Hi everyone, I have again encountered a problem related to backup using veeam backup, the error message is below.“Processing VM Linux Error: An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Too many levels of redo logs. Over the past few months, I have been studying and testing different options for secure and immutable backup storage with Veeam Backup & Replication. I tried to compare the features of the available options:Veeam Hardened Repository Object Storage Repositories Deduplicating Storage AppliancesOf course, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. The best choice always depends on specific requirements and the environment. Some products even cross traditional category boundaries, making direct comparisons even more important.I would love to hear your opinions on the advantages and disadvantages, your real-world experiences, and any corrections or additional insights you might have. In the article, I also summarized the key parameters of selected products.Any feedback is very much appreciated!Choosing a secure backup storage solution for Veeam

Dears, Greetings,I got an issue in my server as i am adding the machines as physical infrastructure.the issue is the job stuck at phase of storage initialized  then it fails after a while for windows with given error: and for linux machine it fails quickly with error  the thing is the network is fine and the connection to the NAS storage also so could you please help me in this error? Thanks,

Dear All,Let me ask for advice regarding the significant difference between the backup size and the repository size, which is causing inefficient storage usage and making it seem like deletions are not working properly. Below is my configuration: Source Backup: vMWare vCenter Destination Repository: Cloudian Object Storage Backup Frequency: Once per day Full Backup: Once per week Rettention: 7 Days Immutability: 5 days + 0 days (I modified the registry to set block generation to 0 days Capture:Rettention Policy (Job Configuration)Immutability (Repository Configuration)Results:Backup Size 5,20 TBRepository Size 15,6 TB My Opinion:Could the deletion be failing because the data is still locked by immutability at the time of the deletion? If so, what would be the correct configuration to avoid this issue? Could it be due to a failed checkpoint removal, as shown below:    Thank you for your attention. I truly appreciate your suggestions and assistance.

I currently have three separate data centers (DCs), each with its own Linux Proxy Server and Backup Repository. A single Veeam Backup & Replication (B&R) server, located in a fourth data center, manages all backup jobs across the three DCs.If this central Veeam B&R server becomes unavailable, all backup jobs across the environment would fail. To eliminate this single point of failure, I’m planning to deploy a dedicated Veeam B&R server in each data center. This way, each site will operate independently with its own Veeam B&R Server, Linux Proxy, and Backup Repository.  What is the recommended approach for implementing this setup? Will additional Veeam licenses be required for running multiple B&R servers? Once implemented, how can I migrate existing backup jobs and managed hosts from the central Veeam server to the new local Veeam servers in each data center? What is the other option for High Availability in this scenario ?

Veeam’s latest report, From Risk to Resilience: 2025 Ransomware Trends and Proactive Strategies, reveals alarming insights into the evolving ransomware threat landscape. Surveying 1,300 IT and security leaders, the report highlights:69% of organizations experienced a ransomware attack in the past year. 10% of organizations recovered more than 90% of their data post-attack. 57% recovered less than 50% of their data.Key trends include:Data Exfiltration Attacks: Cybercriminals increasingly steal sensitive information without encrypting systems. Decreasing Ransom Payments: More organizations are opting not to pay ransoms, emphasizing the importance of robust recovery strategies. Law Enforcement Impact: Coordinated efforts have disrupted major ransomware groups, but smaller and independent attackers are on the rise. Collaboration is Crucial: Enhanced communication between IT and security teams, along with partnerships with law enforcement, strengthens defenses. The report underscores the im

In my previous post, we installed the Nutanix CE in our Supermicro E300-9D server,Now, is time to config initial aspects, to then continue running and setting up our Server. This is how it looks right now:Now, we are going to go to settings, top left menu, click and select SettingsHere, on the left, we can see all settings, lets navigate through them and configure some important aspects as shown on the screenshots:I added the following details to my cluster:We already know that the CVM is the Controller VM with takes care of all aspects of our Cluster, Storage, Compression, Dedup… etc. From here, we can choose the memory size of our CVM, for now, 20GB to keep it «light» for the labPulseNTPemail alerting and digestThese were the «common» settings I normally touch / check the very beginning, now, lets jump into something super important, Inventory. This means, looking for cluster updates, software, AHV, firmwares, drivers, etc.Easy to use, Simple run an Inventory, if detects anything to be

