After setting up our first secure linux repo at work I had the thought of adding some more at branch office locations. Initially, I wondered if it would be possible to take a raspberry pi to host the ubuntu server, but soon came to the conclusion the Veeam agent service is not likely to support ARM. I wanted something small we could drop in a locked server closet and push copies out overnight.So where I have ended up is running/testing this on my home lab: Secure linux repo setup on an old SFF x64 Celeron machine that was decommissioned with the Win 7 EOL. It’s equipped with 4GB RAM, gig ethernet, and a 5TB WD USB 3 drive. Loaded up community edition on my Win 10 Hyper V install and loaded the agent on the host desktop. Disabled IPv6 on the Veeam app server and my agent installed desktop to alleviate some veeam proxy connection errors occurring mid-job and away we go. Hi, all I am wanting to get some insight and pick you all’s brains on your best practices when it comes to copyjobs. Here’s the situation I am in:I have backups servers that have fairly complex backups schedules that range from hourly backups to daily, and even weekly backups. Lately I have been running into copyjob failures that say “the restore point is locked by another job”. This is happening when primary backup file healthchecks, merges, or defrags run. I created a topic about this, last week, and @Chris.Childerhose gave me some good insight. I guess I am at take 2, at this point, and I need you all’s input. The problem is, I have no idea how to schedule the copyjobs around these schedules...there just really isn’t a way, and consequently, i don’t know of a way to avoid these failures. Hi,  We are using Veeam to back up our on Prem HyperV VMs with no problem.  This is working like a dream.  What we urgently need to do is restore a VM to AWS EC2 that we can RDP onto.Ive tried this but when I start the EC2 instance RDP just doesnt work…. Some backgroundWe have an on-prem domain mydomain.local with two physical host servers that contain around 9 VMsThis onprem set up is also covered by Forticlient VPNIn AWS we have a VPC (for example myVPC) with a public and private subnets.  Im able to spin up new EC2 instances into both subnets and connect them to our domain and login with a mydmomain\User for example with no problem.  The issue is when restoring a VM to EC2 via Veeam to our public subnet - there is no way I can RDP to it.  Ive checked that the security group has RDP 3389 listening but no joy.  I cant imagine that Im the only person who has tried to do this????  Does anyone have any advice or walkthrough on this?  As it’s really giving me a massive headache! Many than

hi all,anybody know is it possible converted physical server to virtual VM using Veeam just like veritas backup exce. I am going to physical to virtual migration using vmware conversion tool. But when I converted my Linux server it showing booting error. if you have any other good solutions please suggest.  Thanks in advanced

We have been using VCC for two years. We keep a couple of months on performance storage and use GFS to move data to the archive storage.  The provider uses Wasabi for archive storage (news to us). We have never had the need to restore from archive until this week. After trying for two days the provider (a Veeam Platinum provider) has told us they must move the entire archive (app 160 TB , copy jobs from ten office locations) to their local repo, have us restore, and then move it back. Honestly the process is very concerning and we were never told of this.My question is has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal? Is the move of data down and back up to archive reliable (since we can’t test restores once its back there)?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since I am very concerned about the integrity of our firms cloud backups.Also has anyone moved providers? Is there a migration process or similar? Charlie

Hi, team I have a weird one for you. Have you ever seen a copyjob fail due to a normal backup running at the same time? I have been running into an issue where a copyjob is running and then a scheduled backup starts while the copyjob is running. When this happens, the copyjob will fail and throw the error: ”Source restore point is locked by another job ” My understanding is that this should not happen. I did notice that the last time it happened, there was an incremental to full backup file merge happening. I am not sure if that may be the cause in this case, but I do not believe that is always what’s happening when I see this error. The copyjob is set to Immediate with a 24x7 schedule. This server is running VBR v.11

I have a server I am running VBR 11 on. The option to rescan repositories has just outright disappeared. I have tried closing and re-opening VBR, but this did not resolve the issue. A server reboot has also not resolved the issue.

We wish to run the replica on a different IP periodically to extract data from the VM.  Hence time and again I perform failover to replica using the RE IP options within Veeam and then undo the failover. Just checking if anyone has anyone automated failover and undo failover for a Veeam replica using Powershell. 

Happy Friday! We know snapshots/checkpoints aren’t backups, but sometimes people don’t know this, and other times people forget to tidy up their snapshots. (Even worse when they don’t have Veeam ONE notifying them of this). So the question today is, what’s the longest time you’ve seen a snapshot/checkpoint in use? I’ve seen one customer environment whereby all VMs have multiple snapshots going back as far as 6 years, and counting! They’re engaged with VMware support due to the chain age and depth but they also can’t just take a backup and clear them down due to the lack of performance from the system now as a result!

Hi, is there a smart way to update attached s3 object storages. Not used in sobr(!). I am useing capa offloading to s3 on aws. in our Prodution environment (B&R Local). Thats working fine. I also attached the s3 on another Veeam B&R in VMC on AWS. I can see all backups once I attached the object storage in the repository view. Thats fine. I can do restores direct from s3 in vmc on aws. thats fine too. But ...I only do backup and offloading from B&R Local. Veeam B&R in VMC on AWS is only for restore purposes in our desaster environment. Unforunatly the attached s3 will not be update once B&R Local completet a new backup an offload. I can not rescan the object storage repository. The only way is to detach and do an import again. Thats working, its ok, but a more smart way to do a rescan during attatched s3 would be great. Thank you.

Hello community,I have an issue with a file to tape backup in combination with the usage of VSS.I have to copy the files of the RMAN Backups to tape. The backup files of the RMAN and SAP plugins are not recognized as backup Jobs with the tape jobs, so I have to copy them as files and not as jobs.The RMAN backups are running 24/7 - so there are some open files every time the copy job runs. And therefore I have activated the usage of VSS in the file to tape backup job.Every time the job runs an VSS error is given - "Shadow copy provider vetoed the operation"I did not find useful information to this error.Does anyone have some idea why VSS is not working properly? A reboot did not help. On the drive is enough free space (around 62,5 TB free of 105 TB total).

Hello, I understand that there are no a tape backup option directly in VOB, however we can use VBR, so I would like to know what is the “best practice” to archive every year in tapes.Our initial full backup took 7TB, then, because we configured 7 years of retention, we’ll keep all the messages and we’ll have around 7TB more per year, so how we can manage that in tapes if we don’t want to buy more disk? Thanks in advance, Omar De Souza.

I added a Raspberry Pi to my test lab.   I just installed their new Raspberry Pi 64-bit OS released in May 2021.    I love VEEAM Community Backup.   I can’t install the Linux client on the Raspberry Pi OS.   It would be great, if they made a client for them.   Many corporations are developing IoT devices based on the Pi.   Here is a picture of my Pi / Arduino test lab.   My website is https://mc.scsiraidguru.com/ I wished they had a $99 Pro version that home users could buy with no limitations.   I could get many users to buy it.
