About 2 years ago I decided to try out Nutanix and learn a little about how it worked along with Veeam. Like most people this started with a Google search and several blog posts of others who have deployed Nutanix CE in their home labs, mostly nesting inside their VMware environments to save on necessary hardware. So, why not. I downloaded CE, carved out a VM on my VMware host, went through the steps and before long I had a single node cluster running. I setup a couple small VMs on it, added to my Veeam server, setup backups and backup copy jobs, and was off and running. Over time I left it running and didn’t really think much about it. Occasionally, someone would ask about Veeam capabilities with Nutanix and Cloud Connect, or something else, and I could show them, or test out what they wanted to try, but otherwise just left it running. Not too long ago, Nutanix released CE 2.0, however I waited, no rush to change what was working. Then there was the IT crash heard around the world .
Simple one this, where is the feature comparison showing VDP ESSENTIALS, against the foundation, advanced, and premium? What features am I getting in essentials vs those enterprise grade versions basically? It matters because I’m watching the whats new webinar and there is a feature comparison going on but no mention of essentials? Thanks in advance!
Hello,I will implement Veeam Data Cloud for back up our M365 services such as exchange, onedrive, sharepoint and ms.team and the daily operational will be handled by our backup administrator.I have concern when we backup exchange mailbox, the backup administrator can ‘peek’ all the contents of the mailbox for all users. So can we have separate administrator for daily backup and prevent this user to ‘peek the inbox and in same time assign special user who can restore the mailbox? It’s no problem for this special user can peek’ the mailbox, the special user maybe can our CTO.
Hi All, Just asking. If have any official/unofficial workbook for installation and configuration of Veeam Backup and Recovery that I can refer and provided to customer as part of assessment before the Veeam deployment start? Please advise
Back at the end of July I was able to finally get my Object First OOTBI box taken to one of our datacenters to have it racked, cabled and configured for use. I am doing a blog series on this and here is the first one.https://just-virtualization.tech/2024/08/13/object-first-ootbi-installation-configuration/ Object First (OOTBI) – Installation & Configuration It has been a couple of weeks now since I visited our datacenter and was able to get my Object First (OOTBI) appliance racked, cabled and configured. It was a long debate on whether I would bring the device up in my home office and risk a large power bill or take it to one of the datacenters locally for the company ThinkOn that I work for. The choice was clear due to the appliance being a SuperMicro box and probably wanting some good power – DC it is!On July 25th I packed up OOTBI and took him to our Cambridge DC.OOTBI packed up heading to the DatacenterOnce I arrived and got the box transported to the racks, the installation
Hello Team,I am trying to setup woker for Proxmox VE. I got follwoing error during testing phase.“Failed to connect to the worker core service. Failed to connect to the backup appliance.”I got some log files, but I am not sure which one I should refer to.Also, it might be “port” issue? I have opened necessary ports for Veaam communications. Thank you so much for your help!
Hi everyone, I’m trying to resize the Veeam console, but the smallest size that I have still big, I can’t get is smaller than the screenshot bellow.Does anyone knows how to reduce even more the console big?Thank YOU
I’m finding it very diffcult to find a configuration guide to setup an SOBR that offloads to AWS S3 Glacier archive tier. I understand the concepts but have no experience with AWS. Does anyone know of any guides that get down to the nuts and bolts of setting up the AWS infrastrcture? As I said, I’m new to AWS so need basics like how to apply permissions to resources (i.e. buckets) for users/groups. I’m looking for something on that level.
Starting with Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3, it is possible to exclude specific events from being sent to the Syslog server. This can be done manually per event, or you can import an XML file with the events to be filtered.Handling this task and finding the necessary information can be time-consuming. Executing this task manually is “boring” and error-prone, so I created a simple PowerShell script to make the process easier by generating an XML file based on your chosen filters. Whether filtering by event IDs, categories, or specific filter types like Info, Warning, or Error, this script makes this task more fun.🕺🏿💃🏽For more details and examples of usage, check out the README in my GitHub repository.Happy filtering - It’s the most wonderful time of the year to write scripts 😉🎶Steve💚

Good day, I know this topic was mentioned, well actually a popular one to say the least. I was introduced to using the Port Finder tool in this forum, a very sweet interface, but it is a bit cumbersome to use. I just need someone to simply provide the standard port numbers to enable in windows firewall for Veeam B&R 12. I clearly get the application group, but source and target service? please explainI just need port numbers to just enable quickly For:Backup Jobs and/or replication jobs communications between Hyper V Server comprising windows and linux vms Backup Proxy communication. That is all. I dont want to keep my windows firewall domain profile off indefinitely lol. Does it mean that no one knows the actual port numbers directly.
