diy hosted backup

A client of ours wants to move away from using AWS S3 as a secondary backup and asked if it was possible to host their own in one of their international offices ? They effectively want to be their own cloud backup provider, has anyone done this or can suggest software that can be used etc..

Adding Azure Blob Folder

Hello, I’m trying to set up an external repository in CE12. I was able to create the container ‘backups’ and I can see it when I go through the repository wizard in Veeam BUT the wizard requires a folder as well as a container. For the life of me I can’t figure out how to create a folder in the container. Any help?

What is it aboutOne of the new v12 features will be the possibility to move backups between repositories. It’s not just new that this will be an option in the GUI, also fast cloning information will be moved. This means that synthetic fulls will not need more space on target repository than it uses on source! This feature is very useful when it comes to replacing old repository hardware with new one.How to move backup job dataIn beta there are several ways to move backups from one repository to another. Backup across separate networks/domains

The company I work for has recently taken over another, with each having its own network, domain & Veeam B&R setup. One side (A) is mostly broken from the backup side with B&R installed on an ancient server and the repository using the same storage as VMs which has quickly filled up. A & B live in the same data center, connected through their own firewalls. My first thought to fix this mess is to remove the broken B&R completely from A (remove from hosts etc) and use the working sides (B) B&R, utilising a Veeam proxy installed in A. Any thoughts or suggestions? Would the firewall only need to be opened between B&R in B and proxy in A?

Full Backups are not deleted after retention time

Hello, i'm using Veeam Backup & Replication 11 to backup a VM. This is working fine, but the order Backup-Files (vbk) wont get deleted. My Settings so far: Retention Policy: 10 days Reverse incremental Active Full Backup -Create active full backups periodically: Sunday Full backup file maintenance - Remove deleted items after: 7 days Would be great if someone can give me a hint which setting is missing

Bare-metal restore from agent backup managed by VBR fail

Hello all,I’m trying to validate bare-metal recovery of a physical Windows 2019 server.It is backed up by an Agent job in my VBR server (v11a, latest patch), with the agent installed on the host in version 5.0.3.4708. Backup works fine, file-level restore from VBR in the Windows system too.I wanted to test the “worst case scenario”, so I copied the backup files on a USB drive, created recovery media from VBR, and tried to restore on a different server (different hardware). Boot media works, but when choosing backup file, I am blocked d by the message :“Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is unable to open backup files created by Veeam Backup & Replication”It looks like the post below, but as everything was recently installed and up to date, I dont know …Am I missing something obvious ?Any help would be really appreciated.Regards.

V12 upgrade failure

Hello, We’ve tried upgrading our VBR/EM from V11 to V12 GA today. EM upgrade goes fine, but:VBR upgrade issues a warning at the beginning, requesting to… upgrade EM, although it’s already in V12 and operational. It’s just a warning though and we can continue the upgrade The upgrade then fails in the 1st step with an error “TFS354792” about a database patch missing. We also tried to completely uninstall/reinstall VBR but the installation fails at the same step with the same errorI’ve seen kb4204, but I don’t get why it fails for a completely standard upgrade from the latest level of V11 ( 11.0.1.1261 P20220302 )?We had a couple of “private” fixes installed after P20220302 for various issues with cdp, could it be related?

Migrating VBR to PostgreSQL [Part 1]

Part 1 of the small series is about to install a PostgreSQL server on a Debian system.Ok let’s start. Step 1 Install the postgres package with the package manager of the distribution.You have to have PostgreSQL at least in version 14! Strange Warning "Failed to index guest file system. VSS Control: Index failed"

Hi there,Veeam B&R 12 is installed on a Windows 2022 Server, which is installed on VMWare ESXi 6.5 U3. From there I backup our produtvie Server, which is a VMWare ESXi 6.7 with a Windows Server 2016 and a Windows Server 2012 R2 (Exchange Server) installed on it. Everything works fine, exept the backup of the Windows 2012 R2 Server. It does backup, but I receive the Warning “Failed to index guest file system. VSS Control: Index failed". Is there any way to fix this, except disabling the file indexing?

Upgrade Veeam Cloud Connect to V12

Hi @Rick Vanover already created an awesome upgrade center for V12 (V12 Upgrade Center | Veeam Community Resource Hub) but I just wanted to add a bit more about upgrading to V12 especially for Veeam Cloud Connect at the service providers. As you all know, the GA edition of V12 was available since the 14th of February.As a service provider it was already possible to install the RTM edition of V12 2 weeks before on the 30th of January.That is a normal behaviour because all Veeam customers using a service provider should wait upgrading until the service provider has upgraded their infrastructure to the new major version.Why? The upgrade is breaking, it will not work until the service provider has performed the upgrade!Therefore the service provider should always be the first and afterwards it’s time for upgrading the Veeam environment of the customers.As being a service provider for VCC BaaS I decided to not install the RTM edition, but wait until the GA edition was available.Why?
