Here we go, another Friday, another Fun Friday chapter! As an architect solution, we normally develop, deploy and maintain a vast number of data protection scenarios. We often take care many backup environment and occasionally, we have contact with many technologies and professionals. So, what was the stranger thing that you saw in a backup infrastructure? It could be anything:Strange kind of deployment scenarios. Bad behavior during backup executions. People doing strange things during the project.Starting now....
Good afternoon Group. It is the first time that I am going to install veeam with a client, I have been reading a lot of the documentation and watching the how to videos, but I can't find anywhere that recommends me how to partition all the installation paths and on which disks to put the installation paths for 100 VMs. From what I've read, it would be something like this: 1.-Installation folder at least 40 GB in path A, in this path the database is installed, wouldn't it be better to install the database in another path? 2.-Write cache folder of at least 10 Gb in SSD in path B:? 3.-Guest Catalog Folder, on SSD in path D:, how much space? Hopefully someone can give me their recommendation. Thanks in advance.
Hi everyone 😊 With so much Veeamazing content being produced daily, it’s great if we can keep this all tidy. Once thing I’ve noticed recently is an increase in content that’s been miscategorised. When creating a topic, such as this one, the very first thing you’re asked is “What kind of topic are you creating?” Alt Text: Image showing the new topic layout, it asks the question ‘What type of topic are you creating?’ with two radio boxes, one labelled ‘Question’, the other labelled ‘Content’ Today I want to discuss, when is a ‘Question’ appropriate? To put simply, a question should be chosen when you are in need of a specific answer for your needs/information. This would be questions that have a specific goal in mind, and can clearly be defined. Examples include:‘How do I create a backup job to tape?’‘Where do I find the latest patch for Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365?’‘Why does Veeam keep reporting low disk space on my backup job?’‘When does Veeam plan to release VBR v12’‘What is a bac
Hi, can you help me figure out this scenario.Customer have a license for VBR version 11 with few instances. They want to backup their Azure VM’s and store the backups on their Azure blob or Azure Smb file share. So the plan is to spin a vm instance on their azure, install VBR on that new VM instance, add the license, add their VMs as managed server on the VBR, configure target backup repository as Network attached storage (SMB) or configure target backup repository as (Object Storage - Azure Blob).Note: License is for VBR version 11 and not for Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure. Now the question is, what is the proper approach for this scenario? Can we add each vm instance from their azure as managed servers to be able to backup it up or do we have to connect through Veeam backup Microsoft azure appliance? (Note: Customer does not want to deploy Azure Appliance)Is adding Azure SMB share as backup repository supported? Can I directly point my backup to my target Azure Blob repository?
Dear concern, I’m looking for a way (if even possible) to migrate a Windows Server 2012 Foundation(!) to an upgradable Windows Server 2012 Essentials or higher. Final goal is to get this system on a 2022 Essentials including all installed applications. The Server 2012 Foundation is not a DC !A direct upgrade of a Windows 2012 R2 Foundation to any other Windows Server version is imho not possible.Previous steps so far:New machine running main lates ESXi7.02 Migrate physical Server 2012 to VMware host. All test have been successful executed. Install Veeam Community main lates to the VM Backup VMNow my question concerning the restore. Will this be done to an existing VM e.g. running on a Server 2016 Essentials or even higher? What restore method will be applicable?highly appreciate your comments/hintscheers
Dear Veeam I need your help,1-I would like to know, How Veeam names each file. Exam xxx_Backup_2022-08-18T22018I refer to the last numbers. 2- I don't want to change the name of the backup job, I want to be able to edit or change the naming convention of the backup objects in the repository. like YYYY-MM-DD.
Hi Everyone, The new Veeam Legends were just announced and it got me thinking about all the effort everyone puts into the communities. I am finding it a big challenge to keep up. As an IT person you not only need to participate but keep abreast of the all the technologies and ever evolving knowledge base. I have had periods recently when I have struggled to keep up with all my commitments, social media feeds, work, life etc. What are your strategies to keep things moving and keep your sanity at the same time? I am certain that among all the very smart people here there could be some great systems, strategies that we can all benefit from.
Good morning Community!I’ve a question to you folks, based on a true story.Do you often have not enterpries customers that ask you to NOT enable backups encryption to avoid having to manage “keys” in case of recovery need? And if so, how do you handle it at the security level?Having them not encrypted need to make backup repositories super strong and access notifications enabled.But. Other than that?Do you guys have any other tips to share?
How would you configure the rule for this infrastructure and limitations.Infrastructure:HPE Simplivity - 4 nodesRunning Policy-based backups for near line native restores.Veeam Backup & Replication 11aVeeam Backup Server is a VM Veeam Backup Server is a Proxy Server Additional VM running as a Proxy Server 1x HPE StoreOnce 3650 33TB as the backup target. Wasabi for S3 Storage (25TB capacity) (No physical server in the environment) Enterprise license editionI would like to use the StoreOnce on-premise as my long and deep backup storage say 6 months and only use Wasabi for disaster with say 1 month - 2 month retention on there.Have Production VMs that want offsite, Dev and QAS can stay onsite. If I only use a Backup Job with SOBR for offsite VM’s how do I get that level of retention onsite and that level offsite.Or do I have to stretch to BCJ with SOBR, but that increases data stored on the StoreOnce as near two copies or data stored. Thanks. Appreciate any insight.
