective. Hello, I have a question.I have a scenario with a server, it has Veeam Backup Community installed and makes copies locally.I would like to add an external copy on a server that is now deprecated, and I would like to use for copies.I have tried to get Veeam Backup Agent for Windows to be recognized on both servers, but it is only recognized by one, the one doing the installation. Is it possible to make copies of the same server from two Veeam Backup servers?Thank you all.
I am not the container/Kubernetes guy - working on it - but it looks like, Veeam made the right decision to acquire Kasten for Kubernetes Data Protection! It is named as one of the 3 leaders in this area. Looking forward to put hands on.https://blocksandfiles.com/2020/11/14/gigaom-kubernetes-data-protection/

Hi everyone,In this episode, I and @Rick Vanover discussed community highlights, Veeam User Group events and announced the final name for the cat!Check it out now!
I just wanted to remind people of Veeam’s stance towards supporting multiple editions of products with the impending release of v11 and the all-star collection of upgrades we’re about to receive.Veeam have three stages to the end of the lifecycle of a product version:Stage One: End of FixVeeam focus their development on bug fixing on the latest available version only, so if you encounter a bug with v10 once v11 is released, one of two things will happen:If the issue is resolved on v11, you will be advised to upgrade to v11. If the issue isn’t resolved on v11, Veeam’s default stance is not to fix on v10, but instead focus efforts on fixing in v11, they do have a caveat this will be reviewed on a case by case basis but you shouldn’t expect to get a fix on v10.You will still receive technical support on products in this stage provided you have a valid support contract.Stage Two: End of SupportOnce a product has reached end of support even with a valid support contract you will no longer r
Hello everybody! I have a brazilian blog that I started to produce some contents about data protection and Veeam. So, I’m gonna write about Veeam too. The first post I wrote was about 3-2-1 rule and now I’d like to know what kind of subjects y'all think that would be interesting to write about? If you have any tips for me, just let me know!
Greetings everyone, Veeam keeps releasing, and improving the RESTful API of the different products and solutions. The last two that have been received and incredible amount of new API calls, improvements, and changes are the one for Veeam Backup for AWS v3, and the new Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v5.Veeam tends to release a small what’s new for API where it highlights, briefly, the new stuff. If you are a heavy user of the RESTful APIs, maybe you are using them for automation, maybe as a Service Provider, you will probably like to see a full detail of all the changes, so here we are! Thanks to my colleague @Chris.Arceneaux who helped me understand Matrix, I am delighted to share with you the changes between the new API versions vs the old ones. Veeam Backup for AWS v3It was so subtle that I almost missed it, in fact I did for the first hours working with the API, as it is not a new version itself, just a new revision of the API v1.0. The changes are massive, as you can imagin
Hi Veeam Community,I and@Rick Vanover are back, and this is our first Veeam Community Recap of the 2021!Check it out to catch up on the community highlights, as well as the next steps for the CAT situation - we are about to give some finality to this!
Hello friends, Can Veeam perform a file level backup by specific file name prefix? If a file starts with dept1 across all servers, then Backup only those files to repository X.If a file starts with dept2 across all servers, then Backup only those files to repository Y. Our retention policy require us to keep specific files for a short period of time while other files for a longer period of time. There are several file servers with TBs of data to backup this way. Is this even possible? Any feed backup would be appreciated. Thanks, Derek

I recall from one of the recent Veeam R&D Forums Digest newsletters that Reverse Incremental for Hyper-V is being removed or has been removed in VBR. This is useful for sending full backups to Tape, otherwise we have to do synthetic full to Tape (heavy use of virtual memory for our TB-sized backups) or create a synthetic .VBK (use more disk space).Which VBR version did Veeam start doing this? Luckily still on 9.5I feel like Hyper-V is getting short-changed ...
Here I want to show how to query space in VBR Repositories with a few PowerShell snippets. These can be taken to check used space and compare this with restore points in VBR database. It can be used for larger environments to analyze repository space. I used these codes to analyze differences in size on the repositories at a customer.First check: Restore points in database and compare them to allocated space on repository.$VbrVMs = ((Get-VBRBackup | Get-VBRRestorePoint) |select vmname, @{N="Job"; E={$_.getsourcejob().name }}, @{N="Repo"; E={$_.getrepository().name }} , @{N="size"; E={$_.getstorage().stats.BackupSize }}) The output of this one-liner should be the same as properties of disk backups. When total over all this corresponds to used space on repository volumes, everything is OK. If not, a problem can exist.Second Check: You can check each physical file with Veeam known files in DB. I used this script (http://sebastiaan.tempels.eu/2017/05/05/veeam-orphaned-files/) to start w

Hi, A feature I believe would be extremely useful would be scheduling SureBackup around the completion of a Backup Copy Job. Backup Copy Jobs aren’t scheduled the same as usual jobs so I understand the additional complexity around this however the reason for my request is simple. One of SureBackup’s primary limitations is Disk IO, if we create a SureBackup job to run after a backup job is complete, a Backup Copy Job could then start consuming IO to transmit this backup to an archive tier, Cloud Connect or to some other secondary repository. This creates contention for IO with SureBackup, impacting the ability to validate virtual machines.A key example of this behaviour is when VMware Tools fails to start within the traditional 30 seconds (I’m aware of registry keys that can amend this behaviour, but it’s just one example). If we could chain either BCJ’s to run after a backup is validated (so we know we’re copying good data firstly) or even inversely whereby we run SureBackup after the c
