I hope you’ve all been enjoying these Fun Fridays, I have nothing technical or even remotely Veeam related today, but just a funny incident from my Christmas gathering this year. I picked up my son and he swung his head forward at the same time. And now I’ll be starting my new job next week with a black eye.How bad/funny is it you ask? See for yourselves! It’s still getting darker and bruising more! Did you have anything funny happen this Christmas/year that you want to share? Comment below! And I look forward to seeing you all in the community in 2022! 🥳🥳🥳
Hi guys, I was reading the helpcenter documents on CDP and found that you should install I/O filter on cluster, is it okay install it on host?
If anyone uses backup for Azure with Veeam something to check out regarding permissions, resource groups and the backup appliance.KB4262: Restricting Veeam Backup for Azure Permissions to Resource Group
As many of you know I am updating my previous book - Mastering Veeam Backup & Replication v10 to v11. As of today the book is ready for anyone that wants to pre-order it. Please ignore the release date of May 10, 2022 as the book will be released hopefully in late January or early February and this date will change. Order below:Mastering Veeam Backup & Replication v11
Hello, ishttps://forums.veeam.com/veeam-backup-replication-f2/v8-new-forward-incremental-forever-backup-confusion-t24239.html#p125277still the thread to read when trying to decide which backup-mode we want to employ? 1 VM is a large file server with ~6-8TB where all other VMs are smaller application servers (~250GB). Anyone using VONE make note of this recent issue with SRM in VMware. See the following KB.KB4260: Object Properties Collection Task finishes with the "fail" status when VMware Site Recovery Manager is used for monitored vCenter server(s) (veeam.com)
I know there is a related topic with the same problem but that one is for version 5.0.0 There is a known problem with Windows 11 and the installation of Microsoft SQL Server where the engine will not install unless it is installed on a different drive or VHD.I understand Veeam Agent for Windows uses SQL Server technology which is probably why it fails to install.Question 1: Is Veeam working on a solution independent of Microsoft?Question 2: I installed SQL Server 2019 Express with support for local DB but Veeam Agent for Windows still fails. Is there any way to have Veeam use the existing (operational) engine instead of attempting to install its own SQL engine? I read somewhere that they are using SQL 2012 but I haven’t tried preinstalling that version.Question 3: Is there any way to trick Veeam into installing on a different drive?I use Veeam at work and have been pretty happy with this product for home use. I already temporarily installed another backup solution but would love to go
HelloHope you're all doing well these days.I work for a company in Spain and I would like to ask you about an issue I’m facing with archive offload to AWS S3 storage. We are currently performing backups on a capacity tier (AWS S3) without issues but archive tier offload is failing. If anyone is looking for version numbers Veeam has now updated the KB site with the newest CU patches noted in my previous post. Just in case you want to know what version you are on.
Hi folks, recently some KBs were pulled out. This is last one, and very helpful to anyone is having fun with Windows 11.Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows can't be started or installed after upgrade to Windows 11https://www.veeam.com/kb4259There’s already a topic about this (thanks @Chris.Childerhose): But I wanna share some more info about it, and maybe talks about Windows 11 and if it’s ready to production. I say no.Apparently there’s a problem with MS SQL LocalDB instance that can’t start automatically if system disk sector size greater than 4 KB.There’s even a Docs by Microsoft for this:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/sql/admin/troubleshoot-os-4kb-disk-sector-sizeand this is a talk about 4k sector size:https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/sql-server-support-blog/sql-server-new-drives-use-4k-sector-size/ba-p/316277 CURRENTLY MICROSOFT IS STILL INVESTIGATING. My humble advice is to at least wait a quarter before using new OS in production to get a minimum of stability i

Twas a few days before Christmas and Veeam decided the sysadmins around the world had been good all year long, they’d tested their backups, met their RPOs and had earned an early gift. Hello,I’m wondering what are you using for hardening Operating System? In my company we’re using:https://www.open-scap.org/ for Linux with profils from french cybersecurity agencyhttps://docs.microsoft.com/fr-fr/windows/security/threat-protection/security-compliance-toolkit-10 for WindowsI am convinced that hardening should be mandatory in production, don’t be afraid to deploy it with your images. It works very well for Veeam Servers.PS: You should never deploy the hardening after deploying the app, you could meet horrible bugs.
The new version of Kasten K10 (4.5.6) supports now to store persistent volumes images into VBR repositories. So, the integration of K10 and VBR gets on a new level...There are some requirements to get this working. See the new KB article for further information.https://www.veeam.com/kb4258
Hi guys, I have a query. I am planning to upgrade from v9.5 to v11, the current license which I am using in v9.5, can i use the same in v11. And please don't reply with a link which leads to upgrade to v11 which I have already read and I have a confusion which is why I am asking.
Merry christmas to all Veeam community members and all you love and care for. Have some nice and quiet holidays.A happy and good year 2022 to all of us. 🎄
Hi guys,I have a query. When configuring a replication job, we specify a repo to store replica metadata. Where is the replica metadata repo located? in source or target site?
A little help would be appreciatedWe have old VMs (Debian 8) which replicates without problems. But the replication on new VMs (Debian 9) is corrupted, half of the services like SSH or UFW no longer open. The only difference is that the old VMs are Thick and the new ones are Thin.Is it possible that VEEAM Free does not support Thin VM replication? If yes, what can I do?
Good evening folks, got a question for you, hopefully the last one before Christmas, for an “issue” I’ve got with Veeam.B&R has a job that backups a list of vms, and that’s all good. Then I add a vCenter in the structure, and vCenter updates all nodes’ certificate.Ok.At this point, B&R Console needs a refresh and it’ll see all vms as new ones.Perfect, but.Next backup Veeam will save them as full backup, creating a duplicate of the vm in the backup file.Is there any way to avoid it?
Hi all, I am using Veaam Agent on a pc with only one hard drive which has two operating systems (W 11 + Ubuntu 20.04).Is it possible to create a job to backup the complete hard disk (W11 + Ubuntu + Boot partition)?Thank you

Hi guys, I’ve been busy on a rainy cold evening: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6877314027693969408/ cost: some green balls and 2 led light-strips on 3v and then plenty of Veeam-goodies that were somewhat everywhere in the house and at our office :-)… and most important: a set of steel nerves to temper the kids while lighting up all those pens in a tree full of very breakable balls...result: priceless Feel free to use, re-use, ab-use the below pics in your own message on social media.
I had to do a quick backup of a VM today.OK, no problem I thought and hit the Quick backup menue topic for this VM in the inventory tabThe job started and I saw some disk exclusion in the job log.Mhh… I wanted a quick backup of the whole machine. Then I saw that another job than I had expected was started for the quick backup.OK, this job backups indeed on disk of the VM only….Then I recognized that this VM is associated to several backup jobs. One which backups the whole VM, one to backup one VMDK with DB Backups and on job to backup one VMDK with log backups. It’s an older setup with a database without application aware backup. So, it seems that the quick backup executes the backup job which was executed last for the VM before the quick backup is started….And you have no choice to tell the quick backup which job you want to use… Am I missing something here? Is it a bug or a feature???? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to select the job which is used for that?Or am I the only one finding
Happy Friday! Decided to post this early in the day this time. As per the subject, what is your favourite feature Veeam have ever introduced? This can be across any Veeam product and from any version! For me, it has to be SureBackup. The ability to automate backup validation takes you from “it should work” to “it WILL work”. And you can’t put a price on the amount of sleep I never lost from worrying about the backups 😉
How are you naming your backup repositories (or extents in SOBR) today?
