I’m new to Veeam and I really like how easy it is to create scheduled backups and to retrieve individual files.Does anyone know what kind of compression Veeam uses when they create either increment or full backups? Thanks, Steve
I hope you can help me with the following problem.I have ubuntu/linux running alongside windows, dual boot system.Veeam Agent for Linux FREE is installed in ubuntu/linux.But now when I arrive at Shared Folder Settings both NFS and SMB I can't fill in anything.See attached photo as an example.Path, Domain etc... In v5 it was not possible to restore sharepoint online data to another tenant. After upgrading to v6, is it possible to restore the data created with v5 to another tenant? Or should the backup created with v6? Kind regardsJohn
Curious what y’all are doing in this sort of situation. I have a client with a rather large VM (95 TB, consisting of VMDK’s at 100GB (OS), 30TB, 19TB, 20TB, 9TB and 17TB). The repo (Synology NAS) is about 90TB of usable space with a second NAS at 24TB. The volumes are ISCSI presented as RDM’s to the virtual Veeam server running 2012 R2. Volumes are formatted REFS.The backup job for this server is split into three jobs...one for the OS disk and the 9TB and 30TB disks (active data) to the primary NAS, one for the 19TB and 20TB disks (Archive Data) to the Primary NAS, and one for the 17TB disk (Archive Data from an old location) to the secondary NAS).Current backup jobs are forever forward incrementals keeping 31 days of restore points, but as such, we have defragments and compactions running, but they take a VERY long time (the first mentioned job has been running for almost 16 hours and is at 6%, and that’s with only 3 restore points due to an issue I fixed yesterday where the volume

I’m trying to restore backups from my S3 object storage as EC2 instances in AWS. I’m receiving this error after the EBS snapshot is created:Importing VM Error: Failed to import machine to Amazon EC2: Using an encrypted snapshot as input is not supportedThe reason for this is the “Always encrypt new EBS volumes” setting, which unfortunately is mandatory in my company. Is there a way to work around this?
Happy Friday! Today I’d like to talk about technology. Whether software or hardware, it’s amazing the ways that it revolutionises our lives. I recently came across some technology I’d love to share, and get your own tech & stories. The technology I’m going to share is called Bionic Reading. It is a technology focused on complimenting the brain’s reading process, by guiding the eyes through text with artificial fixation points, such as bold text or different font sizing. It has been especially well received by people diagnosed with ADHD due to its ability to retain attention of the reader for longer. I’ve found this handy when used with technical documentation or other text heavy works, to avoid eye fatigue. Bionic Reading is available as an API, a traditional document converter tool is available, a Chrome extension to process websites for Bionic Reading, and then API is integrated into multiple RSS Reader apps such as Lire, Reeder 5 and Fiery Feeds. I’ve purchased Reeder 5 and foun
I was wondering if anyone have a nice Word-template I could use for reporting the results of disaster recovery tests. It doesnt need to be created dynamically from the data of the test. The report is meant for the board members and the CEO on a higher level. So its basically just a nice, clean layout (of course a Veeam logo somewhere...) but also look professional.
Hey guys, can proxy affinity be applied to dedupe storage appliance ?
Hey guys,Now we all know the backup workflow for Veeam. During backup workflow Veeam instructs the client to create a snapshot. But I have seen in customer environments where backup jobs have resulted in failure or warnings where it says not enough space to create snapshot. What is the recommended solution for this outcome?
Hello, I want to ask about something belongs to Veeam Backup & Replication 11 Community EditionI had a machine with total size 4.3 TB on vCenter and all disks are on vCenter Datastore, I had to restore it yesterday to a specific old backup and hit enter and this deleted all current VM and started to restore from the old backup after that I got a call from the team to stop it (at 1%) and restore to some another old backup but when I was restoring to this one I checked the option Quick Rollback, I know this is not recommended at the current situation but that's what happened. My question now is it going to finish successfully or it will fail ? actually it's now 36% (1.6 TB / 4.3 TB)I just want to make sure it will finish with this checked option (quick rollback) Thanks and Regards,
Hi guys, I want to make backup through veeam virtual machines in hyper - V. where on windows to make successfully, but on linux failed . How to solve this problem?
Hi everybody, I just asked my self the question: ‘what will I do when I need to restore my SQL-server-VM and do need to rollforward to the latest state of the database’. Assume you have a vm with a SQL-server. You’re backing up this vm every 5 hours and you have configured a transaction log backup every minute. Now something bad happens inside your vm and you know you have to restore the vm from a restore point the day before - say you cannot access the product vm anymore to keep it simple. Whatever you do (IR, CDP replica, normal replica), your vm runs but the database contains old data, you need to rollforward to the latest backed up transactions. If you just restore you vm with the networks connected, some applications might access the database and would probably insert data - that would be a huge mess. So you’d disconnect the networks, probably login to your vm to delete the database, then connect your networks. Then you could run the instant database recovery added in v11 (I lov

