Severe vulnarabiity in Linux library xz

Interesting, I’m updating my Ubuntu Linux systems they won’t update xz. They stay at 5.2.4 and I actually think it is good as it seems the payload came in at 5.6 onwards as it reads here:NVD - CVE-2024-3094 (nist.gov)     That’s cool it’s not :) I just spot-checked a server or 2 and same...thankfully. I also just posted about free online scanner to help out with this.

Calling Veeam Backup Jobs Remotely

Hi @stephmmcgee -Did you reach out to Veeam Support for assistance? I’m not sure if Veeam can work with a 3rd party scheduling tool, but worth a try. At the very least, you can ping the Product Management Team on the Veeam Forum to see what they say.

Honestly, it’s best to let it run out if you can. I’ve never rebooted a VM during a consolidation process, that I recall anyway. But I don’t think a reboot would hurt anything.Your DB is probably pretty large, thus the poor performance. A restart will only temporarily resolve the performance issue, not the consolidation issue...that’ll still need to happen.

Compression and Deduplication

This is somewhat an older post, but I believe it still holds true. A Veeam Product Manager shares in a Forum post, & confirms what Chris stated, about email reports having a tab for compression /dedup ratios (aside from VeeamONE).https://forums.veeam.com/vmware-vsphere-f24/how-to-create-backup-deduplication-ratio-report-with-veeam-t52781.htmlYou just need to enable the Job reports for success if you don't already.

C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\Malware_Detection_Logs Hey Scott, based off the Malware event he posted, his event is for Inline Entropy scans. When that is used, there is no Malware_Detection_Logs folder and subsequent log file. That is only used for File System Analysis scans.   Oh I misread that. Thanks  No worries bud.

Was gonna ask our Community managers to move your post to a more appropriate location, but it appears they already took care of that very thing (moved to the ‘YARA and Script Library’ group) 😊I’m not aware of any such script myself, but maybe someone else can chime in with ideas….

Hi @MJ_CIP2023 -That folder only exists for the File System Analysis scans. You appear to be using the Inline Entropy scan. For that scan, the log file to look at is on the VBR server located at:C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\VeeamDataAnalyzerSvc.logEven so, there still isn't much info given on what /where to look at for the possible threat. There should be an update to Malware Detection soon which is supposed to help.

Latest Version of Veeam Backup and Replication V12.1

Hi @Asad Raza -Are you referring to backend storage system? Veeam doesn't state specifically Scale GPFS is supported, but does say they support Spectrum Virtualize OS v8.2+. See below:https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/system_requirements.html?ver=120#ibm-flashsystem--formerly-spectrum-virtualize--includes-ibm-storwize-and-ibm-svc-As far as VM guest OS goes, Veeam only supports those OSs the hypervisors support, and I don't believe that one is supported by VMware. (see Guest OS support below) https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/platform_support.html?ver=120#vmsPretty sure other hypervisors don't as well (HV, NTX, etc)The only Agent Veeam supports for IBM is AIX:https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agentforaix/userguide/system_requirements.html?ver=40Hope this helps.
