Better than Just VPN for the Home Lab

Hi everyone!I wanted to write today about a tool that happily surprised me and now has made my life easier, related to VPN and connectivity, its called TailscaleThe main slogan says :Secure remote access to shared resourcesTailscale connects your team's devices and development environments for easy access to remote resources.I’ll try to put it on my own words, in my use case, I’ve been using it at the beginning to connect to my Home Lab remotely from my house to my “Jump Station” over RDP, then, I started to use some advanced features:VPN Access to a single client VPN to Remote Site, to access other devices not capable to install the Client Proxy / Traffic router when Im out of the house or in a untrusted network Web central console for configurations, users creation and management. Feature Request: Develop Integration with secondary storage arrays for Infinidat/Infinibox

We are further developing some of our DR test plans and are exploring the options of using Veeam to restore VMs from the Infinidat storage snapshots.  During testing at our primary site, we can successfully restore individual VMs from the primary storage snapshots on our Inifnidat.  These storage snapshots are also replicated to the Infinidat secondary storage array at our DR site.   We’d like to be able to use Veeam to restore individual VMs from the replicated storage snapshots on the Infinidat secondary storage array.  Our reps at Infinidat advised us to contact Veeam to get this request on record and I opened case #07375492 with Veeam.  Veeam support advised that this feature was not yet supported and recommended that I start here with a feature request.  I appreciate any advice or information you can provide.  Thank you.

Failed to perform backup file verification Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

I have been going through Google the last few days trying to find an answer to my issue, but so far I have not found the answer that works.  I am getting this error message when I try to run a backup on my one and only community edition that we do not pay for support for.  Failed to perform backup file verification Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).Asynchronous request operation has failed. [readsize = 524288] [offset = 4763648]Agent failed to process method {Signature.FullRecheckBackup}.This is backing up a Cantos SMB server and Every post I have seen says to check for bad sectors, but the checks come back as “OK”.  How else can I check for corrupt data?  what other options do I have to try to remedy this?  Any tips on where to look next are greatly appreciated.

Entire VM restore from Azure to HyperV Host

Good day team, I got 2 errors on separate occasions/trials:Restoring from Azure blob/storage container to Hyper V Host C: Drive. Restoring from Azure blob/storage container to Hyper V Host  - 8/2/2024 1:44:20 PM Error    Restore job failed Error: Failed to create planned VM configuration (path: 'E:\VeeamRestored\Virtual Machines\9469f15z-4723-4eea-83a3-13f4816bc1d4.vmcx'). Job failed ('Failed to import a virtual machine. The Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service encountered an unexpected error: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. (0x80070569).'). Error code: '32768'. Any insight would be appreciated.

Ok need help here. ZERTO VS VEEAM CDP

Hi Folks, I am making a plan to try and get Veeam CDP introduced. I have used Zerto but have only used Veeam CDP in labs so far. Does anyone here have production experience with both? I am not looking for a “just boost Veeam” answer 😁. I love Veeam but honesty is always best so if there a things that still need working on with Veeam CDP no issues.

Veeam Azure error

Good day team, Trying to create a sub folder under the backup tree in container and i get this error. This blob storage is working Buexec, backups going to it etc. I also cannot move forward as i need a folder name to select.How can i resolve this?

Veeam proxy network for vSAN backups

We have a vSAN cluster where the vSAN network is physically separated on different network switches from the management and other VM networks. When configuring Veeam backup proxy for VM backups on vSAN, what interfaces or connectivity is required? What traffic flows over which interface? Is the below understanding correct or we need only one interface on the backup proxy connecting to the ESXi mgmt network? ESXi: vmnic0 - esxi mgmt  (connected to a pairA of network switches)vmnic1 - vsan (connected to pairB of network switches) NIC0 - connectivity to ESXi Mgmt (Connects to ESXi/vCenter for VM and esxi details, mouting the backup VM disk to the proxy VM)NIC1 - connectivity to the vSAN inetwork (data of the VM is fetched through this interface) Thanks,Sudhir

Differential Backups - Veeam

Hi team, We all know about the type of general backups usch as incremental, full, synthetic full, differential etcMy colleague (a veritas user) wants to move forward with Veeam. However, he is not yet conviced, he is asking if veeam can:Perform general Differential backups efficiently and easily in VBR 12.1 with easy steps Perform Differential backups on VHDX/VHD, VMDK files with retention of choiceI welcome any detailed/explanation insight here. I would love to make him a new Veeam user/believer.

