  If you know that your primary VMs are about to go offline, you can proactively switch the workload to their replicas. A planned failover is smooth manual switching from a primary VM to its replica with minimum interrupting in operation. You can use the planned failover, for example, if you plan to perform datacenter migration, maintenance or software upgrade of the primary VMs. You can also perform planned failover if you have an advance notice of a disaster approaching that will require taking the primary servers offline.When you start the planned failover, Veeam Backup & Replication performs the following steps:The failover process triggers the replication job to perform an incremental replication run and copy the un-replicated changes to the replica. The guest OS of the VM is shut down or the VM is powered off.If VMware Tools are installed on the VM, Veeam Backup & Replication tries to shut down the VM guest OS. When creating SureBackup jobs there are often VMs which need additional care before their first successful run/test; like tweaking startup times of OS/applications or changing firewall rules. Also if you’re adding custom test scripts & roles then it might require multiple tries before they work like expected.On the other hand there could be a VM where the SureBackup job discovered an existing problem and you need to debug the system to find the root cause.This is where SureBackup troubleshooting mode (KB1216) comes into play. Instead of restarting the whole SureBackup job with all included VMs, you can just select a single VM and start it via right-click.After clicking start the SureBackup job will only run the selected VM and keeps it running regardless of its state (as opposed to the normal mode where an error will stop/abort the job).So with troubleshooting mode you can save some time when configuring or debugging SureBackup because you don’t need to wait for all VMs inside your

As @eprieto did already post an excellent 3-part series of new v11 tape features. I want to highlight 3 small other features here.Tape Consolidation As Esteban already explained, it is possible to copy tapes in v11. But Veeam put wood behind the arrow. You can use this feature to copy more old-generation-tapes to a few new-generation-tapes. In my example I used LTO2 as source and LTO6 as target.Select tapes you want to consolidate.You can also select tapes by media pool in wizard.Select the target device and target media pool.Choose your options and run the job.After that - in my demo - I copied two LTO2 tapes to one LTO6 tape.  Full Tape Restore With v11 you are able to restore the entire Tape to a Folder.In wizard you choose the folder. I just wanted to remind people of Veeam’s stance towards supporting multiple editions of products with the impending release of v11 and the all-star collection of upgrades we’re about to receive.Veeam have three stages to the end of the lifecycle of a product version:Stage One: End of FixVeeam focus their development on bug fixing on the latest available version only, so if you encounter a bug with v10 once v11 is released, one of two things will happen:If the issue is resolved on v11, you will be advised to upgrade to v11. If the issue isn’t resolved on v11, Veeam’s default stance is not to fix on v10, but instead focus efforts on fixing in v11, they do have a caveat this will be reviewed on a case by case basis but you shouldn’t expect to get a fix on v10.You will still receive technical support on products in this stage provided you have a valid support contract.Stage Two: End of SupportOnce a product has reached end of support even with a valid support contract you will no longer r

Greetings everyone, Veeam keeps releasing, and improving the RESTful API of the different products and solutions. The last two that have been received and incredible amount of new API calls, improvements, and changes are the one for Veeam Backup for AWS v3, and the new Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v5.Veeam tends to release a small what’s new for API where it highlights, briefly, the new stuff. Here I want to show how to query space in VBR Repositories with a few PowerShell snippets. These can be taken to check used space and compare this with restore points in VBR database. It can be used for larger environments to analyze repository space.