I recently added 4 new “Backup Accounts” to my O365 Organization to assist in a throttling issue I ran into earlier with running my whole organization backup job with no additional Backup Accounts. The Backup Accounts show as Configured with a green check mark.I started my regular whole organization backup but I don’t know how to verify that the added Backup Accounts are doing their job. Do I just look in the Veeam.Archiver.Proxy or Veeam.Archiver.Shell log files found under C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup365\Logs?
If you are like me and can’t turn down something that is free, you should try out the Quantum DXi V5000 Community Edition download. What you get is virtual backup appliance that has all of the features and capabilities that Quantum’s physical DXi dedupe appliance has. What is wicked cool, a New England way of saying “awesome”, is you can store up to 100TB of data on the DXi V5000 using only 5 TB of disk capacity. This is assuming you see the full 20:1 deduplication of your data, so based on your data you might see less than the full 100TB. Like I said, I can’t pass up a good thing that is also free. So, I am going to download the DXi V5000 and install it in my home lab. I will also write a future blog on how to use the DXi V5000 with Veeam. Hope you take a look at the DXi V5000 and find it useful.
Morning all,Am getting this error when trying to push agent to win svr 2012 r2 :Error 1920. Service <display_name> (<service_name>) failed to start. Hello,I’m trying to restore a Veeam backup from Capacity tier (S3) into an EC2 instance in AWS.However, I’m facing a problem with the proxy instance. Once I start the restore process, the proxy instance is created, but after abou a minute I get an error:“Preparing proxy appliance VM Error: The destination would not be a correct SSH server.”I tried ssh to the proxy, but the connection gets rejected, while connections to other hosts in the same subnet with the same security groups are successful. So I manually created an instance using the same settings Veeam uses for the proxy, same subnet, security groups, AMI, and found that connections are successful, but only a few minutes after instance creation with that particular AMI Veeam chooses for the proxy instance (aws-parallelcluster-3.1.4-ubuntu-2004-lts).Now, the question is, is there a way to configure the AMI, the timeout or the number of SSH retries for the proxy appliance? Thanks!!!
I’m looking at my Veeam B&R and all of my VMs show backed up and they even show restore points. You can see from the attached pic that my VM has 10 restore points. I’ve even done a restore from one of the restore points and it is in fact the VM from 5 days ago. Now, in Veeam ONE, when I look at my protected VMs report, I see zero VMs as protected no matter what time frame I select. My “other” reports that I run look accurate, but my protected VM report literally shows all of my VMs as unprotected, meaning no backups or no restore points for the RPO. It sure seems like I’m missing something. Only just now looking at reporting so hoping for some guidance here. Thank you
Can’t find an exact answer to this scenario. Is it possible to run a Linux vm (Ubuntu) on a synology (via VMM), and expose (or give access to) the underlying storage to the vm so that we can use the immutable feature?example:1: 40tb storage in one volume2: ubuntu vm having access to that storage somehow (I’m unfamiliar with vms aim synology)3: somehow configuring the veeam server to point to the Ubuntu vm storage so that it can use immutability

Design question, how to not overload the firewall.Customer has a physical B&R server on LAN1, and a physical Linux Hardened Repo on LAN1.They also have like 100 Physical servers on LAN2, 3 and 4.Traffic goes through the firewall obviously, and the fear is that it will overload it, affecting production.Since we can’t use Proxy Servers for Agent backups (no such thing apparently), how can I avoid pulling the traffic through the Firewall? The B&R Server and LHR are 10Gbit and use tagged VLANs, so I can quite simply add VLAN2,3,4 to the VLAN trunk and give them a link into the Agent VLANs. Will that work? Do I need to add both the B&R server and the LHR, or just the LHR? Can an LHR have several IP’s like that and still work? Will the traffic go from the agent directly to the LHR or via the B&R server?Other ideas welcome...Thanks!
Hey guys,Apart from checking the logs in program data folder, are there any other methods in veeam to get restore logs ?
Hi, Microsoft have a service alert for SharePoint Online. If you’re doing everything right, odds are you’re using modern auth for your Microsoft 365 backups, in which case, you’re using the Graph API. In this scenario, you may find you’re getting “Access Denied” errors in your backups, or even in your BAU processes. If so you want to check out SP381039. The latest information is some authentication components are missing for certain environments causing the failure. Microsoft are redeploying these components, no ETA as yet. Full output here:—-Published Time: 17/05/2022 16:40:16Title: Users may see 'Access Denied' errors when using Graph APIs for SharePoint OnlineUser Impact: Users may see 'Access Denied' errors when using Graph APIs for SharePoint Online.Current status: We've confirmed that a recent feature deployment misconfiguration has prevented components associated with the authentication feature from being available in a group of customer environments, which is producing 'Access
