World Backup Day Blog - My 2nd story

This is my second story with backup, I will talk about my first project, it was with Veritas, however, the challenges was pretty good to gain experience.I had a project to backup Oracle DBs at oil and gas customer. The challenge that DBs wasn’t be able to be backed up. Support could not solve the problem, and I needed to sigh out the project.After troubleshooting and following KBs, I found that each DB has its own issues. One needs to setup the time and date, another needs to configure ORATAP file, and another has issues in archival logs.After fixing issue one by one, the project has been completed and signed off

Big challenge at big financial sector

I have a big challenge when a big project for Veeam was handed over to me in the middle, the project was at big financial sector, it was a migration from Networker + Data Domain to Veeam on Pure NAS storage.The first challenge was I have no choice to set the best practice, like not to backup to NAS storage, specially with huge environment with more than 30 Hyper-V host and big Oracle database.The second challenge was is to backup Hyper-V with internal policy to disable checkpoints!!!The third challenge was to backup 60TB Oracle DB with applications using same ports of Veeam to NAS storage.To overcome the first challenge, nothing to do 😂To overcome second challenge, I had to backup general VMs with Hyper-V backup jobs, and VMs with application, I had to backup them with Veeam AgentsTo overcome third challenge, I had to use Veeam Application plugin and create scale-out-repo and created 10 NAS shares to increase in parallel backup scream.

How to restore deleted backup from recycle bin at SP?

Hello Everyone,If the backup at SP is deleted, it should go to recycle bin, however restoration options is to restore it backup or copy it to removable disk to the tenent without meta data. how could copy it to removable disk and restore it without meta data?

Adding new proxy or Repo from adding proxy or repo wizard

Hello everyone,I faced a weird issue, I am not sure it’s normal or not, however it wasn’t like that before. The issue is when adding Proxy or Repo by clicking “Add New” it doesn’t work and show errors in the installation, however when add the machine in advance from adding servers, then add it as Proxy or Repo from the existing servers, it works. Please advise.

all Repo become unavailable after resync

Hello Everyone,SOBR has 10 NFS shares repos with Linux gateway, each time resync the repos from SOBR, all Repos become unavailable and I have to open each one’s properties and click finish to become available again.Any thoughts?

ESXi VMs not recognized in Veeam after async DR failback

Hello Everyone,Someone asked this question in Nutanix Forum:“We are running asynchronous Protection Domains and also employee Veeam backups of VMs. If we failover to the secondary site and then failback to the primary site, Veeam no longer recognizes the VMs in previously created backup jobs. We have to delete all the old backup jobs and set them up again. This is with ESXi hosts. Is that normal?”Didi anyone face this issue before and how to fix it?

decrease Oracle RMAN backup window

Hello Everyone,I have a challenge in decreasing the backup window for 60TB Oracle DB which takes 16 hours with transfer rate 1GB/s against Networker which takes only 10 hours.Current configuration VBR v12, Oracle RMAN plugin with 10 channels, Veeam basic compression, SOBR Repo performance mode with 10 NFS shares on Pure storage, gateway server auto.Network speed 40GB with jumpo frame enabled.

Horizon VDI & RDSH backup best practices

Hello everyone,If we are going to use Veeam to backup VDI and RDSH on vSAN cluster, what are the recommendations for RDSH and VDI (Full, linked, instant) clones backup? I think backup linked and instant clones doesn’t make sense, we can backup gold images, full clones, users profiles. I appreciate your feedback and if there is validated design document for this solution to be shared.

Backup VBR config DB on external SQL

Hello,VBR,ONE, and Enterprise manager configurations hosted on external failover SQL cluster, what is the best practice here for those SQL hosts, backup it as application-aware, or via agent, or just backup VBR configuration via configuration backup job?
