Veeam Utilities 🤓 Veeam Backup Validator

Did you know that there is a very useful Veeam tool to validate the integrity of your backups? In some cases, a backup can get corrupted due to accidental changes in the backup file data. For example, the file can be damaged after transfer over the network or from hardware failures on the backup storage side. With Veeam Backup Validator, you can quickly verify the integrity of any backup file, without extracting the VM data from the archive.Veeam Backup Validator is a command-prompt CRC check utility that tests a backup at the file level. For integrity validation, Veeam Backup Validator uses the checksum algorithm. When Veeam Backup & Replication creates a backup of a VM, it calculates a checksum for every data block in the backup file and attaches these checksums to the data blocks. Veeam Backup Validator re-calculates checksums for data blocks and compares them against the initial checksum values. If the results match, the backup file is viable. Office 365 backup Teams vs. backup mailboxes

Hi, I have configured a backup job on all Teams and on first run, i am alerted the mailbox is already being protected by another job. 11-12-2020 11:04:59 :: Processing mailbox XXX completed with warning: Mailbox is already processed by another job This is correct, as i have a backup job doing backup of all mailboxes every 4 hours. What is best pracgtice? To do complete Teams backup including the mailbox in one job, and on another job do all my mailboxes and exclude the Teams mailboxes? As of now where i have the Teams mailbox backup done by another job, how would a Team site restore be done? RegardsRobert

Yes, Veeam can! (sorry for this pun)Question arose today and I thought this is could be interesting to share: Is it possible to copy a backup copy job? So can a backup copy job use a backup copy job as source job? Yes and no. It is not possible to select the copy backup job directly. But it is possible to select the repository, the (second) copy job searches for backup data. How to create a copy copy job:Start the New Backup Copy Job wizard and enter a name. Here it is required to use Periodic copy (pruning) Copy mode! Note: Source copy backup job can also use Immediate copy (mirroring) mode. On next step, press Add… → From backups... and select the job you want to copy second time.It is important to do so, otherwise, selected source repository (next step) will be ignored!Press Source… and select the repository, the first copy job uses as target. Veeam Backup for Office 365 V5 Show stopping bug

Morning Guys, So like a lot of you we’ve been playing with Veeam Backup for Office 365 v5 and deploying the updates on our services and for our customers, we’re catching a bug fairly frequently that is having major consequences. The Veeam Repository isn’t able to upgrade, which is a requirement for the subsequent backups to run, causing immediate backup issues. We’ve engaged with Veeam support and been informed that there’s a hotfix, but that hotfix has also caused issues it appears and jobs are still failing to run. Just wanted to advise prior to everyone upgrading their productions, it might be worth waiting for a few more days… Thanks!

Slow VM snapshot deletion on NFS volumes on ESXi hosts

Because VMware snapshots is always a topic for backups, I want to share my latest experiences with VM-snapshots on NFS. I had to troubleshoot a problem with system time within a VMware vSphere VM. During backup VM freezes for more than 30 seconds. When this happens, system time in VM also stops and resets to current time after the freeze. And this behavior causes massive problems in the application-layer. During troubleshooting we found a very slow VM snapshot deletion on NFS volumes on ESXi hosts.EnvironmentIn this setup, we were running:HPE SimpliVity Hyper-converged infrastructure running in current Version. Notice: SimpliVity uses NFS v3 to present volumes to their hosts. VMware vSphere 6.7 in quite current version. Current Version of Veeam Backup and Replication.SymptomsSlow VM snapshot deletion on NFS volumes on ESXi hosts. Snapshot removal of comparable VMs, running on block storage last about 1-2 seconds.
