Hi We have a Dell T130 RAID 5 - 4 X 1TB  Drives No hot spare - DELL PERC H330 Adp SCSI Disk.What is best practice to back this up with Veeam ?Regards

Ending the week on a Veeam High

Thought I’d quickly post this to end the week. Our current backup strategy utilises a virtual tape library with GFS with tapes periodically expiring after a set retention period. When tapes are archived to the vault, even though they will expire, the data is still recoverable when the tape is retrieved. Anyway, we needed to recover a folder that our user remembers working on quite a long time ago but was no longer able to find it. A quick look on the Veeam B&R Tape Infrastructure tab to determine which tapes were required, perform retrieval, import the tape, retrieve the data and folder recovered. Could not be simpler. Have a good weekend!

VDRO - vCenter Location or HA Configuration

Hey all, getting ready to setup VDRO in the lab and production, but I have questions on the location of the vCenter server.  Currently, my vCenter is located in the primary site, but wondering if it should be instead setup at the recovery site, or if I should have HA or ELM configured so that there is a second vCenter setup at the recovery site.  ELM doesn’t sound as useful for this situation, but HA may work and there is low enough latency between the primary and recovery sites to support HA.  That said, I was hoping to the put the witness at our third site, but latency is higher to that location so that may not work.  Anyhow, I know I need to get my VBR backup server moved to the recovery site (was already on my list) but what’s considered the best practice here?

Adding G-Cloud External Repository

I am attempting Connect to Repository in community edition to my Google Cloud account.  I have my access and secret keys and am able to connect to my bucket but do not see any folders listed when I browse so I am unable to complete adding the repository.  I made sure the folder was created before I created the secret keys and I have tried several attempts with new/different projects within G-cloud.  Any idea why it can see my bucket but not the folder?  I have given the service account within G-cloud owner rights. Thanks for any help or suggestions

Virtual Hardware Version for CDP

Tried looking for this, but does a VM have to have a minimum version for CDP Replication?  Turning up CDP for the first time for two VM’s and getting the below error.  Or am I going about this wrong? 6/27/2022 4:58:31 PM :: VM configuration for the initial sync completed with errors Error: The virtual machine version is not compatible with the version of the host 'esxi02'. Using Backup Repository 1 scale-out repository extent (unable to meet data placement policy)

Hi Community, I have configure my secondary backup location as aws-s3 object storage. previously I used virtual tape backup to aws via aws tape gateway. VBR 11 install failed

Sorry for the repost but my last post doesn’t appear to exist anymore.Trying to install V11 onto a server 2012 R2 but just getting a red crossJMeixner “SQL set up ends with “Process returned exit code: 0x84B30002” Do you have a SQL server installation on this machine already? “There are some SQL installed but I believe this is from the first time I attempted to install VBR as they have the same install date and below is all the apps installed on the first date

Happy Friday everyone! I was having a chat with @regnor yesterday and we were getting a bit sarcastic about the gap between new products and how long it takes for them to have a proper data protection option available (Teams Chat API is a great example of this!). So I thought this might be a bit of Friday Fun.I want you to market data loss, like it’s a good thing! Whoever’s gets the most likes is the funniest and wins being the “answer” to the question (for those sweet sweet community points!) Scenario: You’ve just lost all your company data and you’re about to tell the board, what do you say? Example: “You know last month I was complaining about our tech debt? Enable tape hardware compression or not?

Hi all!I stumbled across an older post from Tom Sightler here: https://forums.veeam.com/post137077.html#p137077The content still holds true and to summarise:If using LTO5 or older (which hopefully no one is doing for new deployments): Disable hardware compression unless your Veeam backups have compression disabled For LTO6 and newer: Keep hardware compression enabled but don’t expect big savings, maybe put 2.6-2.7 TB on a 2.5 TB media.The reason it makes sense to keep it on is the new algorithm recognises already compressed data and passes it through.

get maximum restore performance from azure blob storage to azure vm

I’m testing restore process from azure blob storage to azure vm. Here is my current configuration: VBR11 installed from market place : Standard_F4s_v2Azure proxy VM :Standard_F4s_v2Azure blob storage where backup of vm sits: PremiumI restore vm to another Standard_F4s_v2 and maximum speed what I get is… 150MB/s Am I missing some configuration or is it an azure limitation?

What am I missing here?

