how to move virtual veeam to physical server

Hi Guys, lot of my customer has Veeam as virtual machine in VMware and using the virutal disk as repostitory (.vdmk), in my opinion - its old concept. One of my customer has new Storage Array and Physical backup server. The storage is direct connected to backup server via 10 GbE iSCSI. Is there some steps how to migrate virtual veeam (also with backup repository) to brand new physical HW ? Thx.Tomas

How long do you wait to roll out a new version into production?

I’m curious how long you all wait to update to the latest version, firmware, or software release in your production systems. For me, I would say I am on the early end of the spectrum, but I usually try and roll things out to TEST first if I can and verify for a few days. This doesn’t always work as there are times it won’t fully mirror PROD. VMware is one I’ll try and wait a little bit due to some pretty significant issues in the past I have had with host failures. Being extremely critical infrastructure downtime isn’t allowed AT ALL for us. Another thing I use to decide is the support I get. With Veeam, I have had so many good experiences I am confident they will resolve my issue. I also tend to keep my config backups and having to reinstall once or twice it’s quite doable in a pinch.

Veeam VBR in AVS

We are migrating some of our VMs to Azure (AVS) using vmware HCX. We just migrated a VBR to the AVS environment.So Veeam when Veeam tried to backup a VM in the AVS environment, we get this error: 11/14/2022 10:53:45 PM :: Processing bbbbbbVM Error: Failed to open VDDK disk [[vsanDatastore] c9d37263-be7b-37b8-2875-08c0eb40d47a/bbbbbbVM.vmdk] ( is read-only mode - [true] )Logon attempt with parameters [VC/ESX: [vc.4bc149b43878428757ed53.westus2.avs.azure.com];Port: 443;Login: [userdite@abd.lcl];VMX Spec: [moref=vm-1073];Snapshot mor: [snapshot-1084];Transports: [nbd];Read Only: [true]] failed because of the following errors:Failed to open disk for read.Failed to upload disk. Veeam Agent using VBAR, How to get JobID?

Simultaneously backup to Tape and Veeam Plugin backup to Veeam server

Hi Veeam,Currently one of our customer using RMAN to backup there oracle database to the tape. They want to use Veeam RMAN plugin backup to the Veeam repository but the problem is they don’t want to completely stop the backup to tape.They are requesting there is any possible way to simultaneously backup their Oracle database to tape and also to RMAN plugin backup.They are having huge concern on RMAN plugin configuration. Because below RMAN configuration parameters will get updated automatically after plugin installation .CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO 1; # defaultCONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO 1; # defaultCONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS 'ENV=(OB_DEVICE=tape1)';which will lead them interupt in current Tape backup. Ever wanted a Write-Once SSD? It’s now here, sort of…

Evening, Wanted to share this interesting intersection of marketing & technology, the write-once SSD. Correct this isn’t April Fools… Verbatim have announced a write-once SSD. Theres a 10 year warranty against drive failure, it uses an exFAT file system and can be read by any OS supporting exFAT, but you require Win 10/11 and .Net 4.8 to install the proprietary software to write to the drive. Somewhat unsurprisingly, there are huge caveats listed, effectively it’s not tested to destruction against experienced hackers, but a handy way to prevent accidental file deletion. Out of space on Immutable repo? chattr?

Hi Folks, I have someone who ran out of space on their Linux immutable repo, they are asking to remove immutability on the fs (chatter -i) as root. I am wondering what Veeam DB will think? and what other issues might arise. They seem to say they have done it before then just rescanned the repo?

Veeam Backup & Replication DDOSing itself - VeeamTransportSvc Port Exhaustion

Hi, Has anyone experienced VBR spinning up huge amounts of instances of a process, and consuming all RPC ports? I suspect it’s AV related due to the customer’s AV change occurring at a similar time, but we’ve got the rules in place to exempt directories and binaries. I’ve seen VBR have port exhaustion exactly once before, that was a VCC installation and the firewall was half-closing sessions and Veeam wasn’t doing a good job detecting this and freeing up ports subsequently. This scenario is different however.VBR server that is only for job orchestration (all backup & repo roles are on physical appliances, proxy & repo roles uninstalled from VBR). Server was up for less than 6 hours yesterday, and it spawned 18,000 threads of VeeamTransportSvc, all looping back to itself. But the server ran out of available ports and/or buffer space and then normal connections such as backup repository availability checks were failing, causing VBR to mark the repositories as offline, then causin

[Feature Request] More Scheduling Options for Periodic Backup Copy Jobs

Running Veeam B&R 11.0.1.1261 (11a? and fairly current)I was advised by our veeam rep to use a backup copy job to accomplish what I was trying to do. Basically:we have a daily backup job to disk with 60 days of restore points, and weekly full backups on Saturdays. I want to move a copy of ONLY the weekly full from this job to a different datastore that’s part of a scale-out repository, most specifically to use the backup copy job’s ability to apply GFS retention to what it’s copying Unfortunately the scheduling options for the periodic backup copy job leave a lot to be desired.The only option you have is “run this job every X days at Y time” - that’s it.Considering that normal backup jobs get a wide variety of scheduling options (most importantly in this case “run on specific day of the week” or “run after specific backup job”) it seems odd that none of these extremely useful options are available within backup copy jobs.Instead the only option is “run every 7 days” which means I

Test Restore to difference Host Server 2022 doesn't boot due to Key Protector Could not be unrapped

Morning All Just moving over from Hornet / Altaro to Veeam 12 Community Edition. Set up is in Production have 3 Hosts with 9 VM’s between them. Mainly Server 2016 but one Linux and one Server 2022.All backup every 12 hours onsite and then Backup copy offsite.Offsite copy is onto a different VM Host with enough oomph and memory / storage to run whole lot in an emergency although PAINFULLY Slowly.Anyhow have done a test restore and all Server 2016’s and Linux come up fine (Need a couple of re-boots to recognise new Network etc to talk properly to each other. Server 2022 comes up will not boot due to the Key Protector could not be unwrapped as obviously a different host with different TPM Etc.If I kill the VM but keep the Virtual HDDs and create a new Virtual machine with same settings it all works but is there any way round this?

Fun Friday: What’s your favourite backup/recovery tip/secret?

Happy Friday! Let’s kick off 2022 with something helpful for everyone! Have you got a tip/secret weapon that you live to use to better protect environments? Maybe it’s something to help the service desk keep tickets down, maybe it’s something that helps improve your accuracy when sizing a deployment, whatever it is share it below! Anyone that reads my blog posts will know I’m a strong believer that backup frequency shouldn’t equal your RPO, you should under promise and over deliver. You can see more on that here: I preach this to everyone. But my favourite trick to delivery an awesome recovery experience involves storage snapshots and file servers. Commonly I see organisations backing up their file server daily or twice daily. But we all have seen those pesky shared spreadsheets that are used by many people all day amongst other use cases. There’s a huge amount of data change per day on file servers and there’s always an accident or two. So my trick when the customer has a SAN that su