I can't create replicas

I had a problem with our host server in production and I had to activate the replicas on our second backup host, later I applied permanent Failover, after reestablishing the first host that had the problem, I created replica routines from the backup host server to the main one and I applied permanent Failover, finally, I recreated the replication routines from the main server to the backup server, however, it is no longer working, an error keeps appearing that I couldn't find on the community forum. Failed to process replication task Error: Failed to create planned VM configuration (path: 'D:\9ca0c3d4671a45888343cf0b4ef75605(20)\Virtual Machines\545b475e-2040-49fe-bffb-d9133f3739f4.vmcx'). [WMI] Empty result.

How to use powershell to get VMs in a backup job that are in a folder?

Using the cmdlet Get-VBRJob I can get the backup job.  Pipping this to Get-VBRJobObject shows me the objects backed up by this job.Most of the VMs in this backup job exist in folders so all I see are a list of those folders.How do I get the VMs contained in these folder?

upgrade to 12.1 failed

Hello, Thanks, Please help!From VBAR, i got a message to update, but after that, i cannot start the console, backups are not happening any more.In addition, VeeamBackupSvc will not start. cannot run backups.I rebooted a few times, re-ran the update, it always completed without error.Note: this is my home server. the console is running local on the VBR server.Not sure exactly how to debug and solve this?   when i try to run the console, i get  From event viewerService cannot be started. Retention finished, why veeam don't remove old backup from S3

Hi,I am running some tests on a demo installation of Veeam. I have set up a job with retention and immutability of 5 days. The full backup is done on Sunday and the incremental on Monday. on 3 August the chain immutability expired but on Sunday 4 August veeam did not remove the old chain (with expired retention and immutability verified by s3 browser) how come?

I know  veeam support will only knows which logs to review but for knowledge purpose can somone  please share the log files to investigate for each Veeam component like, backup job, replication, restore, surebackup, sobr, cloud backups, proxy server, repository, tape backup etc and if any tool to investigate logs

Beware when running HPE server with ilo 5 or ilo 6

v12.1 - moving Artesca S3 bucket to another Veeam server

I’m moving an artesca S3 bucket to another veeam host. The repo is part of a SOBR with a storeonce primary target. Rescan option cant be done directly on the repo but can on the SOBR…..however it seems to fail.  I’m concerned when moving to the new server, we wont see old backups. Thoughts??

How can i remap Unstructured Data Backup Copies when the Repository changes IP-Adresses?

Hey there, we need Offsite-Backups of our Unstructured Data. Since the Backup Files are roughly 3,5 TB in Size, its impossible to get that Data to the Site directly due to slow Internet Connections. So i first configured a Secondary Target NAS for the Backup Job Onsite to get that Backup Copy onto it. I then moved that NAS to the Offsite Location, changed it’s IP and added it back into Veeam as a new Repository. Did a Rescan of that new Repo and Veeam found the Backup Data and added it. I now added that new Repo to the secondary Target in the Veeam File Backup Job and removed the first one (which was the same NAS with the Onsite IP which is now invalid). I then restarted the actual Backup Job. It created some data, finished teh Job and the new Backup Copy Job started. But here’s the problem: It completely ignores the Backup Copy already in existence on that (now) Offsite NAS and instead starts creating a whole new Backup Copy. This is absolutely inacceptable. How can i tell Veeam, that

Azure VM Backup Failing

Hi ALL,I am running VBR11 and VBAz 4.0, recently all my AzureVM backup started failing. I still have over 3months of license validity.I can no longer connect to the VBA from my VBR console only can access from the browser.We are getting the following error; "Client secret has expired. Use a valid client secret or renew the application on the Service Account Type tab.This was done however the issue still persists.My Infra is still running older systems so upgrade was not an option hence no support available.Any thoughts?

Changing the temp location for VB&R 12.1

Is there a way to change the temp location that Veeam B&R uses for the console?  We have a script that cleans out the C:\Windows\TEMP directory nightly and when it does, we can no longer launch the VB&R console.  I get an error “Access to the path ‘C:\Windows\TEMP\Veeam\$VeeamUpdates’ is denied”If I create C:\Windows\TEMP\VEEAM I can launch the console. The script is from our management software and I am not sure if changing the system variable will make a difference.  That is why I am asking if there is a way to change it in VB&R itself.Thanks

Unable to open the URL for FLR after updating our Veeam Azure appliance

Hi, we have applied the available security patches and upgraded our Veeam backup Azure version 6 to 7 Yesterday. Since then, we are unable to go to the url that the FLR creates for any of our restore requests using Veeam appliance portal. We have not made any change in Azure or in Veeam side except applying these updates. We have checked and all permission for service accounts are fine, the NSG in Azure clearly shows allowing port 443 for the worker instances vnet /subnet so we cant really think of anything else that could cause this issue. We have raised a support case with Veeam as well and they have asked us to try the worker IP address to browse to the URL that we also tried without any luck: Any advice would be highly appreciated.
