VMCE Practice Question - 23 April 2024

Here we are again...another VMCE Practice Question. Are you ready??Not sure if you saw one of my comments on a previous question from last week, but if you’re following along, you know I shared in a comment I will begin posting the VMCE Practice Questions on definitive days of the week → on Tuesdays and Thursdays; then I’ll provide the answers and links to both questions on Friday. That way you all can anticipate when the follow-ups/answers will be to check your responses.Questions will begin to get a bit more difficult. SysAdminDay Story: Humbling Experience

I really struggled with sharing this story because it’s quite embarrassing. But, if it helps 1 person, it’s worth it. And, not all ‘save the day’ stories are about us being flawless Systems Admins/Architects...we are human, but rather how well we’ve setup and configured our recovery processes. AI - Benefit or Security Threat?

Good day Community -There’s been a lot of talk around AI, especially the past several months. I’m not talking about any specific area really...just in general. AI is really gaining steam in my opinion! Even our beloved Veeam has found a useful way to implement it within its product. 🙂 But, is everyone looking to implement/integrate AI in everything really a good thing? I guess the best answer is, “it depends”. 😉As one who works in the education space, this is a topic I really am trying to wrap my brain around to learn...How best to implement pieces of AI which benefits the student population, as well as help our District be as “cutting edge” and “relevant” in the education space as possible; Where and how to put boundaries in place to prevent its abuse.  ← and this here is really a huge and broad area. Hello Community -First, let me say I apolgoize we didn’t get a recording of yesterday’s webinar. We thought we did so, but turns out we didn’t. #WorldBackupDay When Veeam Storage Snapshort Orchestration Saved the Day!

Cue Superman standing on a hill with hands on his hips, wind blowing through his hair, and cape flapping in the wind 🦸🏻😂  Ok, not really...hahaThe truth is, “sysadmin superhero-like” tactics would not have been needed if I had been a bit more meticulous in my storage configuration tasks.Veeam FlexibilityOne of the many benefits of using Veeam Backup & Replication is its flexibiltiy in how you deploy it. Personally, I use the “Advanced” deployment method, creating separate servers for Veeam and my ancillary components, Proxy and Repository. But, to save on hardware and software (OS) costs, Veeam allows you to combine the Proxy and Repository roles. I use physical hardware for these components. As such, I wanted to push my physical compute (CPU/Memory) and network (10Gb nics) resources to the limit on my hardware, so I combined them on 1 server. At the time, I also chose to use the fastest backup method → DirectSAN. One drawback of using the DirectSAN transport mode with Windows (

VMware KBs Issues Resolved

I’m sure you all are aware VMware had an issue with v8U2 to where if you hot resized your VM virtual disks, CBT would lose change data, causing Veeam (or, any solution) backup issues. You can reference a couple VMware KBs here and here. There was a great deal of “buzz” on this in a post on the Veeam Forums.VMware released a patch to vCenter Server a couple weeks ago (v8U2b), but keep in mind...updating vCenter doesn’t resolve the issue, as the problem is with ESXi Hosts...not vCenter. I hadn’t heard/seen anything up until recently that VMware also released a patch for ESXi which now should resolve the CBT issue. Personally, I’m going to wait before I update my vSphere Hosts. I always give patch updates a couple mos or so to make sure there are no further bugs in them...unless of course the update is a critical security one.Anyway...I just wanted to make folks aware, if you weren’t already. If this was already posted somewhere..I didn’t see it, so apologies if so.
