Hey folks,It seems like just yesterday that HashiCorp announced changes to the Terraform licensing plan and already there is a possible alternative on the horizon. VMCE, other exams what about the non tech preparation?

Another possible topic for a future VMCE study group 😃.We are not robots, although sometimes on a Monday morning I sure do to feel like one. I think that there are very few of us out there you can claim that our performance is always consistent. There are some people who I would term are forever 1 + 1 = 2. However, I know for a fact that I can be 1 + 1 =20 on a certain days, and before I quit drinking beer you could have stuck a random number generator in that equation for all my consistency was worth.We often hear about great athletes, artists and others talking about being in the “zone”. As I understand it this is a state where things are just flowing, complications become easy and performance is optimal. Whatever you want to call such a state we can probably all agree that there are times when we feel that we are getting the best out of ourselves and times when we are not. In other words there are situations when we are not performing to or even near our maximum capabilities. Veeam Backup & Replication + Cloned AIX Servers – Clashing UUIDs And Overriding Them

Another interesting case from the field today. I had a customer that had historically cloned the disk of their AIX platform, without any further modification. This had suited them fine for years until the Veeam Agent for AIX came along and wanted to utilise some supposedly unique attributes of the installation as the basis of its UUID.This manifested in a bizarre scenario that didn’t appear during testing, but started when the agents were deployed out to all the relevant servers. Instead of seeing a long list of hosts with the Veeam Agent for AIX deployed, I saw no more than four.As the Veeam Agents were being manually rolled out, I didn’t know yet that this was actually an issue I was seeing, but instead my first assumption was a slow rollout was being performed.It wasn’t long however before I was alerted to an issue by the AIX team. Linux Foundation 40% until July 12th

A Sysadmin Story: The cost of not updating your systems when advised, and when lives are at stake!

[What (else) is new in v12 - VIII] TAPE - NAS to Tape Job

Because we had already the option to backup files directly to tape, it was already possible to backup file shares to tape without backing it up to disk before. But this was limited at least to performance. This will be be much better in v12.Another limitation was that it was not possible to copy a NAS backup to tape. This will be available in v12.At least in v12 beta media pools are limited to Standard media Pools and WORM Media Pools.

Container runtimes are fundamental components of Kubernetes. It is responsible for managing the execution and lifecycle of containers, and it is necessary to choose and install a container runtime into each worker node in the Kubernetes cluster to run PODs. Container runtimes can be categorized into:• High-level container runtimes: CRI-O, containerd and Docker.• Low-level container runtimes: runc and crun.• Sandboxed and virtual container runtimes: runsc (from gVisor) and kata-runtime/the-runtime (from Kata Containers). The Container Runtime Interface (CRI) is the specification in charge of the communication between the kubelet and the high-level runtimes. The CRI defines gRPC APIs that allow the kubelet to interact as a client with different runtimes. Veeam v12 production backup chains upgrade interesting alert

I was doing a production backup chains upgrade, and we saw an alert for Microsoft Defender Cloud.It was because the blobs were being rescanned and upgraded by Veeam during the backup chains upgrade.   All was fine.  It's just a triggered alert that could be documented internally as nothing to worry about.

Migrating VBR to PostgreSQL [Part 1]

Veeam and Veeam Vanguard/Legends takeover Toronto!

Hey Everyone,A big evening in Toronto IT yesterday and Veeam was there. First @michaelcade and I went to Okta to take part in their Devday23 event (got some nice swag too!), then we had dinner with @Julia F Morgadoand headed to the Pre Kubehuddle meetup where I met some Kubernetes royalty! Of course everyone knew Julia and MIchael so I just used the occasion to shamelessly introduce myself :) . Joking aside I have to note Veeam/Kasten is making its presence felt! I saw no other backup vendors anywhere near these two events. Kubehuddle has  literally a Veeam invasion happening with Julia Morgado, Cassandra Farris, Michael Cade and of course humbly representing the Vanguard/Legend community me :). I believe these efforts are well worth it and are going to pay off. When people need backup in the Kubernetes community there first thought will be Veeam/Kasten!
