VMUG Recording – Understanding Data Protection for your VMware Tanzu Container Workloads

As part of my virtual VMUG tour, I submitted a session to the VMUG call for papers covering the subject of Data Protection for Tanzu Kubernetes workloads. Veeam Data Platform vs Advanced?

My SubscriptionsHi everyone, what is the difference between Veeam Data Platform and Veeam Data Platform Advanced?I plan to upgrade our VBR server to v12 from v11. It does have Veeam ONE on it. Orchestrator is on its own server. I assume I want the Veeam Backup & Replication ISO and Veeam ONE ISO. However, I’m wondering what am I missing out if I don’t get the “Advanced” ISO. Thanks!

Archive offload to AWS S3 Glacier error "no proxy appliances are available"

Guest OS File restore fails with ‘The revision level is unknown’

Requirement with Deduplication in windows where if you restore OS files it will not work and throws the error “The revision level is unknown”.  Seems to be with the mount server OS versus the backed up VM OS along with having the deduplication turned on.Check this article for more information - KB2776: Guest OS File restore fails with ‘The revision level is unknown’ (veeam.com)

Powershell - Exclude Teams object(s) from VBO Backup Job

Last year Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v5 added purpose-built backup and recovery for Microsoft Teams. Since then many customer and partners asked me "How can we protect all of our teams and exclude specific teams objects based on names automatically?".As there is no filter logic within the UI for the Backup Job object exclusion list, I solved this "problem" using the script down below. First we store the credentials (encrypted) in a txt file:$credential = Get-Credential$credential.Password | ConvertFrom-SecureString | Set-Content <path to secure.txt>And here's the script. Just change the values for the following variables: $organizationname Name of the tenant - Only needed if more than one is configured$backupjob            Name of existing the Backup Job$filter                    Name of the team that needs to be excluded. Broadcom acquires VMware

After they were split of from Dell I was hoping that things would get better, especially their quality. change IP address of SMB repository

I added a 10 Gbe NIC to my server hosting my SMB repository. That new NIC has a different IP address. I have a bunch of machines that backup via Windows and Linux agents and I don’t have the option to edit them from the Veeam Backup & Replication console (the Edit menu item is grayed out). Most of these machines are currently offline/not accessible. I’d like to avoid remoting into or physically going to each of these machines (so many) - how can I change the IP address of this SMB repository within VB&R console so the machines will pick up the revised repository when they come back online to perform a backup?

Specific VM Slow to Begin Boot After Restore

Greetings. I have an on-prem Windows Server 2019 Datacenter with the Hyper-V Role enabled running about 10 VMs. I was applying an update to one of the VMs, a Windows Server 2016 running Exchange 2016. The update, CU23, failed, forcing me to restore the machine. Prior to the attempted update I had VeeamZipped it from the B&R 11A CE panel, and so I  launched the restore from there. After restoration I had quite a bit of troubleshooting to do to get mail flow back but I was completely successful.The remaining issue is this: Upon VM startup, there is a long pause, 3 full minutes, during which I see the expected black screen with “Hyper-V” logo smack in the middle, but it sits there doing absolutely nothing I can see. No circle of dots, just the Hyper-V text. After 3 minutes the circling dots begin and I have desktop in about 30 seconds. and everything runs normally. The disk layout is the usual Recovery, EFI and OS partitions.Has anyone run into anything similar? Thanks for any thought

When to use Planned Failover 👀

  If you know that your primary VMs are about to go offline, you can proactively switch the workload to their replicas. A planned failover is smooth manual switching from a primary VM to its replica with minimum interrupting in operation. You can use the planned failover, for example, if you plan to perform datacenter migration, maintenance or software upgrade of the primary VMs. You can also perform planned failover if you have an advance notice of a disaster approaching that will require taking the primary servers offline.When you start the planned failover, Veeam Backup & Replication performs the following steps:The failover process triggers the replication job to perform an incremental replication run and copy the un-replicated changes to the replica. Oracle Block Change Tracking (BCT) is a feature in Oracle databases that helps improve the performance of incremental backups by tracking the changes made to database blocks.When Block Change Tracking (BCT) is enabled, the database keeps track of all the blocks that have been modified since the last backup. This information is stored in a bitmap file, which is used by backup software to determine which blocks to backup. VMCE 2021/VMCA 2022 Expiration

Hi, Possibly a question for @Federica or @haslund. As the VMCE & VMCA are yet to have their new exam & certification released, willl there be an extension to the expiry of the current VMCE & VMCAs?For example:I sat my VMCE 2021 in June 2021, my VMCE states it expires the 9th June 2023. Likewise I sat my VMCA in September 2021, and my VMCA states it expires the 1st September 2023. I’m conscious that this looks like it’s just an automation, but as we’re a VASP, and our ProPartner portal is showing this imminent expiry, that it could reflect badly on my organisation if my certifications have ‘expired’ even if there isn’t a replacement certification available. A second question on this, after the 2023 grade exams are available, how long will we have to upgrade before the certifications are counted as ‘expired’ within ProPartner? Thanks!

One of the things that we have in all our projects and backup environments are Backups Jobs.After deploying all components and servers on our Veeam infrastructure, the first thing that we do is the creation of our backup jobs.Thinking of that, I write this post telling you what is the main nomenclatures that I’ve been used on my Veeam Backup & Replication. B2D - Backup to DiskBackup jobs that we use to send data to any disk repository. B2T - Backup to TapeBackup jobs that we use to send data to tape libraries. B2C - Backup to CloudBackup jobs that we use to send data to cloud. On V11 we need a SOBR to send data to public cloud like AWS, Azure and GCP.
