Morning! This Fun Friday is a bit different, I just wanted to share something that makes me laugh every time it re-emerges.Has anybody heard of a turboencabulator? If not watch the video below before reading on: Back with us? Good! A turboencabulator, or retro encabulator or any other such derivation is a brilliant fictional item with some of the (IMO) best technobabble ever! A fools errand on the other hand is normally a prank to someone, asking an impossible or nonsensical task, my favourite of these is in a pizzaeria, it’s not uncommon to ask the junior to go to the fridge and get the dough repair kit. And then finally we have the in-jokes, those comments that make you laugh because you know it makes no sense. My favourites being either “Write-only memory” or if there’s any “IT Crowd” fans here, the internet! So today, I invite you to share your favourite stories, or pranks, jokes, fictional items, whatever makes you laugh! And as always, happy Friday!
Hey folks, A non tech question. How do you keep up with it all? Background. Since becoming a Veeam Legend a year ago I have made an effort to focus more on social media. I engaged Twitter and started a daily Linkedin watch. Every time I see something interesting I follow the person, I have also added a huge number of Linked in connections (nearing 1000 now!). The other day someone asked if I had not seen their post on Twitter. It was a great topic and the person knew it was of special interest to me. It became clear that I am simply not able to keep up with the constant stream of information. What do you guys do? Can you create special watch groups for important feeds? Or should I just become a linkedin/Twitter junkie a la Facebook early 2000s and if my phone dies when camping up North in the woods go into severe withdrawal ! :)
Hey guys,When adding an O365 organization to veeam backup for o365, what are the necessary privileges/permissions required for credentials in order to add the o365 organization?
Hi,I’d be interested in getting feedback from people that are already using HPE Apollo’s or other high density servers with local storage as repository server. It seems that a lot of people are currently planning to use them.what is you setup? Number of servers? Number of disks? Which type and size of RAID? Number of VM’s / source data how is your performance? do you use them only as backup target or as copy source as well? which filesystem ReFS/XFS with blockcloning/reflink
Hi thereI’ve been working on a module to make connecting to Veeam APIs a bit easier when using Python (yes I am a big fan).https://github.com/shapedthought/veeam-easy-connectComments, issues and pull requests welcome.Cheers, Ed

Dears, I have Veeam backup & replication connected to Veeam service provider console, and I would like to customize a user on VSPC to be allowed to run and stop specific jobs on VBR and not all the jobs created.Because my client wants to run some jobs manually and not periodically and I do not want him to have access to all the jobs created on VBR. Regards.
Morning all,Happy Friday! As per @victorwu’s post, vSphere 7.0 U3c is now rereleased!I’m not here to kick them when they’re down, but VMware didn’t have the best of times with vSphere 7.0, but after their divorce from Dell EMC and the subsequent pulling of vSphere 7.0U3c for quality concerns, will this release finally be worthy of the VMware name? So, my question to you all. vSphere 6.5/6.7 are end of life later this year, so if you’re still on 6.5/6.7, will this release make you look at upgrading? Or are you still unsure and want to hold out until nearer the EOL? Share your thoughts!
Can someone enlighten me on my queries? If I have to replicate the backup from Prod to DR, what will be the best approach?I believed you can install veeam in the VMware Prod only then Replicate the VM directly to the DR VMware environment, it means no Veeam Mgmt in the DR installed, but on the failback what will the approach for that? I handled other backup before, on Arcserve I must have arcserve on both sites to do the replication, is that approach is feasible to veeam? must have both veeam mgmt for prod and dr If customer have exisiting vsphere replication for critical apps. Do I need to maximize the CDP feature instead of veeam replication? Thanks :)
Afternoon everyone! Happy Friday, going for a valentines day theme today as it’s only a few days away now (REMINDER IF YOU NEED TO BUY A CARD OR PRESENT STILL!!!). So, you’re working in the technology world, you may hate it at times, but there’s a fine line between love and hate. (Except for you printers, I hate you). What was the first moment of pure joy/love you had working with tech? Or worded another way, what was your first memorable moment in tech that you found impressive/amazing? However you word it, tech has had a profound impact on our lives globally, what ignited the spark? I was writing in BASIC at a young age, and I remember the first time I started working with 3D objects/models. I think I was using DirectX 7 or 8, and I remember having some stock assets, making a terrain, creating a camera that would follow an object and programming in movement controls to the object. I hadn’t worked out how to effectively handle collision yet and stop the object from clipping through th

