Speeding up Backup/Restore Jobs when Using Preferred Networks

When using preferred networks you might find your backup jobs take longer to initalise, commonly when you’ve got distributed backup components such as a physical proxy/repository and your Veeam Backup & Replication server isn’t performing any backup processing. This is because your Veeam Backup & Replication Server is also required to use your preferred networks configuration, even if it doesn’t have any network connectivity that resides within your preferred networks. This causes the job initialisation to take a lot longer than usual, and this grows even slower the more distributed your network topology and the more preferred networks you have. This is because your Veeam Backup & Replication server has to work through every preferred network match, before moving onto the rest of your network interfaces. Simulate Veeam Backup & Replication Disk I/O

Hello community! Recently, I ran into an issue where AIX backup jobs were taking longer than expected to start. After digging around, I came across a very useful Veeam KB article (KB2014) that suggests testing disk I/O to identify potential bottlenecks, especially useful when backing up to tape or dealing with performance inconsistencies. I decided to try out one of popular tools for benchmarking and simulating disk workloads: DiskSpd (for Windows). Step 1 – Install Disk Benchmark Tool Make sure you have the following installed: diskspd– Microsoft’s free disk performance tool for Windows. Step 2 – Run DiskSpd on Windows Here’s the command I used: diskspd.exe -c25G -b512K -w100 -Sh -d600 D:\testfile.dat Explanation of parameters: -c25G → Size of the test file (25 GB). This should reflect the typical size of your restore points. -b512k → Block size of I/O operations. -w100 → 100% write test (you can adjust for read/write mix if needed). -Sh → Disables hardware and software caching for ac

Hi Community, During the projects I have been working on, or in the VMCA classes I teach, I use drawio.com to make diagrams. It is a simple and free tool to use. However, the Veeam icons are not always up to date on it. So, to improve the quality, quantity and standard of the Veeam icons, I share many other formats with you.So, you can use drawio as a diagram tool and the Veeam icons in SVG format. Once drawio is open, you just need to copy and paste the desired icons into the drawio window.For those who use Visio, I’ll attach the visio stencils as well.

How to use QNAP as object storage for Veeam Backup and Replication 12.1 with Immutability Backup

NetApp ASA.R2 models will not be supported by Veeam

NetApp has released new All SAN Array models AKA ASA.R2 (ASA A1K, ASA A70, and ASA A90). These models will only support REST API. Veeam supports ONTAP integration only with ZAPI (ONTAPI). NetApp continues to support ZAPI and has no official EOA for it yet see NetApp doc below. I extracted a piece of this doc that says there is no firm date for EOA. CPC-00410 - Deferral of ONTAPI (ZAPI) End-of-Availability Announcement This correspondence is an update to our previous announcement from February 2023, which stated the end of availability (EOA) of ONTAPI (ZAPI) in January 2024. Upon reassessment and recognizing our customers' continued reliance on ONTAPI, we have decided to prolong offering ONTAPI. Consequently, the EOA for ONTAPI is now deferred until further communication. Note: Veeam also only qualifies GA versions of ONTAP. AIX job is taking longer than expected to start

Hey community, This week, I encountered an issue with AIX agent backups. I have several AIX servers running versions 7.2 and 7.3. The backup jobs start, but there's a significant delay before they actually begin—when they start at all. When they do, the throughput is extremely low, and some jobs run for over 20 hours. The most severe issues seem to occur on AIX 7.3. To troubleshoot, I tried: Uninstalling and reinstalling the Veeam Agent Creating a new protection group to ensure fresh package deployment and a new XML file However, the issue persists. Using Power Automate to Forward Veeam Community Notifications to Teams

I recently started playing around with Power Automate after a team member asked me to share the status of a daily backup job in a Teams chat. I tried to use Teams' "Get Channel Email" function, however it appears the organization has blocked that functionality. Perhaps they don't want channels filled with emails, and prefer us to use native alerting interfaces. I was left with the only option of using Power Automate, or "Workflows" in teams. I started with a simple template to forward emails to a chat, filtered it by subject line of that job's email report, and saved the workflow. This made me wonder what else Power Automate could be used for. Given my renewed goal to participate actively in the Veeam Community, I decided to start there.
