I have a quick question regarding enabling backup file encryption. I would like to start using this option, but not clear on how it is being used once it is enabled. It appears that Veeam B&R continues to use the selected encryption password (in my case loss protection is disabled) during backups and restores. If someone were to gain access to the NAS that I am backing up to and attempted to restore a VM, they would need to have the password to restore the VM or guest files correct? If I do a test file level restore from an encrypted VM, I am not prompted to enter a password during the restore process.Thank you in advanceDon

I used to be able to use the Veeam Agent software to back up a single physical Server 2019 server but when I went to the Veeam website last week it looks like the Veeam Agent software is no longer able to be used to back up physical servers for free. Is there still a version of the Veeam Agent software or another Veeam product that I can be used to back up a single physical Server 2019 server for free? I need to use a free solution until my organization is able to purchase another Veeam license.
Hi All,with latest version of Veeam B&R, i have a Backup Jobs (that make copy on a remote Mac Folder via SSH that ends with this warning: 23/06/2022 04:33:51 :: Failed to transfer operation summary to backup server: Failed to delete file 'C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\vMac_Files\__IP_USERNAME\Report\__IP_USERNAME_2022-6-23T4331.csv' If i go to that folder i’m able to delete the file.Any suggest? Thanks
Hey guys, I have faced this error in customer environment where backup SOBR offload to cloud failed because it shows the error “ TLS version is not permitted on this storage account”, the TLS version is 1.2. I referred some articles and they suggests to add a registry value. One article shows the following registry value details:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\Dword: AzureConcurrentTaskLimitvalue: 1 will this registry value work?
Probably you’ve heard the rumors or news already, but today Broadcom announced that it’s going to acquire VMware.https://investors.broadcom.com/news-releases/news-release-details/broadcom-acquire-vmware-approximately-61-billion-cash-and-stockI personally don’t know what to think about this, but I don’t have any positive feelings about the future of VMware. After they were split of from Dell I was hoping that things would get better, especially their quality. But now being merged with Broadcom (they’re going to rebrand as “VMware”) I’m not sure what we can expect from them. What do you say about this? Anything positive or negative about this?Update 26.06.2022:Broadcom did publish a new blog post. It doesn't contain much information, and rather feels like an answer to all the negative comments: https://www.broadcom.com/blog/broadcom-vmwareAnd the EU is going to do an antitrust investigation and could probably block the acquisition: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/06/broadcom-take
It’s that time of the IT lifecycle again, where we talk upgrades and decommissioning. On the 12th July 2022, Microsoft SQL Server 2012 will go End of Life. Not just to extended/security patch support, but completely out of support. So, why am I talking about Veeam? If you’ve got an installation of Veeam that utilised a SQL Server Express database, and you installed Veeam prior to 9.5 Update 4, odds are you’ve got a SQL Server 2012 Express database. This creates a security risk as of the next Microsoft patch cycle, scheduled for the 12th July 2022.I would also like to state that whilst this isn’t the focus of the article, if you’ve got a Veeam Backup & Replication or Veeam ONE environment that’s not running v11 yet, you really need to upgrade, as everything prior is at end of fix. Which version of SQL Server should I migrate to?Unless you are limited by the operating system support for SQL Server 2019, I don’t recommend going for anything older. This is because SQL Server 2017, whils
I am going to start a PoC for my client. My client using Apache Cloudstack. any have any idea how can i do this using Veeam backup.Thnaks

