VeeamON 2023 – Recommended Sessions

A few weeks ago I started to build my agenda for VeeamON 2023 in Miami. As there’s lots of interesting content covering various topics, it wasn’t easy at all to decide which sessions to attend. With over 130 sessions, I had conflicting schedules and so had to leave out some of those. Rename Veeam server

Hello Everyone, After renaming the server, Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager did not change the target patch, so when I click on the shortcut, it tries to open a web address through my old hostname, can I change my host without deleting anything? It should be like this  https://hostname:9443 I changed the IIS site bindings, but this did not change the shortcut, when I type the correct link, I can open it on the web

VCP-DCV 2023 PASSED!

Happy Friday Community!And an even better Friday for me after passing the VMware VCP-DCV this morning. Whew! What a challenge, but with some patient studying, practical experience, and hard work, it’s passable. ReviewAs I shared in my Study Guide post from a few weeks ago, the exam has 70 questions and is 135 minutes long, which is 5 minutes more allotted time than the prior version. Unlike previous exams, I really needed most of the time to finish the questions and review my answers. I still had about 45-50 minutes left after my review. But on the last 2 VCP exam versions I’ve taken, I was able to finish and review in a little over an hour.I think part of the reason for the extra time it took me to finish was the question format. They were normal questions but several sentences long (long for sure, but not book-length). As such, those took a little time to read, and verify whatever requirements were asked for. Thankfully there was also what I call ‘standard’ questions consisting of ju

Oracle Block Change Tracking (BCT) is a feature in Oracle databases that helps improve the performance of incremental backups by tracking the changes made to database blocks.When Block Change Tracking (BCT) is enabled, the database keeps track of all the blocks that have been modified since the last backup. This information is stored in a bitmap file, which is used by backup software to determine which blocks to backup. Collaboration | Veeam B&R Telegram Notifications!!

Hi everyone,It's being a while since this idea came to my mind, I want to be notified differently that mail, more accurate and clean, my mailbox is always a mess, and I get too much mails to read them all, and start pending on critical alerts and other stuff.I put together a powershell script, a schedule task and a few things in Windows Server where my Veeam B&R V12 is installed, and I managed to receive in a telegram bot the windows events related to Veeam tasks.Very basic, Im not programming skilled or anything like that, do you want to help and contribute to improve and develop this idea?here I share what I've done and shared to anyone who wants to help, participate and use this workaround.I created a Telegram Bot with BotFather, here the link With normal steps. Veeam Amazing Object Storage Tips & Techniques Part 2

One of my roles at Veeam is to work with our Technology Alliance Partners, resellers, and customers assisting them with their object storage related questions.  Quite often I need to be able to analyze the S3 API requests that Veeam’s software sends to the object storage repository.  One of my favorite tools that I use for this analysis is S3 bucket access logging.By enabling this feature on a bucket, you will be able to capture information on all requests made to that bucket.  Requests like PUT, GET, and DELETE are all gathered and stored in a log that you specify when you enable the logging. Please Note: Not all object storage solutions support the S3 bucket access logging, so make sure that you check their documentation and/or support to verify that they support it.You can either use the interface provided by your object storage solution or you can use the AWS CLI.  In this article I will use the AWS CLI.The first step is we need a dedicated bucket to store our S3 logs in.  It is a

VMware ESXi contains Return-Stack-Buffer-Underflow (CVE-2022-29901, CVE-2022-28693) and Branch Type Confusion (CVE-2022-23816, CVE-2022-23825) vulnerabilities due to the Intel and AMD processors it utilizes.There is a resolution to this issue, and as such there is no workaround discussed in this guide. VBR Console users and roles and job notifications

At the last days I had an issue with job notifications not sent from the VBR Console after modifying the users and roles within the console.One of my clients demanded that the access to the VBR console has to be restricted to some explicitly defined backup Admins and no one else.So, I removed the local Administrators group from the list in the users and roles and added the personalized accounts of the backup admins.Fine, the backup admins can start the console and work with it, and all other accounts have no access…The next morning the admins told me that no job notifications were sent in the night. My first thought was that the colleagues responsible for the mail server and/or the firewalls had done some changes and now the backup server cannot reach the mail server. But after checking with them no changes were done and there were no dropped mails at the mail server. So, it seems that the VEEAM server did not send anything at all…I saw then that some mail from PowerShell scripts were

Broadcom acquires VMware

[What (else) is new in v12 - VII] Universal SureBackup job

SureBackup is a really great feature to verify your backup data. Up to now the selection of VMs to verify within a single job was limited. For example it was not possible to mix physical with virtual machines. There seems to be something new in v12 beta! With beta it is possible to add agent backup machines to virtual machines into the same Application Group and as Linked Jobs too.

[Quicktip] Failed Veeam Backup&Replication Upgrade

Recently I had problems by upgrading Veeam from 9.5U4 to v10. Upgrade process failed after a while. We found out, directory C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup lost its permissions. We had no change any more to enter this directory. Short answer: Antivirus software causes the problem. After disabling real-time scan, upgrade run without further issues. Antivirus software was configured according Veeam best practices.
