Veeam for Mac Agent - feedback/experiences

Oh no, will I now be known as the weird new guy who uses the Mac agent!? 😂 I mean...I’m sure those people exist more quantities more than one…..  😉

Great interview, and I agree about your take on AI.  I feel like it has the potential to be catastrophic if falling into the wrong hands, but with the proper securities, it can and will be vastly helpful.  For me, I liken it to the invention of the iPhone (or iPad).  I remember we had our local phone vendor in-house when the iPhone or iPad first released and everyone wanted a piece, but only a few knew how to make it work in-house, and others had to wait for the early adopters, as well as sit back and wait for developers (because we weren’t developers) to come up tools that would be useful to us.  AI is like that for a lot of folks...everyone is buzzing about it, but only a few know how to make it work for them.

Another great interview, and always fun to hear more from Chris.  And I completely agree, Data Protection and Recovery and Data Security are quickly growing together.  I don’t think they’ll fully merge, but it’ll be great to see the gap between them shrink whether we like it or not.  Best to embrace it and move forward and work as a cohesive team.

This is amazing...I didn’t realize Synology had the capability of aggregating logs like this.  Something I need to explore more in depth!

Failed to save Veeam CDP proxy: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

Hello All - was this issue ever resolved?  We are experiencing the exact same behavior as the screenshot in our deployment.   Linux CDP proxy VM is Ubuntu 22.04 LTS as well.   Interestingly, one thing we’ve observed during the deployment process - it appears that things are progressing ok and the CDP proxy starts actively listening on 6182, 33032 & 33033 … then when the wizard eventually errors out, those 3 ports are torn down and no longer are listening.  But the ports do come up for a couple of seconds. We’re at the point now of opening a case with support, but curious if your case was able to make any headway.  Thanks!  What you’re seeing with the proxy listening and then tearing itself down is exactly the same issue I had.  If it’s helpful, you can reference my support ticket as well though we didn’t have a resolution other than to build a new VM.  “Case #07127795 — Unable to Install CDP Proxy service on Linux, Failing to save because the machine actively refused the connect

CDP with 2 vcenter

Hello, you need to install I/O filter on both vcenters. And it is necessary to have the same versions. This can not be understated.  In my experience, the driver needs to be the exact same version on both ends.  If there is a minor version difference, it’ll throw errors.

CDP with 2 vcenter

Actually I have already tried to install I/O in DR site first before continuing to install I/O in DC but when I tried to install in DR I got an issue   Does VBR server need to be joint domain if my vcenter using domain too ? Because I think the issue is because of DNS   Thank you Does not have to be as long as VBR can resolve the VC and host names which might need host file entries you should be good. Host names is a great idea unless you’re certain you’ll have DNS in DR in the event of a failover.  VBR generally should not be domain joined and mine no longer is (it was until I did some major updating and topology changes a few months ago).  Also, while my vCenter is domain joined to my domain, I would not recommend using a domain-joined account for access to the vCenter in the event of the domain becoming unavailable in the event of a failover.  I’d advise to setup a new local vsphere.local account and utilize that login instead.

yeah I mean just today in my Linkedin inbox.. “sponsored” Hi Geoff.. great to meet you!!! I have reviewed your profile and you seem to be a perfect fit for our Aws Architect position”  WTF!!! I am an uber newbie in AWS, I mean yes if you want yours systems to test disaster recovery then by all means call me in and I will gladly create a disaster unwillingly :)  I get a lot of network engineering requests.  Networking is such a small small small part of my knowledge anymore.  But hey...I got a CCNA 21 years ago and nothing really has changed since then, right?

Veeam Community Discord Channel

There was a Discord that Tim Smith created as an alternate to the Veeam subreddit in case Reddit died out when they started charging for API access, but it’s inactive.  I might also suggest the vcommunity discord - info can be found at https://vcommunity.io/.  Note that none of these are official channels for support or access to Veeam information, etc.

Bad Practice vs Good Practice in a real use case

It’s amazing some of the configurations I find when I onboard new clients.  My most recent was also using per-VM jobs.  So incredibly confusing.  A couple VM’s I get because the jobs were running every couple hours, but most jobs were running daily to weekly…..so why?  Fortunately, I was migrating them from Hyper-V to VMware so we had to start new backup chains anyway.  And now they also have off-site copies.  Soon to have replicas at a DR site.

Deploying Wyebot Wireless Intelligence as an MSP

We’re in the process of transitioning over from our mess of legacy wired/wireless network products (Adtran, Cisco, Meraki, Ruckus, Dell etc) to Juniper (and keeping Meraki as a second offering).  The Juniper Mist AI is reportedly quite good at monitoring for network issues and in many causes proactively resolving them, but that’s generally on a larger scale than the WyeBot seems to target.  I’ll have to look into this...seems pretty cool.Edit:  Looks like this also works with Juniper/Mist, so this may be interesting.

Did a quick check and it looks like Mist AI users may not see a lot of benefit from Wyebot, but with a legacy networking vendor that doesn’t already have this capability, might be super useful.