Happy Friday everyone! Thats right, this Friday I’m gonna share a fact that will likely make you sigh 😩 Did you know Christmas is only 26 weeks away? We’re halfway there again! Everyone start your Christmas shopping if you celebrate it 😆 If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice took place earlier this week, meaning every day is now slightly less bright, inversely if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, you’re through the darkest day of the year now and things are looking up! The curiosity Mars Rover sang happy birthday to itself one year after landing on Mars, making it officially the loneliest known birthday celebration. At some point your parents picked you up, put you down, and never picked you up again! Now, who’s next 😆
In this week’s episode Rickatron is back with @Madi.Cristil to recap the top content of the week. Did the break the rule this week - no! Also featured is the Who’s New and no Special Department news.
There are a lot of new PowerShell cmdlets for VBR alone - without agents and explorers. in v11 we have 1178, in v12 1334 cmdlets. So the list is too long to show here. Categories I could see:GFS scheduling options Hyper-V Surebackup/Instant Recovery CDP Tape … I have to check separately :) Application Groups OracleAnother nice feature is that we now can see PowerShell commands at the end of wizards. In older versions we saw parameters for Veeam.Backup.Manager.exe.
Hi everyone, I have problem with one of my servers who have MSQL and when the backup is finished i have this warning message “ Unable to truncate Microsoft SQL Server transaction logs. Details: Failed to process 'TruncateSQLLog' command. Failed to truncate SQL server transaction logs for instances: . See guest helper log.” I have search in official support and only find that the veeam account for backup must be MSQL administrator on that database, and to be local admin on that machine. I have make him database admin, but still i have this warning, and the hdd on that machine will be full soon. We have V11 Enterprise with support and so on, but because we are Public Enterprise we have bought this product from one Company in our Town. Can somebody give me some solution instruction step by step ?
The question may sound provoking. I asked myself during reading an article about Quantums concern about the LTO roadmap:https://blocksandfiles.com/2022/06/17/quantum-thinks-lto-tape-falls-short/For short: Capacity of tape media fall behind capacity of single disks. Also therefore tape does not fit for hyperscale that good. They need huge volumes of cheap storage. Best solution would be to use tape as very slow disk drives. And because hyperscaler use tapes within their own environment, they do not care about standards. And because they are the biggest customers for tapes, it could happen that we see a new tape technology arise. At least this is my option. What do the community think about this?

Happy Friday everyone! Today I want to talk about unique/awesome applications of technology, it doesn’t have to be useful, but just interesting! I saw this video the other day and was amazed at:How much care & detail went into this project. How unnecessary it really is, but yet I found myself in awe all the same! What was this video?A basketball hoop that you CAN’T miss with. Watch this and tell me you don’t want to give it a go?Also, as @wolff.mateus is just an NBA fan, I had to tag him in this! So, what have you seen?

Hi Veeam,Currently one of our customer using RMAN to backup there oracle database to the tape. They want to use Veeam RMAN plugin backup to the Veeam repository but the problem is they don’t want to completely stop the backup to tape. They are requesting there is any possible way to simultaneously backup their Oracle database to tape and also to RMAN plugin backup. They are having huge concern on RMAN plugin configuration. Because below RMAN configuration parameters will get updated automatically after plugin installation .CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO 1; # defaultCONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO 1; # defaultCONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS 'ENV=(OB_DEVICE=tape1)';which will lead them interupt in current Tape backup. Hey guys, can anyone tell me while creating a backup why file level backup is mentioned slower?
Hello Everyone,I am using the Veeam Service Provider Console v6 product. Because of a security audit, I must collect all activity logs from the VSPC portal. Now the VSPC portal only can show Event logs in the web UI portal and VSPC does not support pushing event logs to a log system like ELK or vRealize Log Insight. Please help me to solve this problem.Best regards,
Hey Guys, I have a scenario. So my customer environment was taking oracle backups to tape without using Veeam. Now they want to initiate RMAN backup using Veeam. After installing plug-in the configuration settings gets updated in oracle but they also want existing backup jobs to the tape to continue after veeam plug-in install. Is there a solution to this?
Does anyone have a good strategy to bring versioned file based backups from multi vendors into veeam or any other solution?

Its getting hot … and cheap !Welcome back after a longer break since the last blogpost.Meanwhile I`m one of the main responsible german counterparts for Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365. Over the last month I saw a lot of different environments with various challenges, while there is a big transformation from on-premise repositories to object storage as well.Today I want to share my experience with the community.Whenever I`m involved in bigger projects, at some point in time we have a price discussion about repository costs with the customer. With the flexibility in Veeam you can choose whatever you want as a repository. There is no „vendor lock-in“ or any risk in loosing data if you want to change f.e the backup software in future. For sure there are some pros & cons when you are choosing your object storage repository. So let me start what you need to consider and why:ConsiderationsSize (always matters...): Your very first step to start your decision journey: Please use our c
