VMCE Study group?

Hi Folks,I was wondering if people would be interested in creating a VMCE study group. I will be honest this time around I am a bit terrified of this exam. For one thing the last number of years my study focus has been on something else (I wonder what that is), I am naturally not great at these things just work double in order to try and be included in with the real smart folks 😃, plus the amount of changes in V12 will prevent me from winging it on previously acquired knowledge in older VMCEs and work experience.Obviously this would not be a “dump” zone or “point you to the answer from the test” cheating location, but instead a group creating questions, helping to understand fuzzy issues and most importantly giving support to people like me who have been petrified of exams/tests ever since kindergarten🤣. I led a CKA group study over on Kodekloud for a few Months and it was a lot of fun. Veeam Backup for Azure - Azure Files scheduling no yearly retention option

Hi All,Why does Veeam Backup for Azure (Azure Files) have no scheduling option for yearly retention?Is this in some way related to the Azure only allowing up to 200 snapshots on Azure Files? In which case would a feature like we have with VM snapshots being used to create a more traditional backup be worth thinking about if you require longer term archiving? Cheers,

Backup Cop Job - Timing - WAN Accelerators Sizing

Hyper-V and VMware Guest can System state backup and restore?

Can the Virtual server achieve System state backup? If so, is there relevant documentation and Veeam certification and actual operation? Physical server Installed Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, But company policy blocked the USB drive that can't use Bare metal recovery media. Can the Physical server achieve System state backup? If so, is there relevant documentation and Veeam certification and actual operation? When I used the server HDD from 2 months ago and put it on the existing server to test startup, the server name from 2 months ago can be recognized in the Veeam console, and the related file recovery can be restored without affecting it. Existing server backup job. Then shut down the server, put back the original server HDD, and restart. In the Veeam console, the backup can be successfully performed without the need to create a new Backup job.

Veeam backup to nas, nas backup to aws s3, restore vm from s3

my goal isI use veeam to back up my vmware vm machine to a NAS, and then I back up the backup files from nas to aws s3. Then I can directly read the files from s3 and restore the vm machine in aws.But I am currently encountering a problem. The backup from veeam to nas and then from nas to aws s3 goes smoothly, but my veeam cannot read the files backed up by nas in aws s3. Please tell me how to set it correctly.

Wow Memory Lane VeeamON 2017

Hi Everyone, As always after a move I was going through old stuff and found my lucky winner post from 2017. At the time on the Veeam Forums there was a contest to win a trip to VeeamON 2017 in New Orleans.. I was not sure whether to post or not. Fear of being laughed at or ridiculed was strong, but luckily I had managed to make a fool of myself so often during my schooling years the phobia had somewhat lessened! DR Plan - DC restore to AWS

Hi to everyone,I want to create a DR plan in AWS.Is there a way to restore a Domain Controller (Windows Server 2022) in AWS keeping all its configuration and function as AD, DHCP and DNS? When i try to restore it into the cloud, i’ve this error:Impossible join with these credential because your domain isn’t available….. Do you have some advice? Thanks.

Check and set Hardening on VBR server

Hello,I want to share with you the last script I make to get hardening configuration of the VBR server and then remediate some of them.The script need to be executed on the VBR server itself.It's built with Veeam 12.1 beta.  Using Veeam we can have various types of files. Veeam B&R – NAS Cache Metadata Movement Gets Stuck

Alt Text: Banner graphic displaying the post titleHi,Another quick hint from the field. I’ve seen on multiple occasions that Veeam can get stuck when moving metadata between cache repositories. I needed to move a batch of NAS Cache metadata to a new location, due to a change in Veeam Backup & Replication v12, whereby now it is recommended that you provision no less than 1GB of cache space per 1 million file versions, per backup job. A bit different to some of the previous ‘best practice’ guidelines of ~4GB total!As a quick side note, the Veeam Best Practice documentation now suggests 5% of the source data size as your cache size when using object, but I’m sticking to the Veeam Helpcenter documentation’s 1GB per 1 million file versions guidance, as it’s a good minimum for sizing. The Veeam Best Practice documentation doesn’t always scale well once you’ve got TBs of data. For example: At 50TB of data across 25 million files, your sizing with the best practice starts at 2.5TB of cache

Get Veeam for Azure pending updates from API

Hi all, Currently there's no indication other then on the VBA appliance itself that there are pending updates. Therefore I created a PS script which we integrated into our monitoring system (N-Central) that pulls this data from the appliance. Veeam Backup Job - Startting time I/0 load

Hello,We had 13 Backup Jobs that were all started in the same time period from 21:00 to 22:00.VBR server had 32 GB of RAM and 10 cores. It was a VM.All Backup Jobs were with single VM inside of it.Was this good approach or it was too much for our VBR Server to handle.We didn’t have any off-host Proxies and VBR Server and 60% of VMs were on the same Hyper-V host.It was acting then as only proxy for those jobs as I can assume.What would be the better approach on this?I’m still trying to grasp Veeam with his technologies as best I can..

