Hello community, I would like to share a scenario of switching from Reverse Incremental mode to Forever Forward incremental mode, when changing a repository for Veeam backups. Whenever I am seeing Reverse incremental mode configured, it generally means, that a daily offload of full backups to tapes is needed. However, when using immutability on disk storage, Reverse mode is, generally, not supported. It is not supported on VHR and the option to enable when targeting an Object Storage repository is completely missing. Which will also become the standard in v13. Jobs do not need to be recreated, they will switch automatically to incremental mode. If offloading daily full backups to tape is still a requirement, then another way to achieve it is to use Forever Incremental Mode, meaning without enabling periodic full backups and without configuring GFS points. Then to use regular Tape Media Pool(not GFS, with GFS we can only do weekly/monthly/yearly full restore points) and to enable Virtu
Hi everyone, how are you? I have a customer who has multiple M375 tenants. For example:Main tenant - 200 users Tenant Egge Unit 1 - 50 users Tenant Edge Unit 2 - 50 users We understand the limitations- It's not possible to restore between tenants- It's not possible to distribute licenses between tenants However, we can manage tenants from the same console, as mentioned by @MicoolPaul in the post below. The customer's big question is: If I delete a tenant (this is common in edge units), will I lose all the licenses associated with that tenant? I'm thinking about the possibility: Or can we open a case with Veeam to "unlink" these licenses from the tenant so I can use them in another tenant? Thanks in advance!
When VBR start the job then VBR will create VM snapshot, but the snapshot failed due insufficient free space at source datastore. Anyone know are we can change the esxi snapshot location to other datatore?
We are currently exploring Veeam solutions for our End-User Desktop and Laptop backup requirements and would appreciate your support in understanding the following: Available Licensing Options: What license models are available for Veeam DLO backups? Is it covered under Veeam Backup & Replication Universal License (VUL) or separate? Are there any special licensing bundles for SMB/Enterprise desktop and laptop deployments? Supported Features and Capabilities: What operating systems and endpoint environments are supported (Windows, macOS, etc.)? Does it support scheduled backups, versioning, and self-service restore? Recommended Architecture: What is the typical deployment model for endpoint backups? Does it require a centralized backup server or repository? Can it support hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud)? We are looking for a scalable and secure solution to protect our end-user data, especially with increasing remote workforce needs. You
Hi All, it’s my first post here.I’m evaluating Veeam in my lab. I find backups are at a fast 93MB/s, but restores are slow at 3MB/s.-ESXi 7.0 Update 3 host running on a i7 system with 64GB, SSD and HD storage and a 1G NIC-VBR 12.0.0.1420 running on an i5 system with 16GB, with two 1G NICs, NIC1 connects to the lab network with the ESXi server, NIC2 connects to the main network and NAS storage where the backups are stored-NAS is capable of sustained 112MBs read and write speeds-when I do a backup of any of the VMs, it runs at about 91MB/s-when I do a restore of those VMs, including the ones stored on the SSD, restore speed is 3MB/s-overnight I restored 3 VMs, 2 are under 100GB and finished, the third restore is about 1.6TB and completed only 9% in 7 hours, at that rate it will take 77.7 hours, the backup of that VM took 4 hours-if I use Instant Recovery performance is reasonable, for example with a Windows Server VM, I can copy files from the windows server to a client computer at the
Hello,I have situation were I have to export fully Entra ID backup from Veeam, how to do that? There are hypothetical examples with powershell, but I have to export the full backup for authorities. # Hypothetical example$session = Open-VEXEntraIDSession -BackupId "your-backup-id"Export-VEXEntraObject -Session $session -ObjectType "User" -TargetFolder "C:\Exports"
Dear all!I'm new to Veeam. We are currently in the process of acquiring Veeam licences but the process hasn’t been completed yet. So, for now, I’m not running on an evaluation licence and I do not open a support ticket yet. I’m getting a strange problem when I try to configure a protection group to backup my Active Directory. After going through the wizard, then configuring the "Search for object in this domain" and "Selected objects", I can test my credentials within the wizard. When I click on “Test Now”, I'm getting those strange errors:7/22/2025 9:17:15 AM :: Starting credentials test(X) 7/22/2025 9:17:15 AM :: Building hosts list Error: Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.Object[]'.(X) 7/22/2025 9:17:16 AM :: Error: Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.Object[]'.(X) 7/22/2025 9:17:16 AM :: Error: Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.Object[]'.(X) 7/22/2025 9:17:16 AM :: Job finished with error at 7/22/2025
I am going to be performing an upgrade of Veeam 8.1.1 to 8.1.2. Is there a way to backup VBO config before I do this, or is it not necessary? My plan is to just launch the upgrade and install it over the top of the existing install, reapply the license if needed, and hope that all my backup jobs and settings are still there. Is there anything I’m missing? I see in some instructions that I will need to configure the PostgreSQl and NATS again, so that may take some figuring out. When I click on Upgrade in Veeam it says I am up to date, so that is why I downloaded 8.1.2 to install over the top of existing install.
