Yeah for me I’d love to see an expanded set of recovery destinations, both for Veeam in general but specifically for Veeam Cloud Connect. With VCC you only have the native capability (when managed by service provider is enabled) to restore unencrypted backups to vSphere. While there would be a path here to also get to vCloud Director it wouldn’t be an integrated workflow. I’d also like to see more of those “right click, recover” options from tenant style VBR made available to VCC such as AWS or Azure.
It’s worth mentioning on this that while there was a fix released for the 7.x release 1) that release is has been considered “end of fix” since the end of 2023 and with this patch it is not inclusive of any private fixes that have been provided to you since the previous patch. If you install it and other fixes have been put in place they may remove those fixes. Please contact Veeam support if you are in this situation prior to installing.
These are all great points but remember that zero block clones on both XFS, ReFS and Object Storage are available to you for GFS. I think the term zero block goes a bit too far but expecting 2% for each GFS restore point is a conservative estimator.In regards to strategy that shouldn’t be a IT decision, at least not alone. Get with your application and legal stakeholders and see what levels of risk and compliance you need to cover dictate. More often than not these days cyber insurance is going to be the primary driver.All that being said I tend to consider the minimum having 3 months of weekly RP that are immutable and encrypted to give me a safety net for ransomware.
Hi all, I’ve been toying around with the idea of a cli tool that works with everything and is related to the other post I put up today on the Go-Veeam-Auth that does authentication for all Veeam APIs. Anyway, I’ve come up with vcli a simple terminal app written in Go, allowing you to switch between APIs with minimal effort quickly. All the authentication is set up, so all you need to do is set some environmental variables, and off you go (no pun intended). The main output is JSON, but you can switch it over to YAML via a --yaml switch. The tool only does GET requests at the moment, as I wanted to gauge the interest before committing any more time to the project. Where the power really comes in when it is coupled with “nushell” which is a data-centric approach to shells. It makes manipulating json response objects a breeze and also allows conversion to other data formats. It also has a whole module system which I go into a bit on my GitHub. Hi @MavMikeVBR - It appears, as noted in this Forum post , sending logon events to a SIEM isn’t yet feasible. It looks like Veeam is looking to maybe have a feature enhancement in a future release. Hope this helps. This is correct. As I understand it with 12.1 the goal was to get the same items you’d find in the local Windows Event Viewer from Veeam into syslog with the idea they would use that to build on in future versions.

Great post Jim! I want to write a similar article, but using a docker container for postgres instead of a straight install. I’ve been thinking along the same lines but baby steps!
@Arin for what it’s worth I’m a big fan of using a single VBR server in the secondary site instead and then leverage pools of proxies in each location to enable backups. This allows you to always have VBR in your backup site while maintaining a single instance.
I use today work labs, my own home lab and then a couple of cloud platforms myself.

Hey @Chris.Arceneaux this was tested with the latest build of v5 but should work just as well with v6. I think the Get-VBOUsageData cmdlet came in v5 so that would be the earliest version supported.

According to @rhaslund it is holders of VMCE v9 or 2020 and those that have taken the v10 VMCE course. Ah see I didn't take the v10 course just wrote and passed the exam. 😂 Sorry, I should have said or, any of those 3 things should have made you eligible. I got it from ProPartner fwiw.

@JustineP The BP guide is definitely the place to look for answers but one quick thing I will mention right off is in terms of proxy sizing. If you are doing an all in one VM with both VBR server and active proxy roles hosted together something to watch is “are you able to maintain your job window requirements?” While the textbook answer may well be to add resources or not add resources at a given threshold scale up and scale out is often the solution when you aren’t hitting your desired time frames. As long as you are meeting them I would be hesitant to dedicate more resources to it.

Hey @bp4JC one thing I always do that I haven’t seen above is to mess with the bandwidth throttle and leave the jobs in continuous mode. If you aren’t already letting them run all day every day you can set the jobs to continuous mode then go into your bandwidth throttle and while letting them run full speed over night set a window of your operation hours and choke the bandwidth down to a level that you are comfortable with. This will let your backup copy window be larger and hopefully complete.Regarding seeing this when you do the integrity checks there’s a couple things here. If your type of business can stomach it set the integrity checks to start right after the end of your job run on Friday night/Saturday morning then either turn off your weekend backup copies or maybe in your case a) go in on Friday morning of the day it’s supposed to do the integrity check and disable run on Saturday and Sunday and change the job settings to let it run for 3 days without timeout. As you may have read in Sunday’s digest from @Gostev Veeam is taking a new approach to early availability for 11a in that they aren’t going to use support as a barrier of entry. The related KB articles for both VBR 11a and VeeamONE 11a are now publicly posted with download links and early versions of the release notes. For any of you that may be using VBO on the same server, either in a lab, as a Service Provider, or by going against best practices (RTFM y’all) be aware that 5d is a requirement for 11a. If you have not upgraded to the 5d release yet it WILL break your 11a install. Oops sorry @marcofabbri, I went a little dark there for a while. Exactly what @regnor said; often you’ll see errors when using App Aware In-Guest Processing (AAIP) that are to the effect of “VSS Write not responding,” this is especially true in my experience with the SQL writers. The script just goes through and restarts the services so your next run AAIP should complete successfully.