Multiple VMs with same OS

Hello to all,As I configure a testing Job with Multiple VMs with the same OS, I can see that there is no difference in the deduplication rate in Report when I run the VM itself alone or in the Group.One more point to ask:The VMs in the Backup Copy Job are all started at the same time when the job starts.Is this how it should be or they need to be run one at a time?

Veeam Backup Server Placement

Me again with new topic 😁At the moment our VBR Server is located on the Hyper-V Host where are also the 50% of VMs that we are backing up. Without Using Off-Host proxies I can guess that all load will come to Hyper-V host which is hosting VMs and VBR also.I guess that data movers from source VM and VBR are run on the Hyper-V host itself.What would be the best practice for placement of VBR?Is it good idea then to isolate it from the VMs that we are backing up or?I can host it on some Hyper-V Host which doesn’t have productive VMs or anyAlso then our off-host backup proxy should be physical machine or somewhere where we also dont have anything?

Backup Job - Best Practices

Hello,Since I’m going trough a lot of Veeam documentation in the past few days I found that I can always improve our Backups in some ways.At the moment we have each VM in separate Backup Job: They are all run in the similar time window: 21:00 and 22:00In some Veeam documentation I read that its better to group them together because of the simplicity and I/O resources used.Can somebody give me mote info about thatDescription:All of these VMs are from 3 different hosts. 1 VM is Linux based 13 VMs are Windows Server based 2016/2019 What are your recommendations on this The largest VMs are:VM Backup FS - 12 TB VM Backup SVFS1002 - 3 TB They are both on the same host

Quick Summit Recap

I know I’m late, but spending an extra 4 days in Prague was a blast and the jetlag kicked in hard after being awake over 26 hours coming home! First off, Thanks to @Rick Vanover @Madi.Cristil @safiya @NikolaPejkova  Nikki Adkins, and everyone else for their hard work. As this was my first summit (and first time out of NA) I had no clue what to expect and a bit nervous about the trip. Everything exceeded my expectations from the hotel, the sessions, events, the venues and swag 😄! I already want to go back to EU and explore more.  The flight there was a bit rough. Having someone take their shoes and socks off and bump you with their foot for a few hours is not my idea of a good time, but I was able to keep my cool and power through. I met @Chris.Childerhose and @Matt Crape at the airport which made my trip to the hotel stress free. We were all a bit more tired than expected so the Uber instead of transit was the right call. Can Veeam Community license create Backup Copy jobs?

I’m using Veeam Community (free) license, and I want to use swapped external hard drives as offsite backup for my locally hosted repository.  But when I try to create a pruning Backup Copy job, it keeps saying I need Backup and Replication Enterprise Plus.  The descriptions I’ve read make it sound easy, but they’re all vague about what sort of license is required.  It’s like they are conflating “community” as a forum and as a license?  I absolutely cannot upgrade to a paid license.What am I missing?

Netapp snapshots created, vscan set to not scan snapshots, performance still impacted

I’m using NetApp 9.12 just a cifs smb share. I followed the instructions from veeam to create the storage infrastructure for netapp and the subsequent NAS filer. I created a file to tape job to use vss and confirm that the snapshot is being created by veeam on NetApp. I have the virus scanning to exclude the directory based on NetApp’s published kb on excluding snapshots from vscan. What is the right format of '-paths-to-exclude' in 'vserver vscan onaccess-policy' command? - NetApp Knowledge BaseUse Snapshots to backup SMB File Shares on your NetApp ONTAP system (veeam.com)With vscan enabled veeam will just stop transferring completely for long periods of time. With vscan disabled it backs up normally. How can I tell if veeam is actually using the snapshot it creates and not just trying to access the files? New VBR Server - From V11 to V12 - Transfer of License

Hello Forum,I have question about few things so that I make the change as smooth as possible.The plan is to create everything from scratch because our current configuration is really awful and time for change has come.  Current Situation is like this:VBR V11 on Hyper-V VM Subscription: Enterprise Plus Instances: 20 (13 used) Inventory: 1 Hyper-V Cluster  2 Standalone Hosts Now I need to remove everything from this server and to transfer the license to the new one Questions:How to transfer the license? How to properly remove Inventory so that I don’t have problem when adding it to a new V12 VBR server? I know that few folks had problems when attempting to add the hosts to new VBR, something stuck on the old VBR etc. I will not do a configuration backup because I want everything from scratch. Please feel free to write any other recommendations that I need to take care off.I did it one year ago but I would need the help from Veeam Legends to do it the propper way this time 😁

Backup file version mismatch: scale-out backup repository rescan is required.

Since upgrading to V12 VeeamBR (and having to revert to a snapshot due to critical error) I get this on every SOBR tier job. I have rescanned both the hypervs as well as the azure blob then ran tier job now but still get the same error every time  Backup file version mismatch: scale-out backup repository rescan is required.