My HelpDesk staff is in charge of removing tapes from our library. I have a Powershell script that emails them the tapes to be removed. They don’t have the Veeam B&R Console installed on their workstations. But they do have access to Enterprise Manager, from a web browser. Is there a way to export tapes from Enterprise Manager? I don’t see one. And since this is all they do with Veeam, installing the whole console is kind of overkill for them. Right now, they’re logging directly onto the B&R server itself, to do this. And I’d really like them to not log onto a server directly.

The install drive for Veeam B&R has 7.3 GB free space and there is nothing left that I can do to recover or extend the partition. I was wondering if I uninstall 12.1 would there be enough disk space to then install 12.3? I am running Community edition.

My understanding it that the best practice is to run Veeam B&R on a stand alone server, not domain joined.  It should have rdp disabled.  Veeam console should be installed on another server.  Our B&R server is domain joined.  I haven’t found any documentation on doing this type of migration.  The processes run under the local system account.  The credentials for things like vmware and storage arrays are stored in Veeam.  What am I missing that would blow up when doing this migration?  I would like to move it to a new server, not just remove the current one from the domain.  Our repository servers are windows and domain joined as well.  Should they be removed from the domain?  Seems like yes and that might be biggest issue.  Any insights appreciated.

I was inspired by several forum questions, where I would like to present, mainly for new members.               There are requirements of several level of encryption. This could be enabled onBackup level – encryption inside of backup job (for VM) (for agent is encryption on repository and for plugin is on database level) Platform level – encryption of VM should be provided Transport level – encrypted transport of backups to repository For companies of sensitive data with highest security is not enough only to have encrypted backup and VM, but as well transport of backups. Hot-Add Method               Veeam can take a snapshot and create link of snapshot (cloned VM) and attach virtual disks on Veeam Proxy. This is provided via ISCSI Hot-Add method, where backed up VM and Veeam proxy are running on the same ESX host.               This is best practice. So, the best is used with so many proxy servers as how many ESX hosts we have, because is best performance, latency of backup.

NetApp has released new All SAN Array models AKA ASA.R2 (ASA A1K, ASA A70, and ASA A90). These models will only support REST API. Veeam supports ONTAP integration only with ZAPI (ONTAPI). NetApp continues to support ZAPI and has no official EOA for it yet see NetApp doc below. I extracted a piece of this doc that says there is no firm date for EOA.CPC-00410 - Deferral of ONTAPI (ZAPI) End-of-Availability AnnouncementThis correspondence is an update to our previous announcement from February 2023, which stated the end of availability (EOA) of ONTAPI (ZAPI) in January 2024. Upon reassessment and recognizing our customers' continued reliance on ONTAPI, we have decided to prolong offering ONTAPI. Consequently, the EOA for ONTAPI is now deferred until further communication.Note: Veeam also only qualifies GA versions of ONTAP. Once the GA version is available, it will show up on our Veeam documentation site link below😀.Veeam NetApp ONTAP SupportThanks,Pete

Hi Community,I am studying a vSphere v8 course and in one of the course topics, I came across some information that raised a doubt in my mind. The information is as follows: In order for hotadd mode to occur, the proxy server must be running on the same ESXi host that the VM is running on. After researching further, I found this document https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/vmware-cis/vsphere/vsphere-sdks-tools/8-0/virtual-disk-development-kit-programming-guide/virtual-disk-interfaces/virtual-disk-transport-methods/hotadd-transport.html that, in my interpretation, says the same thing. I would like to know if anyone has anything to contribute and clarify this question. My question is, if the proxy server is running on a host different from the host where the guest VM is running, will hotadd occur? As far as I know, hotadd occurs as long as the proxy and the guest VM have access to the shared storage.

