Unable to add RHEL 8 installation (physical machine) as Linux hardened repository.

Hi All,required your help on this issue.We are trying to add a RHEL 8 installation (physical machine) as Linux hardened repository.It fails with error - Veeam transport installation fails on Linux repository. There no ports block or firewall blockingWe are working per article https://www.veeam.com/kb4250, but any other leads .

Long running copyjobs seem to "start over"

Hi, everyone I have some copyjobs that have been running for a significant amount of time due to a catchup-scenario we are in. I have noticed that on some of the jobs, it seems as if they start over. I check the jobs at some point the next day, and instead of the “Last Run” column showing days, I will see 8 hours ago, 3 hours ago, etc. The job will still be in running status. But it also looks like the job may not have started over. These jobs are immediate copy.

Veeam BR - Backup Proxy / WAN Accelerators

Hello,I would like to get our backups to be efficient as much as they can be.Current situation in production is that we are sending our backups to Synology SMB share on main site, and over WAN Accelerator to our secondary site also to Synology SMB share using Backup Copy Job (immediate copying).Currently I’m testing iSCSI on main site. I created Synology LUN and connected it to the VBR server via iSCSI with ReFS and configured Synthetical Full because of the FastClone option. Need more time to see how it will perform.Now the question is where to implement Backup Proxies and how to use it in our case.I know that best option would be to have physical server’s both on primary and secondary location.How it will benefit our sitaution?And another question is do we need to configure iSCSI also for Backup Copy Jobs or it is okay to have it via SMB and WAN Accelerator from the Main site to Secondary Site.Best Regards

Veeam: Storage Snapshots & VMware vSphere Boot from SAN – A Cautionary Tale

Today’s post is a direct result of experience in the field, and it was certainly an interesting one!I was recently working with a customer that wanted to migrate to the Veeam Availability Suite. They had an Enterprise SAN solution that they were using for booting their VMware ESXi hosts, in addition to storing their workloads on. The customer’s virtual estate was large, with some servers that were highly transactional, and a great candidate for storage snapshots.Everything was going well, until I performed the storage integration with Veeam, and hit a severe issue. after performing the storage rescan, all of the ESXi hosts within the cluster suffered a PSOD near simultaneously. I’ve certainly never seen that before, and upon asking all of my peers in the wider Veeam community and even some Veeam technical contacts, NOBODY had seen this before. Hey guys, I have a customer who has deployed veeam backup in two locations for backing up their workloads. Both veeam servers were on a different version(v11a and v11). A month ago the server running v11 ran into a issue and was cleared and I performed a patch update to make sure that they don’t run into that issue. This week we wanted to run a veeam cdp on v11a but the target server we tried to add issued a warning saying the target machine actively refused it. Does the patch update in v11 has something to do with it because this patch update has cdp support for vsphere or is it because of an issue from vmware?

Hey immutable repo ISO, do you just ruined my portable drive ?

Hi everybody. I’ve put a small blogpost togethers about an issue I experienced last week with the all-in-one ISO to create a hardenened immutable repo. This ISO was GA’ed during VeeamOn during the session of @Rick Vanover@HannesK and Christoph Meyer. (more info here ) It seems that the script is too eager to reinitialise all disks during the setup. Change socket liscenced name

Hi all and thanks for reading!!I have a socket liscencing in a host called “roma6-1”. Now, i updated the esxi and the new name of the host is “roma-linux-1”. Well, i revoke the liscence of the host “roma-1” but when i run a job, it still appears with the old name “roma6-1”, i dont know why doesnt appear the new hostname “roma-linux-1” as appears in the inventory of veeam for example. I have searched in my dns, esxi conf, idrac conf, etc. and all is fine. Id should be something cached in veem, i suppouse, but i dont know where looking for.¿Can you help me please?

Backup job doing NBD instead of SAN Direct

We just moved a couple of servers to a new volume in NetApp using its new large file/volume feature. Nothing has changed on the backup job except the volume that it is backing up. The smaller server around 3TB was able to be backed up using SAN but the other server that is approximately 43 TB is being backed up using NBD. Prior to the move, both servers are doing SAN direct. I would think that since these are both on the same volume is one has been successfully backed up using SAN the other should as well. Both servers are also in the same compute cluster and both are using the same proxies. What is causing this behavior?

