What would you consider a "standard" / recommended retention policy? (see poll)

Hi @Cragdoo my choice about 7D/4W/0M/0Y is only to VM backup related. I love to explain to the customer there are no reasons to have a lot of backup data for VM. I think 14 days for performance tier backup data is a good time to retain the VM if they have immutable repository and a very reactive support team. Different idea is for unstructured data where can be needed more restore point.

nas backup & rollback to point in time

Ciao Alessandro… c’è una logica dietro al fatto che tu non possa scegliere una location differente. In questo caso si usa la logica del versioning.Prendiamo ad esempio un utente che, nella giornata di oggi, abbia effettuato modifiche ad un file sulla share condivisa. Salva il file ma si rende conto di aver fatto degli errori e vuole tornare alla versione di lunedi. A quel punto lo scopo principale è riportare indietro quello specifico file in quello specifico percorso. lo stesso discorso potrebbe essere utile quando la condivisione è stata attaccata da un ransomware.dalla doc: You can roll back changes made to files and folders on the file share to a specific restore point that is older than the current file share state. This option can be useful, for example, when the original file share was attacked by ransomware. In this case you can roll back all the files that were changed by the ransomware to the state before the attack.

Veeam agent for windows shows error can't resolve IP for cifs share, but writes files into the share.

Maybe is a network connection issue. You can check networking stability, DNS name resolution of your NAS and access permissions too. And try to disable IP V6 on your windows clients.

Bad Practice vs Good Practice in a real use case

This post is related to a real use-case at a customer. Some time ago, this customer asked me to perform a backup audit on their infrastructure because they had doubts about the current setup 🤔 So of course I did, I do this often for existing and new customers… If you want to know more about it, just go on reading this topic 😁   …. More in detail :  they were using 2 physical backup-servers with Veeam installed on both of them : no problem so far but, on both of them jobs were created for the same HA cluster - VMs can be migrated from host 1 of location 1 to host 6 of location 2 : so why ??? they created a separate job per VM : what ??? the primary backups jobs are put on the local repository of the backup-server : OK the secondary backup copy job was put on the other backup-server : OK, but they were using SMB : OMG, can it be worse ??? firmware was not installed in 3 years : not real ??? drivers were not even installed on the backup-servers : never seen ??? - a lot of unkn

Exagrid storage

We are starting a project of installation and configuration with Exagrid. Exagrid use a owner space calculation based on source data. For our client was a good solution for use deduplication and replica of its backup data.

OLVM - Yet another hypervisor supported by Veeam

That is definitely interesting and giving users that are abandoning VMware another option now.  Nice to see Veeam adding another hypervisor to the list. Air-gap Backup solutions

Hi Folks, I would re-designate this threat as “safer backup solutions” but not Air Gap.  Air Gap cannot have automatic transfer of data. Only Human manual transfer. So unless you are manually copying the Veeam backups they will never be Air Gap.  Air Gap: “An interface between two systems at which (a) they are not connected physically and (b) any logical connection is not automated (i.e., data is transferred through the interface only manually, under human control).” I asked one of the Comptia security folks at the conference in Chicago about why this was included in the Air Gap definition and the answer was that automation was a very strong weak link in the equation. One of the problems he said was that people can get a false sense of security from terminology, especially when Marketing enters the fray.  I must admit I used to take these official definitions a bit too lightly but with the ransomware threat growing I am being more careful now.    Air Gap Definition can be found here:

Monitor individual jobs in VSPC

Hio @danielecapuano I think the only way to monitoring a single job not running is use a script to add as alarm https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vac/provider_admin/modify_alarm_settings.html?ver=80#running-custom-scriptThis because in VCSP console you can see the Session States dashboard that report workload status and not jobs. In your case workload are correctly backed up from second job. Why first job not start? Probably there is a wrong condition… I think you’re using this trigger for your remote targets (Cloud connect) or for removable USB drives. Correct? Is possible first job not starts for connectivity lack (network or usb)? Not knowing the environment, I am clearly speculating…. Cheers

Hi, in my opinion this week error is due to a bad configuration of the Windows agent.Probably from indexing to backup start that file was removed.Windows\temp folder no need to get backupped. I try with the folder exclusionhttps://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/agents/appendix_d_windows_computer_backup_filters.html?ver=120

More than one backup was found for the same job

Oops sorry about that. Below is the screenshot of the volumes being backed up. I will let you know what Veeam support would find out about this issue.     Hi @spider32 with this image I can suppose the issue is due to the datastores used as object to backup. I mean in this case Only backup a VM if a VMX file exists on the specified datastore. But job processes all the VM's which has VMDK's on the datastore. If you have other backup job using specific VM that can be have vmdk across different datastores you receive a failure. I'm not sure this scenario is in your environment but I 'd check if it's true. My 2 cents

VMCE - Off and running!.....

I think best way to pass exam is place your hands into the dough. I checked twice questions about menu labels and if there isn't experience on various part of Veeam is not possible to reply correctly. As I wrote previously studying and practicing is best way to pass the exam.
