Does anyone have a good strategy to bring versioned file based backups from multi vendors into veeam or any other solution?

Hi Jason

Do you want to import backups from other vendors to Veeam? That will not work. Veeam cannot do anything with this backups.

My recommendation, keep both backup systems. The old and the new one. And when the retention is over for the old backup solutions, power off the system.

Thanks

This is probably the best advice here as noted Veeam does not import or read other vendor backup files.

Agree with @Mildur, if you absolutely HAVE to migrate your backups (sometimes happens, leased backup repositories etc), you should restore your backups into an isolated staging space, and then back that up, labelled appropriately so you know where it’s come from and what date/time it was processed.

By the way its the same with tape-migration from one vendor to another (like Veeam). If you want to have “native” Veeam tape backups after migration, you need to restore tapes as VM respectively as machine and backup it again using Veeam. This is a huge amount of work!