SureBackup - Help with configuring and testing

I’m starting with configuration of SureBackup for our environment.I’m still pretty new to everything so it would be great if someone can assist.We have a standalone Hyper-V Host that we are using for our Virtual Lab.Few of you are already familiar with our setup but I will write it again:Backup Jobs going on primary location (Synology NAS iSCSI connection formatted as ReFS to Windows Server) Backup Copy Jobs on secondary location ( Synology NAS iSCSI connection formatted as ReFS to Windows Server) Immutable Backups on secondary location ( Running Directly on Synology NAS as a VHR - isolated ) Now I want to add SureBackup to our Backup Strategy to complete the 3-2-1-1-0 rule. Veeam Backup for Azure v5 - new features?

I am having a hard time finding any information regarding the v5 which will come this month.Does anyone have a sources for new features, compability and what we need to know?Was asked by deploy this for a customer this morning from the new v12 vbr console, but doesnt seem like the azure plugin for vbr is updated since it said you would need v11a..I just saw Veeam had a webinar for v5 2 days ago, sorry I missed that, but perhaps there is a recording?Would also be interesting to hear if Veeam backup for Azure does have a better fit than Veeam Agents for small azure customers with 1-5 vms? with veeam agents, vspc v7 and the seucre mode we can backup directly from the veeam agent to wasabi, with immuability without going through our vcc/vspc server regarding the traffic. How does VBA compare?

AMD EPYC ‘Rome’ Processors Can Crash after Nearly 3 Years Uptime

Hi everyone, I thought this was a good conversation point I wanted to share, as the more I thought about it, the more my thoughts on the subject changed. AMD have released an errata listing that details how their AMD EPYC Rome (7xx2) processors can, under specific conditions, crash. I’ve included the statement in its entirety below:I’m conflicted on this, my initial reaction was “wow they won’t fix this?!”, then I thought, well I guess it would involve a new stepping, and the chips were released in 2018, that’s not too unreasonable.The security conscious part of me thought, oh boy who isn’t patching their servers in nearly 3 years, but even that thought then pivoted to consider that actually with some of the live/hot patching options now available, OS-level patching is becoming less tied to a reboot. Fun Friday: What are you most proud of this year?

As we celebrate the completion of another rotation around the sun, it’s often a time of reflection.So I ask you, you wonderful bunch, in amongst all of your achievements this year, what are you most proud of? This could be an achievement, certification, personal life goal, bucket list item completed etc. It hasn’t got to be one single thing, in amongst so much negativity in the world, it’s great to share something positive, so ramble on as long as you need to! For me I achieved something from my bucket list this year, I flew a plane And professionally, I got to speak alongside Rick Vanover at VeeamON this year, which still blows my mind! And I got some of my blog posts published on Veeam’s official blog! All made possible by my acceptance into the #Veeamazing Veeam Legend program. Monitoring with Backup Eagle I was recently introduced to a product requiring me to do a PoC to determine if it was a viable monitoring option for my company. trying to VeeamZip a VM off of an old ESXi 5.5 with B&R 11, getting VSphere License or ESXi Version error.

Have an old ESXi 5.5.0 update 2 ver 5.77.3 host. Downgraded Veeam from ver 12 to 11, with the understanding that ver 11 supported ESXi 5.5. VeeamZip starts and quickly errors out with “Current VSphere license or ESXi version prohibits.” any thoughts?Thanks.

Copyjob Best Practices: what are yours?

Hi, all I am wanting to get some insight and pick you all’s brains on your best practices when it comes to copyjobs. Here’s the situation I am in:I have backups servers that have fairly complex backups schedules that range from hourly backups to daily, and even weekly backups. Lately I have been running into copyjob failures that say “the restore point is locked by another job”. This is happening when primary backup file healthchecks, merges, or defrags run. I created a topic about this, last week, and @Chris.Childerhose gave me some good insight. I guess I am at take 2, at this point, and I need you all’s input. The problem is, I have no idea how to schedule the copyjobs around these schedules...there just really isn’t a way, and consequently, i don’t know of a way to avoid these failures. They used to not happen. It’s only been recently that they have started cropping up. I am also working with support on this, but I would love you all’s input and get some insight into how you all ta