I’m using Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3 integrated with a virtual infrastructure running on Nutanix AHV 6. I have a backup job configured with Application-Aware Processing enabled to back up a SQL Server instance hosted on a VM named SRV_GESTAOX. However, when running the job, I receive the following error:17/04/2025 17:09:22 :: SRV_GESTAOX : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.  17/04/2025 17:09:23 :: Job finished with error at 4/17/2025 5:09:23 PMAs part of the troubleshooting process, I’ve already tried using the local Administrator account and tested credentials using the format hostname\username. The credentials test in the Veeam job configuration passes successfully, so authentication doesn’t seem to be the issue. What could be causing this .NET-style error, and what steps would you recommend to further troubleshoot or fix the problem?

Copy job finished with an error - Failed to perform patch of the full backup. Any reason for this?

Hi folks,I hope you are well, for the lucky ones enjoy the VeeamON.I am performing restoration tests with Veeam from a Data Domain to an Hyper-V environment in order to take advantage of Veeam's acceleration mechanisms I am using the Entire VM restoration method. But I have a doubt how Veeam process the restore when a VM have multiple disks attached. I have read the documentation:https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/hyperv/dell_dd_accelerated_restore.html?ver=120On the schema is mentionned Parallel disk restore. In the explanation :3. Every VM disk is processed in a separate task. For each task, Veeam Backup & Replication starts one Veeam Data Mover on the backup proxy. Additionaly, Veeam Backup & Replication starts Data Mover on the gateway server, but one Veeam Data Mover for all tasks.Veeam Data Mover on the gateway server reads data blocks of VM disks from the backup repository sequentially, as these blocks reside on disk. Then Veeam Data Mover on the gateway server tra

Hello everyoneI have been trying to use the lab that Veeam provides for free for a few days now, but every time I request it, no link is sent to my email so that I can enter the lab. Does anyone know what the problem is?I am requesting a laboratory through the link below.https://go.veeam.com/hands-on-lab-experience

Hello,i would like to ask, if anybody has experience, if there is different between selection of proxy server per job or per repository. Is there different between priority or some deep thing?i am just thinking, if its better to use selection of proxy per job A (same proxies for all jobs on side A) or only select proxies in affinity per repo/extent for side A?thank you

We are trying to restore a VM onto our storage, at 99% the following error appears: Failed to update VM configuration Restore job failed Error: Failed to get planned VM (ID: 8e92ff70-b052-48f4-82a0-fd......

I currently have a VBR v12 server running as an ESXI VM. Looking to move it off VMware to new hardware. Was thinking the easiest way might be to setup the new server as a Hyper-V host and then use the converters available (starwinds etc) to make it into a Hyper-V VM. Thoughts?

First of all : Wishing you a happy new year with the hope that you will have many blessings in the year to come. 1. ObjectiveThe objective of this deep dive is to detail the steps to follow to activate the Inline Malwares Detection feature.2. Introduction2.1 Description of Inline Malwares DetectionVeeam Backup & Replication 12.1 introduces a new security feature called “Encryption Detection”. It is an online entropy analysis that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to detect previously unencrypted data that becomes encrypted in processed disk images. This allows for the detection of a potential ransomware attack. “Inline Entropy” analyzes data on the fly during backups.Veeam is not intended to replace detection tools (EDR/XDR, Antivirus) that must be installed and configured on production environments, but rather complements them to facilitate forensic analysis and determine healthy backup points.Detecting data encryption as quickly as possible is a key element

I’m installing a new Veeam solution with Hyper-V. I’m not sure which proxy is best. on-host or off-host. Does anyone have any experiences?thanks

M365 Backup - What is the normal throughputI have a small mailbox backup job running at the moment, 200 users, but the plan is to expand this to 2500 users. But I only have a throughput around 15-20 MB/s. EWS throttling is disabled. Is this normal, please let me know what transfer speed you have?
