Merge 2 Veeam VBR servers into one.

Merging two VBRs is not a built-in function as everyone else said.However, I head of some migration projects using the VBR REST API. It allows export of jobs and infrastructure (mainly only for VMware though) and you also can import the exported JSON again. The process might require altering some JSON references before importing and I am currently not aware of a ready-to-use solution for migrating/moving between VBRs.However, there are some REST API projects out there to ease the process. Have a look at tdewin/vbreasyrest (github.com) or shapedthought/vcli: vcli is a simple tool to interact with (most) Veeam APIs (github.com).

Veeam Backup runs at 91MB/s, but restoring that VM runs at 3MB/S

I found https://forums.veeam.com/vmware-vsphere-f24/veeam-11-extremely-slow-replication-job-t74251-60.html In summary it appears to be an issue with ESXi7.0.   I haven’t digested everything in the three pages of the the post.  For many it started when they upgraded from ESXi 6.X to ESXi7.  I’ll keep following for hopefully a resolution at some point. I’m new this Veeam and have limited ESXi experience.  Some have mentioned that “hot  add” works.  Is “hot add” method available in Veeam Backup & Replication Community Version?  If yes, can some one point to some resource that explain how to do it. Check your routing forth and back. With dual honed systems I see often issues with network paths, e.g restore running over your main network on a path you would not expect.

Thanks for the feedback @CarySun , but I disagree - here’s my two cents. I see two types of customers:Run a default next-next-finish install with the defaults → Basically these customers would not care if a SQL Express of PostgreSQL is installed but just follow the wizard and use whatever comes per default. Customer had some requirement which needs more than SQL Express → The customer needed to install SQL server manually anyway before, so there is no change for him if he still wants to use SQL, but he has now an option to use PostgreSQL instead for a more convenient (and cheaper) installation.PostgreSQL has performance and sizing advantages over SQL Express, I would not recommend any customer to install SQL express on a new VBR compared to Postgres.If a customer uses SQL Standard already I can see reasons to stick with it.

V12 changed the default DB to Postgres and brings a pgsql installer, so it makes sense not to ship the SQL express installer.  I need to double check later when not on the phone, but I don’t think it’s a bug but expected.

ubuntu 22.04: mlocate

The file indexing functionality is currently depending on mlocate. We call `updatedb -V`, which also works with plocate, but it has a different output (which we parse and fail to identify mlocate).Guest file indexing is only necessary when you want to do advanced file restore from Enterprise Manager, however. You can backup Ubuntu 22.04 VMs and do file restores from them without guest file indexing (thus you won’t get a warning). While guest processing (including guest file indexing) is not supported (and not tested) for Ubuntu 22.04, the general crash consistent backup is supported for Ubuntu 22.04 as a VM guest.

With the HANA Plug-In the backup will be pushed from the active HANA node to the repository via the backint interface.Backint doesn’t know backups of replicas, so you’ll have one backup running from the active node and in case of failover you need to backup the other node again as active one.Check out the Help Center about SAP HANA System Replication Failover.

Hi,at least for the RPOs you’ll need different jobs to run on different schedules.For the applications you could create a single job covering all the VMs and then just specify within the application processing details a different configuration per tag.So example:1 Job:VM selection for the job: RPO 24h + SQL Tags and RPO 24h + Oracle Tags (So all VMs with RPO 24h, SQL and Oracle will be in the job). In the guest processing section you need to specify settings for the tags SQL + Logs 15m and SQL + Logs 30m tags, Oracle + 15m, Oracle + 30m, etc...You can also create more granular top-jobs, like SQL-24h and then just differ on the different log schedules in the guest processing section. IMHO I’d create single jobs for similar VMs, so if you have some SQL, create a single job for only your SQL machines, one for your Oracles - with the tags this is a one time effort and machines will be added automatically.Don’t forget to set your credentials based on the tags, too - unless you’re using the

Automatically remove machines from Job

Hi Ryan, quick thought: Won’t your base images always be created in a specific vSphere folder/resource group/etc.? So any kind of vSphere container which contains the base images and can be used for the backup job? You won’t need tags then and can just add this container.In the backup job don’t forget the box to remove deleted items after some days so that you don’t keep old images for too long.

Backup SAP HANA with backint is very slow

Hi, @StefanZi thank you very much, I set up a test environment, where there is only one IP, everything works well. Back to my production environment, VBR have two IPs, one for the management network [ 192.168.100.100] , and the other for the storage network [10.10.100.100] which don’t have GW . My storage device uses NFS protocol to provide datastore to ESXi hosts, so I used ‘Direct NFS Access’ mode and specifying preferred networks to the storage network. However, I can’t modify the preferred networks, because there are a lot of VMs need to backup. Now, what I can do is to set up a new environment to backup SAP HANA. Do you have any Suggestion? Preferred network will only come into play when Veeam components talk to each other. So even without this setting on the storage network your Direct NFS access will be fine. Basically we ask vCenter for the NFS datastores and we get back something like: 10.10.100.101:/vsphere and we will try to reach this from the proxies, so with the direct c

Do you have multiple IP addresses on the machine that you use as your repository? When the plugin communicates to the repo it will ask for all available IPs and tries them in the order returned. So let’s say you have two IPs on the repo: 192.168.100.100/24 and 10.10.100.100/24 and the traffic should flow over the 10. network.If the returned IP list is [ 192.168.100.100, 10.10.100.100 ] the HANA plugin tries the first IP first. That traffic might flow via the default GW, blocked by some FW and the system does not get any response back, so it will wait for a timeout to happen - that takes a long time.Only when these timeouts happened the plugin will try 10.10.100.100 and will connect to the repo and transfer the files.It looks like your job is exactly this (because theres a long time nothing happening). If this describes your environment, please try to configure preferred networks in Veeam Backup & Replication. So for above example, you p

@mva994 Thanks for this info - can you specify which char was not supported? Did it show up correctly within the GUI (when viewing the password). If there’s an issue with unsupported chars this should be fed back to the Helpcenter to improve our documentation - I am happy to do this with more info.

Please use the following format for the username: HOSTNAME\username   Only the name has never worked for me. Tried this to. No result :( Did you try “.\veeam” for the username? Also check if the user has really Full Permissions on the folder, not only read/write.