Resilient Data Protection using Scality ARTESCA and Veeam Backup & Replication Welcome to the 2nd and final blog co-authored with Pierre Gueant, Director of Solution Partners at Scality. In this blog we will discuss how Scality’s ARTESCA product can provide you the confidence that your backup data is protected and available when you need it.The object storage journey for Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR) really took off when VBR v9.5.4 was released in early 2019. It was in VBR v9.5.4 that we saw the addition of the Capacity Tier to the already proven Scale-out Backup Repository (SOBR) which was introduced in version 9.0 towards the end of 2015. What is a SOBR?The SOBR revolutionised the use of file based backup repositories. A SOBR aggregates multiple repositories, called extents, into a single logical repository. It is the ability to add extents that enables the SOBR to grow and expand to meet your backup workload demands.A SOBR typically consists of two tiers. The Perfo
hello, thanks, i am running out of space on a linux server that i use for backup copy jobs.i am not sure the ways to free space without creating a nightmare…by way of example, this is the setting for a backup copy jobwhat would happen if i changed the retention policy from 30 days to 7 days?not sure i really need 30 days, as this is in addition to the main backup policyi would assume that veeam will not delete the older .vib files from day 8 to 30, correct?so i think i need to manually prune those older .vib files?but not wanting to affect veeam ability about keeping certain full backups longer for archival purposes.please, any advise at all about that setup or if any additional information is needed?thanks, david
Hello, Trying to use Veeam to do ProxMox backups, I was able to add 1 host from the cluster, and deploy a worker to it, but when I go to add the second host, it tells me that its already added, but its not in the list and VMs from the other hosts are not showing up.I tried via IP or DNS name and results are same, it says:“Failed to register cluster. The Proxmox VE node 192.168.1.226 has already been added to the backup infrastructure”but its not there, see below (the 192.168.1.225 is the first host in cluster and there are 2 more .226, .227. What am I doing wrong here ? The documentation said to add each host individually from the cluster: Important If you want to add a Proxmox VE cluster to the backup infrastructure, consider the following: Each node of the cluster must be added to the backup infrastructure separately. The name of the cluster must not be changed in the Proxmox VE administration portal after you add it to the backup infrastructure.
I have backups that are SOBR-Tiered out to Azure blobs. I have an audit coming up and need to show that we have this data stored- Basically, I need to build a list of backups that are physically stored in Azure. I asked Veeam support about this, and they said that you can’t just list Azure backups because of how blobs work. I can’t be the only person who needs to do this, so I figure there must be a way. Whether or not Veeam is part of that mechanism is apparently debatable. As a side note, I have a recent install of Enterprise Manager. The backups I need to list are back to 2020 or before, and we didn’t have it at the time, but any historical logs it takes from VB&R would probably have been imported when EM was installed. How do others in the community answer inquiries of this sort?
First of all, i love the new integration and feature 💚 Just give you some examples - and maybe a found bug/issue: Activated within the Web UI Configuration:I stated with new Data Collection after activating this feature / the Advanced mode. Lets start some queries:Q: Show me a list of all my protected VMs Wow, very nice! I switched to german - just for a test (Q: Please give me a clearer overview)Q: Bitte gebe mir diese Übersicht übersichtlicher aus Hell, yes! 🔥OK, but i want to view the whole content, so my next input was, again in german (Thank you, please show me all the lines). Q: Danke, zeige mir bitte alle Zeilen. And this is very strange - i don’t have (nor had) the red marked VMs in this Environment. I will wait for more feedback from you, perhaps it’s a bug - can also open a support call on this (but give R&D/Support some time for maybe some other issues).I’ve started some other queries from scratch, they ended up with similar results (also VMs which are not availabe in
Dear Community,Good morning.I hope this message finds you well. I have noticed that in Veeam ONE, there does not appear to be a specific reporting feature related to Transaction Log reports. If such a feature exists, I would greatly appreciate it if you could guide me on where to find it.Thank you in advance for your assistance and guidance.
Hello everyone,I have been looking for some options that are activated only when the "CTRL" key is used simultaneously. In a quick search on the user guide for VMware, I found 22 occurrences, but not all occurrences activate specific functions. Does anyone have a list of all the additional functions activated when using the "CTRL" key? The rebalance option is available only when the “CTRL” key is used with right click pressed at the same time.

I have Veeam with a requirement to setup a backup policy with the following structure….weekly backup14 days local copy (storeonce)14 days remote copy (storeonce)move to Scality for 6 months1 monthly is kept in scality for 5 yearsI’m looking to create SOBR for local copy and a SOBR for the remote copy which also contains scalityhowever it seems challenging how I meet these retentions for each tier.comments welcome on best options to configure this.thanks
Hi, I recently upgraded to the most recent version of B&R community edition and I think as part of that process, one of my Windows PC did not failed to update its Agent properly. Now, that Windows PC always shows up as offline and when I try to reinstall/update Agent from the console, I get “6/22/2024 5:19:43 PM Warning Failed to connect to MyPC Details: Failed to call RPC function 'PckgFind': Unknown property.” I know that PC is on and has network connection. Is there a way for me to manually reinstall the Agent on that PC? If so, where can I find the installation files? Thank you!
Hello everyone,Two weeks ago, I finished delivering the course Veeam Backup & Replication v12.1: Configure, Manage and Recover.During the explanation of the need to back up the configuration database, using the configuration database's own backup mechanism through the main menu, a student said that he only backs up the Veeam Backup Server using the VMware backup job (Image backup) and in fact I have heard this same statement from other students, so I explained to the student that the backup server must be backed up using the configuration database backup, which is available in the main menu.Because of this type of behavior that I have encountered in the classes that I teach, I reinforce here that the backup server backup must be followed according to https://www.veeam.com/kb2645Pya closer attention here:The KB2645 is very easy to follow, it mention how to enable the encryption for the configuration database backup and also, to get one additionl layer of protection using a File COpy
