Hyper-V Backup Job Issue

I have a Hyper-V VM in TN. Our VBR is in TX. I set the backup job for said Hyper-V VM to use on-host proxy and store data to a repo local to the Hyper-V VM in TN. Started the job ~1940 CST and let it run, it was stuck on 50% completion, and stuck on hard disk 1 processing (like below) for almost two hours. I ended up stopping the job, not gracefully, but immediately. 7:41:16 PM Hard disk 1 (931 GB) 1024 KB read at 1 MB/s 01:49:24 I’m using an NFR to test this because we have a Hyper-V VM in TN that we want to bring to TX but to VMware using Instant Recovery (Instant Recovery to VMware vSphere - User Guide for VMware vSphere (veeam.com)) I was directed here for possible help. I have logs here https://we.tl/t-CHOg5OnEjz (make sure to click Agree if prompted, I tested it out using WeTransfer). If anyone could point me to the direction “why” the job froze and didn’t process the disk, I’d be grateful. EDIT: P.S. - The second hard disk processed fine.. 7:41:16 PM Hard disk 2 (931

Unable to create recovery media with Community Edition 12.1

Hi, built a new home server just in time to test the new 12.1 Community Edition. Everything seems to work fine except I can’t seem to create a usb recovery stick. When I click on Recovery Media, I get an error message that says “Cannot find backup file for <Server Name>”. I’ve created a backup on this server and it finished successfully. Anyone else run into this issue?Thanks!

M365 - Microsoft Purview Compliance Effect

More of a note about an effect I experienced using the new Microsoft Purview Compliance tool for Data Lifecycle Management and Retention Policies.We are new to M365, and are still migrating to it. As part of the setup before I started migrating, I did create a “Default Retention Policy” in Microsoft Purview for Exchange objects. I started migrating, setup Veeam M365 Backup to protect the migrated mailboxes, and all was good.As we expanded our use of M365, I reviewed the “Default Retention Policy” and learned a few more things about it. Long and short of the story, the default policy I had created was not applying to anything (for reasons undetermined). I deleted the retention policy and recreated it and all heck broke lose as the Purview retention policy applied.At this stage of our migration, roughly 1 TB of mail had been migrated, and our “every 30 minute” Veeam snapshots were keeping up easily.After the Default Retention Policy started applying to all of the migrated mail, the next

Ever wanted a Write-Once SSD? It’s now here, sort of…

Evening, Wanted to share this interesting intersection of marketing & technology, the write-once SSD. Correct this isn’t April Fools… Verbatim have announced a write-once SSD. Theres a 10 year warranty against drive failure, it uses an exFAT file system and can be read by any OS supporting exFAT, but you require Win 10/11 and .Net 4.8 to install the proprietary software to write to the drive. Somewhat unsurprisingly, there are huge caveats listed, effectively it’s not tested to destruction against experienced hackers, but a handy way to prevent accidental file deletion. What kind of storage for backup and restoration efficiency?

Hello Veeam Community, What is the trend for you to build a good repository for a large company? I’m investigating for 2021 to replace our dedup appliance, i really like the HPE Apolo Gen10 to store veeeam data on xfs!One node full HDD 50k~ 960TB, 512 gb ram, 4*25gb, xeonOne node full SSD 250k ~ 600 TB, 512 gb ram, 4*25gb, xeonThe second is expansive but could be usefull for application but very low RTO and instant Recovery DB! I want to build something focus about restore, we’r no more dupe with xfs :)

Hey guys,Now we all know the backup workflow for Veeam. During backup workflow Veeam instructs the client to create a snapshot. But I have seen in customer environments where backup jobs have resulted in failure or warnings where it says not enough space to create snapshot. What is the recommended solution for this outcome?

Entire VM restore - Veeam hallucinating hard disks - solved

I just had a situation in a customer environment where the customer complained that a restored VM had more disks than the one that was backed up before (6 instead of 5 for a SQL Server VM).The recovery was done using Entire VM Restore - User Guide for VMware vSphere (veeam.com).When restoring to the original location, Veeam prompts you that the original VM will be deleted first:At first, I though this was related to the user that Veeam uses to access vCenter no having the appropriate rights. For example, the user does not have permissions to delete the VM.But then I noticed that the additional disk to be 200GB in size. The old state the we wanted to restore only had 2x100, 2x300 and 1x500. So where did the 200GB disk come from?It turns out that the size of this disk was adjusted by the VMware team a few weeks ago (100 → 200). We wanted to restore from an older state with the 100GB still there. Could this be the reason? Does VBR leave resized disks being alone while recovering and adds
