Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure: backup schedule not working

When a backup policy is configured in Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure, the job doesn't start automatically on a backup schedule.This is a known bug of the software and the fix requires a patch installation directly in the system. Install the fixAfter copying the patch provided by the support (patch Fix_263734_34880afcb0.zip) to the appliance (you can use WinSCP), stop the service with the following comand:# sudo systemctl stop veeamazurebackupInstall the package using the command:# sudo apt-get install /tmp/veeamazurebackup_1.0.0.261_amd64.debAfter few seconds the patch installation is completed successfully.Start the service veeamazurebackup with the command:# sudo systemctl start veeamazurebackupNow login to Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure and schedule the job. After applying the patch, the job now runs on a backup schedule.The fix for this issue is quite simple to apply and takes only few minutes.

Comparison of vSphere Transport Modes

Each time I talk to customers at installation dates or health-checks, I spend some time talking about vSphere transport modes. These are: Direct Storage Access, Storage Integration (I take this as a separate mode), Virtual Appliance and Network mode. This is a topic with a lot of facets still not widely known. Here I will try to compare these transport modes on the basis of some characteristics. Direct Storage AccessSecurity Honestly rather bad. Since production volumes are presented to a Veeam proxy host, a local admin/root can easily delete all volumes within seconds. Much better if the storage system is able to present volumes in read-only mode. Network As the name suggests, backup traffic is kept in storage network. Configuration Effort It is more complex to configure than other modes. This is also because you need to configure different layers like storage switches and arrays. You may have to configure the array with each new volumes for backup too. It could be more tricky to

Unprotected VMs - successful backup within the required RPO

Are all my virtual machines being backed up correctly and within the required RPO? Of course!I think..., or not 😉? Do I implement best practices in creating jobs?If using vSphere, do I use folders or tags or use whole clusters to add virtual machines to the job?If using HyperV, do I use whole clusters or hosts or in case of using SCVMM do I use tags? Yes, OK, that ’s fine, did I not forget a new VM giving the correct tag or putting in the correct vSphere folder?Yes it can happen to everyone to forget a VM putting correctly to the backup job (automatically or manually). CDP - Retention Policies A retention policy defines for how long Veeam Backup & Replication must store restore points for VM replicas. Veeam Backup & Replication offers two retention policy schemes:Long-term retention Short-term retentionLong-term RetentionVeeam Backup & Replication retains long-term restore points for the number of days specified in CDP policy settings. When the retention period is exceeded, Veeam Backup & Replication transforms the replication chain in the following way. [What (else) is new in v11 - VIII] Restore as First Class Disk (FCD)

Finally v11 is launched, but I will not stop to talk about small features and improvements For today, I found a modern (app) feature. It is about instant virtual disk recovery. Which is not new in v11, but it is new to restore a disk as a First Class Disk (FCD) in vSphere. A FCD - also called Improved Virtual Disk (IVD) - is a new disk type for modern - containerized - applications. Here I want to show how to query space in VBR Repositories with a few PowerShell snippets. These can be taken to check used space and compare this with restore points in VBR database. It can be used for larger environments to analyze repository space.
