[What (esle) is new in v11 - V] Tape stuff

As @eprieto did already post an excellent 3-part series of new v11 tape features. I want to highlight 3 small other features here.Tape Consolidation As Esteban already explained, it is possible to copy tapes in v11. But Veeam put wood behind the arrow. You can use this feature to copy more old-generation-tapes to a few new-generation-tapes. In my example I used LTO2 as source and LTO6 as target.Select tapes you want to consolidate.You can also select tapes by media pool in wizard.Select the target device and target media pool.Choose your options and run the job.After that - in my demo - I copied two LTO2 tapes to one LTO6 tape.  Full Tape Restore With v11 you are able to restore the entire Tape to a Folder.In wizard you choose the folder. I came across a SAP DB2 installation during one of my last projects and wanted to share with you how to backup these databases. Introduction on pre-freeze and post-thaw scriptsSince there is no native integration of SAP DB2 in Veeam, we need to use pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts within the guest processing options.Pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts are being used, when an application does not support VSS for example. The pre-freeze script is used to quiesce the VM file system or the application prior Veeam triggers a VMware snapshot. [PowerShell] Export VBR console job logs

These days I invested the possibility to programmatically export the same job log shown in VBR console (GUI). @JMeixner gave me the missing link. Now I want to share my outcome here.First, select the backup session of the job you want to get the log from. To select the job session run latest, you can do this with a command like this:$BackupSession = Get-VBRBackupSession -Name "Job 1*" | Sort-Object CreationTime | Select-Object -last 1Here the name of the job is actually "Job 1". But -Name is the name of the running job. vSphere without vCenter Use Cases for Backup in Homelab

I had a discussion recently about backing up ‘standalone’ ESXi servers, without the vCenter Server application. The discussion started around we were sharing my homelab but the use case became attractive for retail, edge and other ROBO scenarios. Why no vCenter Server Application?I do not run the vCenter Server Server Appliance (vCSA) at home simply because I don’t need it. At home I recently simplified my home lab. In March and April, I had to work from home for a while and it made me think about the home lab since I wasn’t travelling. I upgraded to a new host (still on vSphere) but really don’t need the vCSA. I do *not* use the free ESXi hypervisor, as I use the vExpert license on the host to unlock the full APIs that I need for backup. In our work lab environment, we definitely use the VCSA for a number of environments and if I need that type of environment, I’ll do that over there.It’s interesting when you use the ESXi host in a licensed mode, it allows a number of Veeam capabiliti

Another great little thing is the possibility to display timestamps in job log in VBR console. As you know, logs in console look like this:You see start and end-time. Adobe Flash End of Life

Afternoon, Whilst not directly related to Veeam it’s worth reminding those of you using VMWare in your environments that if you’re using a version of vSphere that requires Flash, you have until the 12th January before Adobe trigger the kill switch preventing Flash from running, permanently. This could also cause you pains if you have plugins that either haven’t been upgraded to HTML5 yet or don’t have feature parity with their Flash counterparts. If you’re not on a version of vSphere that supports HTML5 or you haven’t got all the Flash client features you’re either running an unsupported version or you’re extremely out of date on your patching and haven’t got full feature parity yet. Full information here

How to temporarily turn off MS O365 throttling

When you will download data from Exchange Online – Microsoft will throttle your traffic. In previous years to change it, you should open a support ticket to MS. Now you can temporarily change this directly on Microsoft 365 admin center. This can be especially useful for initial full backup for multiple mailboxes. How to setup this? Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and in the top right corner open help and just type “ews”. Then you have to run tests as a results you will have option to select duration 30, 60 or 90 days with higher throughput speed.select one of available value and update settings.

Veeam - Hitachi Storage Plugin Installation How-To