I have scheduled a year end backup and it’s not working as expected.  What I have done is grabbed all of my VMs and set them to backup at 10PM on the last Friday of the month of December.  See screen grab.What is happening is that it’s running on odd and random days.  For example, the year end backup started on Sept 4 at 4:51AM.  It’s not chained to any other job.  It’s not scheduled to run at any time other than what is shown in the screen grab, but that’s three months in a row that’s the job has fired off at random times during the month.Anyone seen this before or have any thoughts?PS:  Let me add that both jobs show scheduled to run again on Oct 10 of this year!

Recovery from Veeam Hardened Repository

Hello, everyone! I have been studying and doing some labs to better understand how the immutability on a Linux Repository works. This is my current Veeam Backup & Replication structure:- 1 Backup Job for VMware VMs;- 1 windows agent Backup Job for a physical machine;- 1 Backup Copy job for each of the previous jobs, with the hardened repository as the target. The hardened repository is a Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with a XFS disk. The SSH service is disabled and no gateway is set. The Veeam server was first configured to use a single-use credential.Everything works great! My question is:In a scenario where all the VMs, physical servers and Veeam server are lost, where all I have are the immutable backups, how should I approach the repository?What I did so far was:- Start the SSH service of the hardened repository, open the port 22 in OS firewall;- Get a separate windows machine running and install Veeam B&R in it;When I tried to add the Linux repository to the new Veeam server, it could

Happy Friday everyone! Sorry it’s been a bit quiet from me recently on this front, lets jump back into things with a new fun friday topic: Backup Designs That Sounded Better in Theory? Firstly, what do I mean by this? continue veeam agent chain

Hi everybody, I’ve got a private instance (without support) of a veeam agent backup. Now the thing is that the latest VIB in the chain got deleted and now the backup starts with a VBK… I’ve tried to delete the backup job, created a new one and mapped the backup but still no difference. Also I’ve tried to remove the vbm file, but it still starts with a vbk. Has anyone got an idea how to continue with that chain?

At a custmer side they deployed enterpise manager and connect backup server in it. but in a case format the machine and reinstall it but the problem is backup server popup please manage it like they want or update your lic key. but backup server told please manage the server with enterprise manager  case ----is enterprise manager is not availablei want to remove my machine with enterpise manager .

A data integrity checksum error occurred. Data in the file stream is corrupt. - Synology NAS, REFS, RDM

Had a client contact me this morning that is getting corruption errors on their backup copy jobs to the performance tier for their SOBR, but data appears to be making it out to their capacity tier, Wasabi, as far as they know (I didn’t check available restore points on that tier, but for sure the data is not sitting on the performance tier when I look at that filesystem).Background configuration is that they are using in both their primary and secondary datacenters a Synology NAS that is connected to their Windows Repo server as an RDM disk presented via ISCSI to their ESXI hosts, volume is formatted REFS, 64k blocks, the usual.  I realize that NAS’s are less than desirable, and my standard procedure is now to no longer use REFS when using a NAS as the backing array, but this is where we’re at.  I will point out that another copy job, not going to a SOBR but to the same NAS is copying data successfully.  I can’t say for sure off the top of my head if it’s the same volume or if this is

Enabling ping (ICMP) on Windows Server

Frequently we need troubleshoot Veeam Backup Server through the network.However, if Windows Firewall is enabled on SO it doesn’t reply ping and echo requests. At this moment so many people act disabling Windows Firewall and mostly times don’t remember to enable it again.So, if you want to allow ping without disabling Windows Firewall you can just run this simple command on cmd:netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="ICMP Allow incoming V4 echo request" protocol=icmpv4:8,any dir=in action=allow

migrating backups to new object storage bucket

Hello Veeam community!I have been trying to determine best approach for a backup migration from one object storage bucket to another and need some help.  My customer has a large amount of data in the 100’s of TB’s of backups and a bucket copy will take 30 days which is too long.  They also don’t have the space to pull it all back down locally to copy to the new bucket so that option won't work.  I am going to have them setup a new capacity tier in SOBR and start new jobs going to the new bucket.  But the issue is the old backups on the old bucket are left orphaned.  i need to move some but not all of the backups due to retention policy.  I was trying to determine which backup objects are related to which backup jobs but can’t determine backup_id via powershell.  my thinking is this would allow me to “grab” the backups that need to be moved to the new bucket.  Does anyone have a helpful tip on how to get this accomplished?  Thank you!
