I was thinking about building a lab at home to play, test and learn certain topics. But as my free time is very limited and I didn't want to ruin our power costs, I came to the idea to run a lab in the cloud.Advantages:low entry costs: you pay what you use/need flexible/scalable: resources are only a few clicks away ability to create different scenarios: offsite, DR, ... new technologies = more knowledgeDisadvantages:long term costs: as long as you're using/reserving resources you need to pay for themBeing a VMware guy I've looked for ways to deploy a vSphere environment or at least an ESXi host, but unfortunately the costs were much to high. Either I would have to go with VMware Cloud or rent a bare-metal machine to install ESXi myself; both are very costly.Hyper-V on the other side is easier to deploy in the cloud, without spending too much; as long as the base system support Nested Virtualization. Today I coming here for a simple post about compression Veeam B&R. So, I take a short VM Linux running an Active Directory for this.  Below you can see a full backup with a compression set up as Optional. And now you can see the same full backup with compression option on Extreme. How you can see the duration time was decrease in almost 20 minutes when I compress backup on extreme option. The target of backup on this example is an offsite repository. It has a low bandwidth if we compare with a local one. So, when we are planning our offsite backup policy,  the extreme compression can help to get better times on your backup execution window.

If the answer is obvious and I don’t see it: sorry for my question!In a large customer setup, SureBackup is managed by script (cusomized: https://www.virtualtothecore.com/can-test-1000-vms-veeam-surebackup/). So VMs are dynamically added by a Application Group. For a long time, we put just one VM into the group. SureBackup jobs failed when this VM failed - most often because of timeout. Now we increased to two VMs per run. Now I see job is skipping second VM when first VM fails. My question: Is this a designed behavior with Application Groups? Did not find the answer in the helpcenter. 

Finally v11 is launched, but I will not stop to talk about small features and improvements For today, I found a modern (app) feature. It is about instant virtual disk recovery. Which is not new in v11, but it is new to restore a disk as a First Class Disk (FCD) in vSphere. A FCD - also called Improved Virtual Disk (IVD) - is a new disk type for modern - containerized - applications. First time sharing, so feedback is much appreciated, but please excuse my code if it’s not up to par with those who have a lot more experience with Powershell than I. I recently had a client who -- for legal purposes -- needed to restore the same folder from two month’s worth of backups. Running 61 File Level Restores in the GUI seemed like a nightmare, so he opened a case asking if there was an easier way. Unfortunately, through the GUI there’s really not an easier way, but this sounded like a perfect scenario for leveraging some Veeam PowerShell cmdlets. I soon discovered that the FLR cmdlets don’t have functionality that supports a ‘Copy To’ feature like you’d get in the GUI, so I had to leverage what Veeam cmdlets we do have and then add in some good old basic PowerShell commands to then pull the data from the mount point (C:\VeeamFLR\ by default) and move it to the target, then loop through n-number of times based on the user input.Here’s what I came up with. Hello All...We are moving from one Veeam Cloud Connect Partner to another.  We have already finished the migration.  We have disabled all of the Backup Copy jobs to the old partner and are ready to sever our relationship.  However, we want to make sure that the VCC Partner does not have access to the remote repos.  We do not suspect they will do anything but we just want to cover our bases.  I know when a backup copy job is created there is a setting to “Allow Veeam Cloud connect partner to manage this repo”.  Is it a simple matter of unchecking that box to prevent access?  Or should we completely delete the VCC partner from the service provider window?  We would like to avoid deleting them for a week or so since we still do not have 7 days of retention with the new provide so we want to option to get to that data if needed over the next week or so.  So will unchecking allowing them to have access achieve what we want?ThanksDave

Hi, greeting from newbie last month, our neighboring company was attacked by ransomware,it become worst because their datastore is encrypted too, they still use vmware 5.5 from investigation, they analyze that one server made network drives directly to the datastore,that's why ransomware is able to attack and encrypted the datastore. i want to know if it is possible to create a network drive directly? if attack the datastore is possible, I think veeam replicated server will be useless.

VBR integration for storage systems supports several useful features that optimize backup performance. Unfortunately for those systems built on the Universal Storage API (USAPI) some of those features are not yet available. One specific feature that is missing is the ability to orchestrate array-based snapshots on a secondary storage array.I’ve written a PowerShell script to be used as a post-job VBR script along with snapshot-only jobs for Pure Storage FlashArray which will replicate Veeam created array snapshots to a secondary FlashArray. It will also ensure that those snapshots are visible in the VBR console and available for recovery tasks including Instant VM recovery, Guest Files recovery, and Application Item Recovery. Download Invoke-PfaSendSnapAfterVBRJob.ps1 from GitHub. Afternoon! I raised a case with Veeam about the RTM that I don’t believe has made it into the GA in time so thought I’d mention here.Scenario:Latest Veeam v10a in a distributed deployment, with dedicated roles to each server. Attempting to upgrade to v11.Issue:When upgrading Enterprise Manager to v11 when it is the sole Veeam product installed, the main setup executable from the v11 ISO will incorrectly report that only v9.5u4b and above are supported for upgrading to v11.Workaround:After a discussion with Veeam support this is purely an issue with the main setup launcher reading an old attribute (this wasn’t elaborated on further). It is still supported to browse to the Enterprise Manager section of the ISO and run the installer from there. It will detect it is a supported upgrade path and install as expected.
