The importance of testing these backups!

Hello, I wanted to share with you a customer’s feedback that I encountered. They contacted me to report extremely slow restoration times during a file restoration process.I was a bit surprise cause I had tested all types of restauration on his infrastructure and everything worked properly.The restore type : “Guest File Restore” OS: Microsoft Restore option: Keep Folder Size : 64 MB Restore Time: 1h30min 😱I first checked the log in the History I directly noticed the fact that the restoration is via vSphere guest interaction API and not using a Veeam proxy .After a brief exchange with the admin, it figured out that the VM to which the files should be restored is in a new Vlan ! You’ve probably guessed it, but it’s once again the fault of the network!Indeed, the network openings between the Veeam environment and the production environment for this new VLAN have not been set up, after having done the necessary we tried again the restore.This time, the restore used my proxy and took only f

windows 11 taking backup image of physical machine where veeam backup is installed

using the free version of veeam to start testing with, currently have it installed on a single physical machine and trying to take a backup of it, and put the backup on an external drive, or even locally on the second hard drive of the computer but whenever running, it keeps failing, doesnt seem to connect, tried to set the machine as local host or even using its ip address, fails both ways, thought maybe it needs the agent installed, right click on the machine and clicked install agent but it fails even trying to do that, its a fresh install and yes already restarted so im basically trying to backup the backup server and its not working it cant access admin$ but i can access it when going via windows

Snapshot worksor not

Hello Team,I have a question about snsapshots for ESXi and Proxmox.  I have taken some snapshots for some virtual machines.  The veeam backup can restore these snapshots?  As long as I remember, I got error with snapshots during restoring.  I deleted all of snapshots for ESXi virtual machines.Please let me know if I should not be included snapshots during taiking backup. Regards,

According to @Rick Vanover , the Scale-out Backup Repository (SOBR) is a logical entity that groups several backup repositories called extents. This is a software way to pool storage for backup data management. Backup Centos from vmware Restore to Hyper-V

I have found pervious items saying that (with Veeam) I should be able to backup a centos machine from vmware, and do an ‘instant recovery’ to hyper V.   I have tried a few times, and i must be missing something.First….Veeam 12 Backup and Replication Community EditionWith my testing, I have backed up a couple of Windows SQL machines and Centos machines (not many due to Community Edition)So as part of my last test, I am trying To backup from esxi and restore to Hyper-v.    The centos version is 7, and has 2 hard drives.Backs up just fine….I try teh instant restore to Hyper-v…..   at first it works great.  With the counsol on hyper v, I can log into the machine, and all looks good…...but when the restore finishes, i get either garbage on teh display, or it boots into emergency mode and I can’ do anything other than power cycle it.    Any idea?

When scanning for Malware Detection with Yara rules, can you see which files have Malware in which locations with Yara Rules? When I do a direct Malware scan, if there is malware, it shows the machine under the malware tab but does not give details. Morning All. We are in the process of adjusting Proxy resources as we go live with our Veeam implementation. What would be really helpful would be to see the number of disks a job processed. Proxy Selection Logic

Hi Guys, here is a good one.We have one job, protecting VMs in 2 different VMWare Virtual Centres. Each VC has its own proxies.VC1 is Netapp NFS datastores and we use Auto selection of transport mode (Direct Storage)VC2 is Dell HCI with iscsi datastores so we can only use Hot Add.The issue is that Veeam doesn’t appear intelligent enough to pick the right proxy for the VM. Its choosing an HCI proxy to protect a 3 tier VM and hence fails to NBD mode.How does the Veeam Proxy selection work ? Surely it can work out the basics and choose a Proxy in the same VC/host as the target VM, and on the same or similar network and not a completely different one.The issue is that if it can’t, we will need to split VMs into different jobs which is far from ideal.ThanksPhil

Does Veeam Backup for M365 support tenants with per device licensing?

I know the Veeam M365 licensing is on a per user basis , e.g. every customer user assigned an M365 license = 1 Veeam Backup for M365 license. But for those customers on per device licensing (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-apps/licensing-activation/device-based-licensing) , how is this handled? Can’t find anything relevant.

Change Rate Script?

This is me being a bit lazy, so apologize in advance. Does anyone have a script, or know of a VBR type report which retrieves change rate for VMs in a Backup Job? Obviously I know about VONE, but we don’t use that (maybe I can do a temp 30-day trial install...but would like something a bit quicker and temporary). I’ve run into a situation since last wk where 1 or a few VMs in a job have changed the backup rate significantly since last wk, by almost 10-fold, causing me to run out of space not only on this Job Repo, but my storage array! I’m trying to work through it, but would like to know the culprit(s) to let the app owners know to chill! haha There was a couple app VMs with updates, etc since last wk, so I have an idea a little bit of what’s going on. But, I’d like to pinpoint things a bit better.Thank you Community!

Updating VBR to 12.2 via VSPC automation

For those of you that either work for service providers or leverage a VSPC enabled Veeam Cloud Connect one of the options is to leverage VSPC to automate the upgrade of one or more Veeam Backup & Replication to the latest version. This is a great use case for a distributed organizations with multiple VBRs.If you are a end customer you will need to work with your service provider to gain access to VSPC for this process.Once you login navigate to Computers and Backup Servers. Once you select your VBR(s) you can choose Manage Updates\Upgrade Server.In the first step of the wizard I recommend that you keep the default of downloading directly from a Veeam server. Do make sure that any and all servers have at least 3x the ISO size free on the system disk to allow for download and working space. As of VSPC 8.1 Veeam will allow for saving credentials for future upgrade use but at least for this version you still have to actively provide credentials that the management agent can use to int
