Hey guys,

Can anyone give reasons on why Veeam Backup & Replication is installed on windows and not on linux?

Hi @Anandu 

Most likely a descision of veeams developing and R&D  resources.

Building a linux version will have a great cost in money.

Fully agree with @Mildur!

There are pros and cons with both platforms. At the end of the day, Windows will work fine with just one - well programmed - application running on it.

Just to add to the responses above, you cannot run “Veeam backup server or any of Veeam backup infrastructure components on Insider versions of Microsoft Windows OS (both Client and Server). This is not supported as well. 

To answer your question, I would say this is because of its dependencies with Windows components such as PowerShell, .Net framework and Microsoft Universal C Runtime etc.