I set up a linux hardened repository for immutable backups. In the Backup Repository I have set the minimu 7 days as immutable. The Backup Job finished sucessfully on this linux repository. But i can still delete the backup. I have also checked in Linux directory, there should all backup files have an extension “i” to say that this file is immutable. But there is also no “i” in the directory. What am I doing wrong? Can someone help me?
Now this is just for my own curiosity. When Backup Jobs complete, Veeam runs Health Checks on the backup files to check for any corruption on the vbks. What happens if the VBR server goes offline whilst a Health Check job was in progress? Does it carry on from where it left off, or does it start the whole process again?Additionally, would it affect the vbk files in any way?
What is the best scenario in terms of recoverability than your resources?
Hi all, I’ve recently been doing a series of posts about using object storage in general but even more with the various method of doing so with Veeam. I’m not going to spam the channel with a bunch of posts but here are what I’ve posted this week.https://www.koolaid.info/getting-started-with-s3-compatible-object-storage/https://www.koolaid.info/configuring-veeam-backup-for-microsoft365-with-encrypted-object-storage/https://www.koolaid.info/configuring-veeam-backup-replication-sobr-for-non-immutable-object-storage/https://www.koolaid.info/configure-veeam-backup-replication-for-immutable-object-storage/
Does anyone use RHV? I have started to play with it a bit in my home lab including using Veeam 11a for with the RHV plugin to back things up. It is quite interesting to say the least and nice to get exposure to another virtualization system.Today I see that patch 1a has been released for RHV so it is time to update the lab and continue testing. Information found here - KB4280: Release Information for Veeam Backup for Red Hat Virtualization 1a
I got to thinking the other day and wondered if adding something similar to Kubernetes Korner for VMware or even just Virtualization to cover off Hyper-V, KVM, etc.Would this be something of interest first off and @Kseniya is this something we could do after consensus?
I was waiting and waiting for the shoes I won. All it took was for @Kseniya to pickup the phone during the Legends call last week and boom! they are here :) Minus 20 outside with snow, plus lockdown so no strutting in the clubs but at home!!! All I will wear now :) Thanks
We use Veeam Backup and Replication as well as Veeam for Office 365.Whilst we have restricted access to our Veeam for O365 server to specific backup admins, our information security team have asked if it’s possible for the auditing logs to be fed to a log server outside of our team’s reach so that we can confidently say all of these actions are logged and an admin is unlikely to have tampered with the logs.Basically, this isn’t about monitoring the backup jobs themselves, but we’re interested in recording that Admin1 opened Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange, browsed to User23’s mailbox and opened X email in their Inbox. This can be reviewed by generating the logs, but we’re interested to find out if anyone has done this/it is possible to do this on a continual basis.
I'm wondering if I'm alone with this, or if it's a widespread problem.Through the day I often get logged out of the Community or R&D forums, although I select keep logged in or remember me. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all and sometimes it only takes minutes or happens during writing a post. It's not related to a specific browser or device, nor do I delete cookies.Does anyone here experience the same?

We have a project study backup SAP and SAP HANA, High Availability from 2 Suse Hosts HA. As knew, the 2 Hosts each has local disk for store Database and log, and it work as Active and Standby Hosts. So my question is that when we installed Veeam Plug-in for SAP HANA for both hosts. Can Veeam support backup SAP HANA,HA from both hosts? If the SAP HANA, HA use VIP (Virtual IP) for access both hosts, can Veeam support backup from SAP HANA, HA using the VIP? What will the database and log backup from HA Hosts? Will it keep only 1x copy (Database and log) from Active Host or keep duplicate from Active and Standby from both Hosts?