Guys, i have old veeam server running. I need a detailed backup report which contains - server name\object name, backup start time , data retention, storage(disk\tape), tape number etcVeeam version 9.5, PS version 5.1.1 any script or commands to run this would be helpful. Veeam one reporter not working.
I am experiencing a strange issue with Veeam BR and Proxmox VE.The Proxmox VE backups have been working successfully for the past 6 Months.Recently we added an extra network adapter to the Veeam BR host to provide access to another VLAN.Since the addition of the extra network adapter the Proxmox VE backups have been failing. When I run a test on the Proxmox Worker it fails because of a timeout after 300000 Milliseconds (5 Mins). It is not the specific adapter that is the problem I can remove one of the other adapters and the test and backups work.I have tried to adjust timeouts in the appsettings.json file but no success there. From what I can see in the logs it is trying to connect to a backup appliance endpoint. The endpoint it trying to get to is at 192.168.1.161 but when all four adapters are in play that address is the last one in line and it times out before it gets there.I haven’t raised a support case with Veeam yet, just though I would see if anyone has experienced anything simila
just moved veeam to a new server. All is good and working but backups are successful with warnings…“failed to collect malware metadata from the backup proxy for the disk XXXXXX”Any ideas? ports 2500-3300 are open so not sure the next steps to resolve unless I look at the logs… thanks
I am using instructions from https://www.veeam.com/kb4322, it is not clear what MS licensing I need.I found a page that says I need E5 Microsoft licensing. Do I need one for each user or only the backup account? The instructions i have found are not completely clear on how to configure 365 to configure access to the Teams Export APIs. I am using the most recent version of Veeam for 365, where do I find clear and accurate instructions for configuring 365 to allow Veeam to back up teams?
Hi , we have just installed a new veeam server v 12.0.3 (Veeam Data Platform Essentials) and i have virtualized the old one with v11 enterprise lifetime license.can we upgrade the v11 to v12 , using the license already used for the new one and creating a standby server in case a disaster strike on the new one by restoring the backup config of the new one?the old one has sql server 2012 , new one i saw is postgresif it is not possible can we install the free veeam backup server and when disaster strike , restore the backup from the new on v12 ? with this free veeam server can we balance the many veeam endpoint backup client deployed between the v12 licensed and the free one?we have under maintenance and opened a case number: 07772524 but i get a reply from a technician that my request is out of scope….
We have Active Directory joined Windows machines in our backup. These machines have a single local administrative account which is managed by LAPS. The password of the account is rotated daily. Now one of these machines needs to be set up again from scratch. Until the machine is usable again, and the data has been restored to it, the machine is running as an instant recovery so people can access the data in the meantime.I can’t restore the AD computer object to the same date, because the “new” machine has already been joined to the AD and the restore would conflict with the current object. Now, since the password of the user has been rotated repeatedly since the point where the backup was taken I now have no way to access the password of the admin user at that time. But I need admin privileges to install VMware tools, configure the network, rename the machine and rejoin it to the AD.Has anyone by chance been in a similar position already and has found a solution for this? Manipulation p

Hi allWe have multiple installations of Veeam and some of them have all roles on the same server (Backup, Proxy, Mount and so on), some roles are distributed on others servers. Some installations have PostgreSQL and some have MSSQL. Has anyone a idea how to get the installed roles on a server (registry, folders) so we can choose which service to monitor on which server. Additionally is there an overview of which service belong to which role? Thanks,Dario

Hello, when making a backup copy the following error comes up: Failed to perform post-processing: Agent invoke failed with non retryable error. Failed to delete 'vm-1042.281cD2024-08-02T222720_EFBF.vbk' per retention policy However the backup does not exist in our cloud storage. The backups from the 7 day retention are present but differently named. Anybody know a solution?

I need to add an additional 35 licenses to Veeam for 365 and I have acquired the .lic file. The Update button in the Veeam License Information window does not allow me to add licenses, nor does it detect additional licenses. I was going to try just clicking the Install button and browsing to the file, but I am concerned it may overwrite the existing license file and not just add licenses to it. Can anyone confirm this is the correct method? Or should I be adding these licenses with another method? The email with my license file did not have instructions, only a link for support if I need assistance.