I’m trying to add an account that does not have MFA using the Veeam O365 Backup Accounts Manager. Password validation using the account password fails. Is an application password now required?

Case ScenarioLeverage Veeam VM online replication to migrate VM across different VMware environments EnvironmentVMware ESXi 5.5 (end of supported) Cisco UCS enrionment (end of support soon) Fibre Channel storage (end of support soon) VM Guest: 1000 VM Guests Data size: 200TB Target PlanMigrate all VMs into the Hyperconverged Infrastructure platform DifficultyCompatibility issues with ESXi 5.5 and 7.0 Some dependency problems exist, in-place upgrade to ESXi 7.0 is not supported Minimize the service interruption time during the VMs migration VMware ESXi 5.5 is already end of support Migration ApproachUse Veeam VBR to migrate VMs from different ESXi platform (ESXi 5.5, 6.0, 6.7) to new VM environment (ESXi 7.0). AdvantageUse Veeam SureReplica to verify the replica is health after each replication before switching over to ESXi 7.0 Use planned failover to ensure there is no data loss after switch over to new ESXi 7.0 environment. No production impact during the migration as it is agentless

Hi There!I've just shared this story in my VUG Group, Spain,But I wanted to translate it to English and share it with all of you,Its a Personal experience, Hi,I want to share with you my latest experience as a IT Infrastructure responsible, just a week before moving into a new company.August 10th 2022, enjoying my holidays, I was celebrating my birthday with my family, my mobile dings and I saw the message:“We’ve got a Virus in our Systems”I left everything I was doing, quickly went to the office to get a better understanding of what was going on, and execute the necessary actions to mitigate and solve the issue.Into my head I had the crazy idea:“Its just a joke” my colleagues are doing this to scare me and its a surprise… I was wrong. We confirmed that the virus was a ransomware called <DonkeyF*cker> and hit our servers and spread himself like gunpowder into our Servers. After a huge effort, we finally find the origin of the Infection and encryption, we took it offline, formatted
Hello everyone! It’s Friday again! Recently I saw this music video:(115) Silas Fernandes - Heavy Droids (Official music video) - YouTube At the beginning of music, we can see three sentences about AI: Artificial Intelligence is like nuclear energy - both promising and dangerous. - Bill Gates With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon. - Elon MuskThe development of full Artificial Intelligence could spell the end of the human race. - Stephen Hawking They are 3 influence and smart guys that have peculiar and interesting point of view about Artificial Intelligence. So, I would like to know about all of you… What are your conceptions about this theme?Do you have any concern about that? Let's talk about it! Happy Friday!😀🤖
Hi all!I stumbled across an older post from Tom Sightler here: https://forums.veeam.com/post137077.html#p137077The content still holds true and to summarise:If using LTO5 or older (which hopefully no one is doing for new deployments): Disable hardware compression unless your Veeam backups have compression disabled For LTO6 and newer: Keep hardware compression enabled but don’t expect big savings, maybe put 2.6-2.7 TB on a 2.5 TB media. The reason it makes sense to keep it on is the new algorithm recognises already compressed data and passes it through.
what is the best option to integrate nimble storage directly with veeam or to present it as disk on veeam servers and configure backup repository.considering backing up physical infra as well..
Hii Guys, I'm trying to find a backup to tape strategy on veeam, our company has the following two backup policies:1. Daily Policy- Backup job runs every day, job schedule starts at 07:00 PM and must be finished before 06:00 AM.- Using the Forever forward incremental method- Backup defragment is done once a week- Backup Health Check is done once a week- Retention policy is set for 30 restore points2. Weekly Policy- Job backup runs once a week, starting at 07:00 PM and must be completed before 06:00 AM.- Using the Forever forward incremental method- Backup defragment is done once a week- Backup Health Check is done once a week- Retention policy is set for 4 restore pointsHere's what I want to achieve:1. Backup is stored on tape for 1 month2. Media pool in one month is divided into 4 media sets3. Use as little tape as possible (Due to the limited number of tapes) Can someone give me some input on how to configure it to reach my target, or can anyone give me better input for my backup str
Hi Community, I have configure my secondary backup location as aws-s3 object storage. previously I used virtual tape backup to aws via aws tape gateway. Now It gave warning when backup to aws-s3. 8/17/2022 7:10:36 PM :: Using Backup Repository 1 scale-out repository extent (unable to meet data placement policy)
Hello,I have an interrogation, about how Veeam works with Forever forward Incremtal backup job and immuability.I know that’s not possible to use this kind of job with an hardened repository, even if you try to configure it, Veeam will pop up an error message. But how it work with capacity tier with object lock enabled?Veeam doesn’t transfer all data block to the capacity tier but only the new data blocks and metadata from each new backup file. (System similar to ReFS/XFS). I read the documentation about block generation but it’s not really clear in my head.If someone have a schema that would be nice.thanks
