VMCE Practice Question - 2 May 2024

VeeamON 2024 Update - App Released!

Hello VUG Community -I hope you’ve had a great week and have fun weekend plans ahead.For those who are attending, VeeamON in Ft. Lauderdale is now literally just ONE MONTH away. How exciting! 😍 As I was perusing around on the VeeamON website yesterday, I thought since it was only a month away, I’d go into the Google Play Store to see if the Veeam “events” app has been released yet. Hello Community -First, let me say I apolgoize we didn’t get a recording of yesterday’s webinar. We thought we did so, but turns out we didn’t. Resize Multipath Volumes Used as a Veeam Repository in Linux OS

Happy Thursday Community! Thought I'd share another Linux process today – how to resize a Linux volume used as a Veeam Repository in Linux OS, specifically increasing its size. This also is in reference to using an array as your Volume-backed storage. Logical Volume Manager (LVM) processes won't be discussed. Additionally, though there is a process to decrease Volume sizes as well, I also won't be discussing that process either. When wanting to decrease Volume size, I highly recommend creating a new Volume of the desired size, then copy your data to it to prevent potential data corruption.As most of you probably know, increasing Volume sizes within Windows is pretty straight forward → increase LUN storage on your array, then rescan your disks in Windows Disk Manager, then Extend the Volume. It takes a minimal amount of time to perform. Within Linux, there are a few more tasks needing to be performed than in Windows to get your Volume size increased. I'll share exactly what those steps

Good morning VUG USA! 🇺🇲For those who don’t know me, I’m Shane Williford, a Systems Architect working for a customer educational entity based in the Kansas City, MO area. I have reached out to the Veeam team about starting a local Veeam User Group in the area. After a couple initial discussions, we are in agreement to potentially have our first meetup sometime this year. Are you ready??Not sure if you saw one of my comments on a previous question from last week, but if you’re following along, you know I shared in a comment I will begin posting the VMCE Practice Questions on definitive days of the week → on Tuesdays and Thursdays; then I’ll provide the answers and links to both questions on Friday. Demystifying Veeam’s Backup Copy Feature – Part I, Intro, Requirements, Limitations

One of the biggest mysteries of Veeam’s list of features in my opinion is the Backup Copy Job. On the surface, they’re easy to understand – you create a Copy Job, use some supported backup source, and copy this source VM data to a designated target to implement part of the 3-2-1(-1-0) Rule – have multiple copies of your data and/or at least 1 offsite copy of your data. Easy, right? Well, when you look under the hood of the technology behind the retention, scheduling, interval, etc. things start to get murky pretty quick, at least for me. The most difficult to understand about Copy Jobs in my opinion is how the retention algorithm works when using the GFS (grandfather-father-son) archive option. And with the changes brought to Copy Jobs with the release of Veeam v11, I believe things got worse instead of better. As such, I thought it would be beneficial to the Veeam Community for me to go through the Backup Copy process from a deep-dive perspective, and see if I can make a bit more clea

Veeam v12.1 Issues?

Happy New Year Community!Has anyone who’s upgraded VBR to v12.1… have there been any notable issues reported? I know with the upgrade, which supports upgrade of vSphere to 8U2, there is a CBT bug within vSphere when upgrading VM disks. That isn’t a Veeam issue though...rather a VMware issue. Simple fix for that is simply don’t upgrade vSphere to 8U2. 🙂 Other than that, has there been anything discussed ‘in the wild’ as it were on upgrade issues I have not yet heard about? I’d like to upgrade, but want to make sure there’s no egregious bugs before doing so. Cheers all.

VMCE Practice Question - 17 April 2024

As promised, here is the 1st new v12 VMCE practice question: You just created a few new virtual machines in vCenter Server. The new VMs have 2 disks each, one disk for OS and one for Data. Updated v12 VMCE Practice Questions Coming!

Hi Community -When Veeam Community members inquire how to study for the VMCE, a lot of us who have taken and passed the exam share our thoughts. Regardless of what we suggest, most of us at least concur on one thing → to look over @haslund ‘s Practice Test questions. They give you an idea on how to go about thinking through questions you may see on the VMCE exam.Though I still recommend doing this, you need to keep in mind the questions Rasmus created are now 3+ years old, and cover I believe Veeam v11. Some of the answers may now not be accurate. Understanding this, I thought it best for me to begin posting some more updated Veeam v12 questions here in the VMCE Study Hall. I will try to make them “exam-like”, but 1. they obviously won’t be exact questions from the exam (or, if they are, it wouldn’t be intentional since I can hardly remember things from 3 days ago, much less 6 mos ago when I took the exam 🙂 ); and 2. some will have screenshots since some questions on the exam have the

Demystifying Veeam’s Backup Copy Feature – Part III, Long-Term (GFS) Retention

If you missed the first part of this 3-part series, you can read it here. For the 2nd part, go here. This 3rd and final part in the Blog series will be a bit lengthier than the previous 2, but the extra content is worth the read. In this 3rd post, I’ll be discussing the Backup Copy Job Long-Term (or GFS) Retention Policy. For the remainder of this post, I’ll just refer to this as ‘GFS Policy’. Over the years, I’ve generally felt Veeam’s User Guides have been fantastic. The best out there, in my opinion, are the VMware User Guides, with Veeam a close 2nd. Since about Veeam v9, when Veeam really started gaining steam implementing some of their best features to date – Storage Integration, expanding their Veeam Agent offering, etc, their User Guides have seemed to start lacking some needed information. I think part of the reason is they were jamming everything into one Guide and possibly cutting some corners. They really needed to start separating some features out of the main User Guide t

VMCE - Off and running!.....

Hey Community -Let’s start off the Group by sharing some of the ways you use which best helps you prepare for the VMCE.I’ll start:For me, first and foremost, I follow the VMCE Exam Guide. From there, I go through the vSphere User Guide from top to bottom….yep, you read that correctly, from top to bottom...and read through only what I call the high-level sections of it for those sections I’m least familiar with.What is a “high-level” section? They are the sections which generally start with “About <topic/section>”, for example, About Backup, or How Replication Works, etc. I then go on to the Limitations and Considerations of each section. I rarely go through the actual install/implementation steps (these are what I consider “deep-level” sections), unless I’ve never done so in my environment or lab.After I do the above, I then go through and skim through sections of the Guide I am most familiar with just for review as there are generally quite a few detailed things I’ve forgotten.L

A few years ago, Rasmus ( @haslund ) did YouTube video walkthroughs of 50 VMCE 2020 on v11 Practice Exam questions, and graciously also posted almost all of them here on the Community Hub. To make it easier for the Community to reference them for VMCE exam practice all in one place, I have linked to each question.
